Campgrounds and RV parks near Biron, WI

Water dominates the itinerary. Lake Petenwell covers over 23,000 acres and is Wisconsin's second-largest lake entirely within its borders, created in 1948 by a dam on the Wisconsin River, and it holds walleye, musky, northern pike, largemouth and smallmouth bass, bluegill, and crappie. Closer to Biron, Nepco Lake County Park has a beach, boat ramp, and fishing access, and Lake Wazeecha inside South Wood County Park offers sand beaches and boating. Families can catch Wisconsin Rapids Aqua Skiers water-ski shows on Lake Wazeecha weekly from mid-June through August at 6 PM, tour the Wisconsin Rapids Municipal Zoo at Wildwood Park, or head about half an hour south to Wisconsin Dells for waterparks. Trout anglers have access to several Class 1 and Class 2 streams in the surrounding countryside.

The core RV season runs May through October. Most private and county campgrounds in the Wisconsin Rapids area operate seasonally within that window, while the Wisconsin DNR offers year-round camping reservations at dozens of state parks and forests for ice fishing and snowmobile access. Summer brings warm, humid days, with July averaging a high near 78°F and a low near 60°F, and sites at family-oriented parks like Lakeside Fire Campground fill quickly around the Fourth of July, Memorial Day, and Labor Day weekends. Spring can leave low-lying sites soft or saturated after snowmelt, and water systems such as shower buildings and flush toilets at state properties may not be running until May 15, so travelers with big rigs should confirm site conditions before arrival. Fall delivers cool nights, fewer bugs, and hardwood color across central Wisconsin, typically peaking in early to mid-October. Winter is cold and snowy, with January the coldest month, averaging a high near 21°F and a low near 9°F; shoulder-season RVers should plan for freezing overnight temperatures and limited services at seasonal parks.

Sites near Biron range from open, gravel-pad RV spots with full hookups to shaded, wooded sites with electric only or basic services. Expect picnic tables and fire rings at most campgrounds, along with shower buildings at the larger private and county parks. State park sites may have vault toilets rather than flush facilities, depending on the loop. Cell coverage is generally reliable near Wisconsin Rapids and along the main highways but can thin out on the back roads around Petenwell and the county forests. Wisconsin firewood rules require certified wood or wood sourced locally to limit pest spread, so travelers should buy near the campground rather than hauling wood from home. Pets are welcome at Wisconsin State Park properties on a leash no longer than 8 feet, and mosquitoes and biting flies are active from late spring through summer, so bring repellent.
