Campgrounds near Rockport, Texas
Rockport sits on Aransas Bay along the Texas Coastal Bend, roughly 30 miles north of Corpus Christi. The town is a working fishing port and a long-established RV destination, with calm bay water, oak-shaded shoreline, and easy access to the Intracoastal Waterway. RV renters typically choose between full-hookup commercial parks in town and the state-park camping at Goose Island, about ten miles north on Park Road 13.
Close-in private options include Taylor Oaks RV Park, Fishers of Men RV Park, Angler's RV Retreat, Quiet One RV Park-Rockport, and Rockport RV Resort. These parks serve a mix of short-stay vacationers, anglers, and winter Texans who stage longer stays during the cooler months. Goose Island State Park provides bayfront and wooded-area sites managed by Texas Parks and Wildlife, and the nearby Aransas National Wildlife Refuge anchors the region as one of the top birding destinations in North America. Most attractions, restaurants, and boat ramps are within a short drive of any Rockport-area campground.
Things to do near Rockport
Fishing is the central activity. Anglers target redfish, speckled trout, and flounder from piers, kayaks, and charter boats on Aransas and Copano bays. Goose Island State Park has fish-cleaning stations and shoreline access, and the park is home to the Big Tree, one of the oldest live oak trees in the United States. Birding is the other anchor: the Aransas National Wildlife Refuge protects roughly 115,000 acres on the Blackjack Peninsula and hosts the only wild migrating flock of whooping cranes from late fall through early spring. The refuge has a 16-mile auto tour loop, walking trails, and an observation tower. In town, Rockport Beach offers calm swimming water, and the Texas Maritime Museum and Fulton Mansion State Historic Site work well for rainy days.

Rockport has a humid subtropical climate with hot, sticky summers and short, mild winters. Summer days routinely run into the low 90s with high humidity and afternoon Gulf breezes, and sea-breeze thunderstorms are common. This is family-vacation season, and bayfront sites at Goose Island State Park book out well in advance for Memorial Day through Labor Day.
Fall is the wettest stretch, with September averaging the heaviest rainfall of the year and the peak risk window for tropical systems along the Texas coast. Many travelers watch the National Hurricane Center closely from August into October. Winter is the snowbird and birding season. From November through March, the migrating flock of whooping cranes winters at the Aransas National Wildlife Refuge, and boat tours run out of Rockport and Fulton. Spring brings warm, pleasant weather and peak songbird migration through April and May, with March one of the busiest tourism months in town.

How to book a campsite near Rockport
Goose Island State Park uses the Texas State Parks reservation system operated by Texas Parks and Wildlife. Reservable electric and water sites open up to five months in advance through the Texas State Parks portal or by phone with the customer service center, and reservations are strongly recommended because the park frequently reaches capacity. A daily entrance fee applies on top of the campsite, or visitors can use an annual Texas State Parks Pass. Full-hookup sites at Goose Island are not reservable in advance and require a call to the park for availability. Private parks around Rockport, including Taylor Oaks RV Park, Fishers of Men RV Park, Angler's RV Retreat, Quiet One RV Park-Rockport, and Rockport RV Resort, book directly with each park or through third-party platforms. For winter Texan stays from January through March, lock in a site several months ahead.
What to expect on arrival in Rockport
Roads into Rockport are flat and RV-friendly along Highway 35. At Goose Island State Park, drivers should expect narrow interior roads and some low-hanging oak branches in the wooded area, so slow and cautious driving is needed even in a rental rig. Park headquarters handles check-in, and after-hours arrivals use the self-pay station at the information board. Late arrivals must report to park headquarters by the next morning to complete check-in. Swimming inside Goose Island is not recommended due to concrete bulkheads, oyster shells, and marsh grass along the shoreline; the public swimming beach is at Rockport Beach, a short drive south. Expect mosquitoes near the marshes, steady coastal wind, and full sun on bayfront sites. Cell service is generally reliable in town and at most private parks.

You can save by booking weekday nights, traveling in the shoulder seasons (March or November), or filtering for weekly discounts hosts offer right on the listing. rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Rockport,TexasDo I need a special license to rent an RV in Rockport?
