Campgrounds and RV parks near Earlysville, VA

Earlysville sits in Albemarle County just north of Charlottesville, in the rolling Piedmont at the eastern foot of the Blue Ridge. For RV travelers, its main draw is proximity to Shenandoah National Park, whose southern district is roughly a 45-minute drive west via Skyline Drive's Rockfish Gap or Swift Run Gap entrances. Inside the park, Loft Mountain Campground sits near Milepost 79.5 on Big Flat Mountain and is the largest and southernmost of the front-country campgrounds, with 207 sites, flush toilets, potable water, and a dump station about a quarter mile from the campground. Lewis Mountain Campground, further north at Milepost 57.5, is the smallest in the park with 30 wooded sites, flush toilets, showers, and a camp store. Neither park campground offers RV hookups, but both accept trailers and motorhomes within posted length limits. Outside the park, Charlottesville KOA Holiday and Misty Mountain Camp Resort provide full-hookup sites, showers, and family amenities that suit longer RV stays and travelers who want a base for wineries, UVA, and Monticello.

Sites at Loft Mountain Campground are booked through Recreation.gov or by calling 1-877-444-6777, on a rolling six-month window that opens at 10 a.m. Eastern the day the arrival date lands inside that window. A portion of Loft Mountain sites is held for first-come, first-served arrivals and can only be claimed in person at the campground, typically filling by late morning on summer and fall weekends. Group sites H1, H2, and H3 at Loft Mountain accommodate 7 to 20 people and are reservation-only. Lewis Mountain Campground is first-come, first-served only, with self-registration on site and payment through the Recreation.gov mobile app. Charlottesville KOA Holiday and Misty Mountain Camp Resort take reservations directly through their own websites and phone lines, and hookup sites should be reserved well in advance for holiday weekends and fall foliage.
