Campgrounds and RV parks near Granite, UT

The Wasatch canyons are the main draw. Little Cottonwood and Big Cottonwood Canyons open directly east of Granite, with trailheads, picnic areas, and reservoirs within minutes of the community. The Temple Quarry Nature Trail is a short paved loop that explores the historic granite quarry site, and the adjacent Little Cottonwood Creek Trail follows the canyon floor. South of town, Flight Park State Recreation Area sits at Point of the Mountain, known as one of the premier training sites in the country for both paragliding and hang gliding. Visitors can watch pilots launch from public viewing areas. Over the ridge in the Heber Valley, Wasatch Mountain State Park adds golf, hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding in warm months, then snowmobiling, snowshoeing, and cross-country skiing in winter. Park City is roughly an hour away and offers lift-served biking, Main Street shopping, and access to Deer Valley and Park City Mountain resorts.

The main RV camping window in the surrounding mountains runs from late spring through early fall. Little Deer Creek is a good example: it is a primitive campground where all camping is closed during winter months, and the access road can be rough due to runoff in the spring. Higher-elevation state park roads and primitive sites are typically snow-affected outside the summer season. Spring is the wet season along the Wasatch Front. Precipitation and humidity are highest from March through May and lowest from June through mid-September, with April the wettest month at the Salt Lake City airport. Access roads to remote sites can be soft or washed out early in the season, and hauling trailers into Little Deer Creek is at the traveler's own risk. Summer brings monsoon thunderstorms rising from Mexico and Arizona, along with fire restrictions that the state updates through the season. Fall shoulder weeks in September and October usually offer cooler nights, aspen color in the Wasatch, and fewer crowds at campgrounds and trailheads.

Sites near Granite range from full-hookup urban RV parks to primitive alpine campgrounds. Salt Lake City KOA Holiday offers pull-through and back-in sites with full hookups, Wi-Fi, and typical KOA amenities such as a seasonal pool and dog park. Mountain Shadows RV Park and Motorhome Park and Park City RV Resort follow the same full-service model, with paved sites and utilities aimed at longer stays. State park sites are more rustic. Each Little Deer Creek site has a potable water spigot, picnic table, fire pit, and barbecue grill, but there is no electricity or showers, and one central restroom offers flush toilets. Note that the last 3 miles into Little Deer Creek are extremely rough, and four-wheel drive with high clearance is strongly recommended. At Flight Park, expect open, exposed terrain. Wind dominates the experience, since Point of the Mountain is one of the most consistent wind sites in the western United States.
