Campgrounds and RV parks near Erda, UT

Antelope Island is the region's marquee outdoor destination. The island is home to a herd of 600 American bison, and its range lands and shorelines also support antelope, deer, coyotes, shorebirds, and waterfowl. Trails from White Rock Bay - Antelope Island State Park lead toward Buffalo Point and along the western shoreline, and the historic Fielding Garr Ranch sits at the southeast end of the island. On the south shore, Great Salt Lake State Park features a 300 slip marina along with a boat ramp, and is popular for swimming, and picnicking. Sailing, paddleboarding, and sunset viewing are the main draws. To the southeast near Lehi, Utah State Parks and Recreation and the Utah Hang Gliding and Paragliding Association partner to preserve Flight Park State Recreation Area, an excellent site for teaching and gathering experience for flyers of all levels. It is known worldwide as one of the best training sites for both paragliding and hang gliding. Salt Lake City museums, the Utah Motorsports Campus, and the Bonneville Salt Flats round out day-trip options.

Peak camping season on the Great Salt Lake runs from late spring through early fall. Sites fill up fast on weekends and during the busy summer months, so if you're hoping to snag any open spots, you should arrive to the park early. Summer days are hot and dry, with strong sun and little shade at lakeside campgrounds. Biting insects are the main seasonal nuisance: biting gnats (no-see-ums) are typically bad from April to June. Fine mesh head nets are helpful. Insect repellent is ineffective. Spring is the wettest stretch, with rain and lingering mountain snow. Summers are hot, while winters are cold and bring very snowy conditions. Although precipitation is moderate overall, spring is the wettest season, with moisture spread relatively evenly throughout the year, often arriving as snow in the cooler months. Fall brings cooler nights, fewer bugs, and reliable weather for hiking on Antelope Island. Winter access varies by campground. Bridger Bay is open and reserveable year-round while White Rock is closed December through March. The campground at Great Salt Lake State Park is open year-round and offers RV sites that can accommodate up to a 40-foot RV. Check ahead before arriving with an RV.

Lakeside campgrounds are open, exposed, and often windy. The lack of shade becomes a factor during warmer months, while strong winds can challenge tent campers year-round. Bring shade structures, extra stakes, and plenty of water. Cell service on Antelope Island is unreliable: cell phone service is spotty everywhere on the island, some service can be found on the east side but drops off on the west side, and campers should not count on their cell phone working. White Rock Bay - Antelope Island State Park is primitive. There is no water or electricity. Water is available at Bridger Bay Beach, the Dump Station, and the Visitor Center. Pit toilets only. Flush toilets and showers are located at Bridger Bay Beach, 2 miles away. Great Salt Lake Park offers hookups but only a handful of RV sites. Wildlife including bison roam freely on Antelope Island, so keep distance and secure food.
