Campgrounds and RV parks near Hollymead, VA

Hollymead sits just north of Charlottesville in central Virginia, within an hour's drive of Shenandoah National Park's southern district and the Blue Ridge foothills. The area works well as a base for RV travelers because it combines full-hookup private resorts near town with rustic National Park Service sites along Skyline Drive. Charlottesville KOA Holiday and Misty Mountain Camp Resort are the closest full-service private options, offering standard RV hookups, showers, and family amenities. Shenandoah Crossing Resort and Country Club adds a larger resort footprint with on-site activities. For a national park experience, Loft Mountain Campground is the largest campground inside Shenandoah National Park and the closest to Charlottesville, and Lewis Mountain Campground provides a smaller, quieter alternative farther north along the ridge. RVers should note that park campgrounds have no hookups. Travelers wanting sewer, water, and electric typically stay at the private campgrounds near Hollymead and take day trips into the park via Skyline Drive.

Reservations at Loft Mountain Campground are handled through Recreation.gov on a six-month rolling window, with additional sites released two weeks and four days before arrival. For fall foliage weekends in October, book the moment the window opens. Lewis Mountain Campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis, with arrival before noon on Fridays and weekends recommended to secure a site. Private parks such as Charlottesville KOA Holiday, Misty Mountain Camp Resort, and Shenandoah Crossing Resort and Country Club take direct reservations through their own websites or reservation lines. Cancellations at national park sites often cluster in the days before arrival, so checking Recreation.gov two to four weeks out can surface availability that was not there at booking release.