You're in luck: a standard driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Rockport, TX. Texas does not require a commercial driver's license (CDL) or any special RV endorsement for motorhomes or travel trailers rented through RVezy, no matter the size. You'll just need to be 25 or older with a valid license, and RVezy will verify your ID right inside the platform during booking. Visiting from outside the US? Bring your home country license along with an International Driving Permit (IDP) and you're set. Most first-time renters are surprised at how simple the paperwork is, which means you can spend less time on logistics and more time planning your Aransas Bay sunset.
txdmv.gov/motoristsWhat's included for protection and peace of mind on my Rockport RV rental?
Every RVezy booking in Rockport comes with a renter protection plan and 24/7 roadside assistance built right in, so you can hit Highway 35 with confidence. You choose your coverage level during checkout (not the host), picking the plan that matches your comfort level, and it provides meaningful financial protection if something unexpected happens, from a cracked windshield on the causeway to a minor parking-lot ding in downtown Rockport. Pair that with around-the-clock roadside support and you've got a safety net the entire time you're exploring the Coastal Bend on your Rockport RV trip.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat if I need to cancel my Rockport RV trip?
Booking is low-risk: RVezy (not the individual host) sets the cancellation policy, and it includes a money-back grace period right after you book so you can lock in dates with confidence. Refund eligibility after that depends on how far out your trip is and the plan tied to your booking, which matters along the Texas Gulf Coast where hurricane season runs June through November. If a tropical storm threatens Rockport, RVezy's support team will work with you on options. Pro tip: book early to secure prime Goose Island weekends, knowing you have built-in flexibility if your plans shift.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a Rockport RV rental?
Absolutely, a pet-friendly RV rental in Rockport is easy to find. Just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy and you'll see plenty of hosts who welcome dogs, often with a small cleaning fee disclosed upfront. Rockport is a dream for dog owners: Rockport Beach has a designated pet area with restrooms and rinse stations, and the leashed trails at Goose Island State Park wind under massive live oaks where pups love the shade. The Tule Creek Hike and Bike Trail is another local favorite for morning walks. Pro tip: message the host before booking to confirm pet rules, and ask about a nearby fenced yard if you're staying at a host's RV pad before heading out.
tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/goose-island/park_information/petsCan the RV be delivered to my campsite in Rockport?
Yes, RV delivery in Rockport is one of the easiest ways to start your trip stress-free. Many RVezy hosts offer delivery and setup directly to Goose Island State Park, Ancient Oaks RV Park, Rockport RV Resort, or even a private home rental, then return at the end of your stay to pack it up. Just use the Delivery filter when searching, and you'll see which hosts deliver and what their per-mile fee looks like. This is a game-changer if it's your first time renting an RV, because you skip the towing and parking learning curve. Pro tip: delivery within 15 miles of Rockport is usually the most affordable, and hosts will still walk you through every system once it's set up on site.
tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/goose-islandHow far can I travel on a Rockport RV trip?
You can roam plenty: many Rockport hosts offer generous daily mileage, and some list an RV rental with unlimited mileage, perfect for an RV road trip from Rockport along the Gulf Coast. Each listing on RVezy clearly displays the included miles per day and the per-mile fee for anything extra, so there are no surprises. Popular runs include Corpus Christi (35 miles south), Padre Island National Seashore (about 75 miles), San Antonio (160 miles), Big Bend National Park (around 530 miles), and Galveston (220 miles up the coast). Pro tip: if you're planning a longer loop, filter for unlimited-mileage listings or message hosts to negotiate a flat weekly mileage package.
nps.gov/pais/index.htmWhere are the best campgrounds near Rockport for an RV?
You're spoiled for choice when it comes to RV camping in Rockport. Goose Island State Park (10 miles northeast) offers 101 water-and-electric sites split between bayfront spots and shaded oak grove loops, plus a 1,620-foot fishing pier. Ancient Oaks RV Park is a full-hookup resort with a heated pool, hot tub, and pet park. Rockport RV Resort has been hosting travelers for over 40 years right in town. Quilly's Big Fish RV Park sits just off State Highway 35 with a stocked fishing pond, and Fishers of Men RV Park offers a quieter, off-the-beaten-path vibe. Pro tip: book Goose Island 4 to 5 months ahead for winter and spring weekends, which fill up fast with Winter Texans and birders.
tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/goose-island/fees-facilities/campsitesWhen is the best time to visit Rockport in an RV?
