Campgrounds and RV parks near West Bountiful, UT

Antelope Island is the marquee outing for families. The island holds a free-ranging herd of roughly 500 to 700 bison along with pronghorn, mule deer, and bighorn sheep, plus long sandy beaches on the Great Salt Lake and a network of hiking, biking, and equestrian trails. The historic Fielding Garr Ranch is open year-round. Closer to town, the paved Jordan River Parkway Trail is easy to access for cycling and sunset walks. Lagoon Amusement Park in Farmington is a major draw for kids staying at Lagoon RV Park and Campground. To the east, the Wasatch canyons offer trout streams, hiking, and cooler summer temperatures, while downtown Salt Lake City sits about 15 minutes south for museums, restaurants, and Temple Square.

Camping around West Bountiful runs strongest from May through October. Valley-floor RV parks like Sun Outdoors Salt Lake City, Lagoon RV Park and Campground, Salt Lake City KOA Holiday, Circle L Motorhome Complex, and Valley View RV Resort generally stay open year-round, though some services scale back in winter. Antelope Island's campgrounds are open all year, while Bountiful Peak Campground up in the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest typically operates only from late June to early September because of snow on Farmington Canyon Road. Spring is the wettest season along the Wasatch Front, with April being the wettest month at the Salt Lake City airport station. Biting gnats, known locally as no-see-ums, emerge on Antelope Island from about mid-April to mid-June, and they are small enough to pass through standard mosquito netting, so a fine-mesh head net is worth packing. Summer brings hot, dry days with frequent 90-degree highs, dry lightning, and wildfire smoke that can drift into the valley. Fall cools quickly and delivers strong color in the canyons before snow returns to the mountains, typically in November.

Elevations near West Bountiful start around 4,250 feet in the Salt Lake Valley and climb past 9,000 feet in the Wasatch, so temperatures, weather, and road conditions can change quickly with elevation. Open valley sites are exposed to significant wind, especially in spring and fall, and RVers should plan for awning security and proper stabilization. Most valley RV parks offer full hookups, paved or concrete pads, and Wi-Fi, but shade and site spacing vary. State park campgrounds on Antelope Island are more basic, with vault toilets at some loops and flush restrooms and showers at Bridger Bay, and Bountiful Peak has vault toilets with no water available. Cell coverage is generally strong in the valley and spotty in the canyons.
