Campgrounds and RV parks near Dickeyville, WI

The Dickeyville Grotto, built from stone, glass, and shells by a parish priest in the early twentieth century, is the village's signature stop and takes under an hour to walk. Wyalusing State Park, about 40 minutes north, offers bluff-top overlooks of the Wisconsin and Mississippi confluence, hiking trails, and paddling access. For river time, Grant River Recreation Area near Potosi provides boat launches on the Mississippi. The Potosi Brewery and National Brewery Museum sit a short drive east. Families often build a day around Galena, Illinois, with its walkable historic district, or head into Dubuque for the National Mississippi River Museum and Aquarium. Cyclists and hikers can reach several Driftless Area trails within a 45-minute radius, and fall color drives along the Great River Road are a common draw.

Most private campgrounds around Dickeyville operate on a seasonal calendar, typically opening in mid-April and closing in mid to late October. Rustic Barn Campground & RV Park, for example, generally runs from mid-April through late October. Winter camping is limited, and travelers should confirm dates directly with each park before arrival. Wisconsin state parks, including Wyalusing and Nelson Dewey, keep campgrounds open on a seasonal basis with limited or primitive winter access at select sites. Summer is peak season. Weekends from Memorial Day through Labor Day book heavily, especially at riverside and full-hookup sites. Holiday weekends often reach capacity weeks in advance, and larger rigs should reserve as early as reservations open. Spring brings variable weather and river-level fluctuations that can affect low-lying sites. Fall offers cooler nights, strong color along the Mississippi bluffs, and easier last-minute availability once school is back in session. Biting insects peak in late spring and early summer near the river.

Roads into Dickeyville are paved and RV-friendly, with US 61 and US 151 providing the main approaches. Some backroads to bluff-top parks include steep grades and tight turns, so drivers of longer rigs should plan routes in advance and use GPS profiles set for RV height and length. Site surfaces at private parks are typically gravel or grass with a mix of pull-through and back-in options. Full hookups are available on the pull-through sites at Rustic Barn, while state park sites more often provide electric only or no hookups, with dump stations on site. Cell coverage is generally reliable in the village and along main highways but can drop in river valleys and wooded state parks. Grocery, fuel, and propane are available in Dickeyville, Platteville, and across the river in Dubuque.