Rockport's mild coastal climate makes it a year-round RV destination, with the sweet spot running October through April. Winter highs typically sit in the 65 to 72 degree range and the January average low is around 45, which is why Winter Texans flock here from November through March. Spring (March through May) brings wildflowers, calm bays, and the famous whooping crane migration at Aransas National Wildlife Refuge. Summer is hot and humid, with July highs averaging 92 degrees, but it's also prime beach and fishing season. The wettest months are August through October, which overlaps with peak Atlantic hurricane season. Pro tip: book a February trip for the best mix of mild weather, light crowds, and incredible birding.
weather.gov/crp/I've never rented an RV before. Will I be okay in Rockport?
You've got this, and Rockport is honestly one of the friendliest places for a first time renting an RV. Roads are flat, traffic is light outside summer weekends, and State Highway 35 is a straightforward drive in from Houston or San Antonio. Every RVezy host gives you a full walkthrough at pickup covering hookups, slide-outs, the generator, holding tanks, and the propane system, so you leave knowing exactly how everything works. You can also message your host anytime during the trip with questions, and 24/7 roadside assistance is just a call away. Pro tip: start your first night at Goose Island State Park's pull-through bayfront sites, they're easy to maneuver into and you'll be parked beside the water within minutes.
tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/goose-island/park_informationWhat happens if something goes wrong on the road in Rockport?
You're never alone out there. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection package, so a flat tire on Fulton Beach Road, a dead battery at Goose Island, or a tow on Highway 35 is just one phone call away. RVezy's support team is also available before, during, and after every trip to help troubleshoot or coordinate with your host. Cell coverage in and around Rockport is strong, and Corpus Christi (35 miles south) has the closest large RV service centers if anything mechanical needs attention. Pro tip: snap a quick photo of the roadside assistance number and your host's contact info and keep it on your phone's lock screen before you pull out.
dps.texas.gov/section/highway-patrolCan I take my Rockport RV rental to Mexico or out of state?
Interstate travel is wide open, but international travel is not. You can absolutely take your motorhome rental from Rockport into Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Arkansas, or anywhere across the continental US, just confirm distance limits with your host before booking. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on any RVezy rental because the insurance and protection package don't extend across the border. Popular interstate routes from Rockport include the Gulf Coast drive to New Orleans (about 540 miles), the Hill Country loop through Fredericksburg, and the long haul west to Big Bend National Park. Pro tip: if you're planning a multi-state RV road trip from Rockport, filter for unlimited-mileage listings to keep your budget predictable.
cbp.gov/travel/us-citizens/know-before-you-goWhat should I budget for fuel on a Rockport RV trip?
Fuel in the Rockport area is typically among the cheapest in the country, which is great news for your trip budget. Texas gas prices usually run 20 to 40 cents below the national average. Plan on roughly 8 to 10 miles per gallon for a Class A motorhome, 10 to 14 mpg for a Class C, 16 to 20 mpg for a campervan, and your tow vehicle's normal mileage minus about 30 percent if you're pulling a travel trailer. The Buc-ee's in Aransas Pass (about 15 miles south) has the lowest prices and easy RV access. Pro tip: top off in Rockport or Aransas Pass before heading to Goose Island or Padre Island, as prices climb closer to the beach resorts.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Rockport?
Book early and your Rockport plans get a lot easier. Goose Island State Park is one of the most popular state parks on the Texas coast, and Texas Parks and Wildlife opens reservations up to five months in advance through their official reservation system, so set a reminder for the 5-month mark, especially for October through April weekends. Private parks like Ancient Oaks RV Park and Rockport RV Resort book directly on their websites or through Campspot, and 2 to 3 months ahead is usually enough except around Memorial Day, July 4th, and spring break. Pro tip: midweek arrivals (Sunday through Wednesday) at Goose Island are dramatically easier to score and the park is noticeably quieter.
tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/goose-island/fees-facilities/campsitesWhat are local driving conditions like around Rockport?
Driving an RV in Rockport is refreshingly low-stress. State Highway 35 is the main artery and it's flat, well-maintained, and straightforward, with wide shoulders that are easy for larger motorhomes. Watch for the Lyndon B. Johnson Causeway between Aransas Pass and Port Aransas if you're heading to the beach, it has crosswinds that can push high-profile RVs, so reduce speed in gusty weather. Coastal storms can roll in fast during summer afternoons, so check the National Weather Service Corpus Christi forecast each morning. Downtown Rockport has a few narrow streets near the harbor, so park larger rigs at the Festival Grounds or Memorial Park and walk. Pro tip: aim to drive between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. for the calmest winds along the coast.
weather.gov/crp/What amenities can I expect at Rockport campgrounds?
Rockport campgrounds are well-equipped for a comfortable stay. Most private parks like Ancient Oaks, Rockport RV Resort, and Coastal Cowboy offer full hookups (30/50 amp electric, water, and sewer), free Wi-Fi, laundry, pools, and on-site dump stations. Goose Island State Park provides water and electric at every site, hot showers in each loop, a fish cleaning station, and a centrally located dump station near the park exit. Potable water fills are available at park headquarters. Most Rockport-area parks are pull-through friendly and can accommodate RVs up to 40 feet, with many sites handling big rigs. Pro tip: fill your fresh water tank before arriving at Goose Island, the park asks guests to conserve water and only use it for drinking and washing.
tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/goose-island/fees-facilitiesWhat's inside a typical Rockport RV rental?
You'll feel right at home. A typical RV rental in Rockport, TX comes fully equipped with a queen or king bed, additional convertible sleeping for 2 to 6 more people, a full kitchen (fridge, stove, microwave, sink), a bathroom with toilet and shower, air conditioning (essential on the Gulf Coast), heat, and seatbelts for everyone traveling. Most listings include a TV, and many offer Wi-Fi boosters, onboard generators, outdoor speakers, and awnings for those breezy Aransas Bay afternoons. Each RVezy listing spells out exactly what's included, from linens and cookware to outdoor chairs and beach gear. Pro tip: filter by sleeps count and message the host to confirm the AC is rated for Texas summer heat if you're booking June through September.
energy.gov/energysaver/air-conditioningWhat add-ons and pickup options should I know about?
Rockport hosts make customizing your trip simple. Popular add-ons include linens and bedding packages ($25 to $75), kitchen kits ($25 to $50), outdoor chairs and grills, bike racks, kayak racks, generators, and Starlink internet for remote beach camping. Pickup is typically at the host's home base in Rockport, Fulton, or Aransas Pass, and most offer delivery to Goose Island State Park or your chosen RV resort for a flat fee plus per-mile charge beyond a set radius. Mileage policies vary by listing (100 to 200 free miles per day is common, with some offering unlimited), so review the listing details before booking. Pro tip: bundling delivery, setup, linens, and a generator into one booking saves time and often unlocks a small host discount.
rockportfulton.com/How does payment and the security deposit work?
Payment is straightforward and secure on RVezy. You pay through the platform with a credit or debit card (never directly to the host), which keeps your booking, protection plan, and support all in one place. A refundable security deposit is held separately from your booking payment before pickup, typically between $500 and $1,500 depending on the RV class, and it's released back to you after the trip once the host confirms the RV was returned in the same condition. To avoid any issues, take date-stamped photos and a quick walkaround video at pickup and dropoff, return with the fuel and propane levels noted in the agreement, and empty the holding tanks at the campground dump station or Goose Island's onsite dump before returning. Pro tip: keep all communication inside the RVezy app so any questions are documented and easy to reference.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksWhat hurricane and summer heat tips should I know for a Rockport RV trip?
A little planning keeps your Gulf Coast trip smooth. Hurricane season runs June 1 through November 30, with peak risk in August and September. Always check the National Hurricane Center forecast before and during your trip, and contact RVezy support if a named-storm evacuation affects your dates. For summer heat, July highs in Rockport average around 92 degrees with high humidity, so park your RV in shade when possible (Goose Island's oak grove loops are gold), run the AC overnight, hydrate constantly, and plan beach time for before 10 a.m. or after 5 p.m. Pro tip: shoulder seasons (March to April and October to November) deliver 70-degree days, fewer mosquitoes, and dramatically lower campground prices, making them the smart-money move for an Aransas Bay RV trip.
