Camping near Siren, Wisconsin
Siren sits in Burnett County in northwestern Wisconsin, roughly a two-hour drive from the Minneapolis-St. Paul metro. The village serves as a practical base for RV travelers exploring the lakes, county forests, and the St. Croix National Scenic Riverway to the west. Governor Knowles State Forest is about 20 miles from Siren, and adjacent to the forest boundary are over 100,000 acres of county forests and two large wildlife areas, Fish Lake Wildlife Area and Crex Meadows Wildlife Area.
RV options close to town include Syren RV Resort, Sundown Saloon Bar Grill and Campground, and Stuarts Leisure Acres Resorts. Birchwood Beach Campgrounds and Voyager Village RV Park sit a short drive out toward the surrounding lake country. Private resorts in the area typically offer full-hookup seasonal sites with water, sewer, and electric, plus quick access to lakes for boating, swimming, and fishing.
Public camping in the region ranges from developed state-forest campgrounds along the St. Croix River to primitive, reservation-only sites on Burnett County Forest land. Renters should match the campground type to their rig: private parks generally offer the easiest hookups and pull-throughs, while state and county sites lean rustic.
Things to do around Siren
Water is the main draw. The St. Croix River is a premier fishing destination with excellent water quality and a diverse number of species, including walleye, muskie, sauger, and smallmouth bass. Kayaking and canoeing are popular, with the river system varying from swift and rocky whitewater to placid flowages. Local lakes around Siren hold bass, northern pike, and bluegill.
On land, Governor Knowles State Forest offers 40 miles of hiking trails along with family and equestrian campgrounds, canoeing, fishing, hunting, cross-country skiing, and snowmobiling. The wildlife areas around Grantsburg host nesting herons, breeding eagles and osprey, sharp-tailed grouse, trumpeter swans, and Blanding's turtles, with large fall gatherings of sandhill cranes, waterfowl, and eagles.
Golf, ATV trail networks, and small-town dining round out day trips. Families often mix a morning at the beach with an afternoon on the trails.

21° / 7°F 20 mmDeep freeze; most private campgrounds closed for the season.
The prime RV season runs late May through mid-October. In Siren, the summers are warm and wet and the winters are freezing, snowy, and windy, so most private campgrounds operate on a seasonal schedule tied to the frost-free window. July and August bring the warmest weather and the highest demand at lakeside sites; reserve well ahead for weekends and holidays.
Spring arrives slowly this far north. Ice-out on area lakes usually happens in April, and mud season can affect unpaved sites into late April. May greens up quickly and is a good window for anglers and birders before biting insects peak.
Fall is a strong shoulder season. Camping at Crex Meadows Wildlife Area is allowed only at the rest area on the north end, with a camping season from September 1 through December 31, timed to sandhill crane migration and waterfowl hunting. Leaf color typically peaks in late September through early October. Winter camping is limited to a few state-forest and county options with primitive facilities.
How to book a campsite near Siren
Private RV parks near Siren, including Syren RV Resort, Sundown Saloon Bar Grill and Campground, Stuarts Leisure Acres Resorts, Birchwood Beach Campgrounds, and Voyager Village RV Park, take reservations directly by phone or through their websites. Seasonal and holiday weekends fill early, so lock dates in as soon as trip plans firm up.
For Wisconsin state forest campgrounds such as those in Governor Knowles State Forest, camping reservations can be made for the same day of arrival or up to 11 months before the planned occupancy date. Advance reservations booked before May 15 for stays between May 15 and Oct. 31 require a minimum two-night reservation, and a minimum three-night reservation is required on holiday weekends.
Burnett County Forest primitive sites are reserved separately through the county's own reservation system rather than the state DNR portal.
What to expect on-site
Private parks near Siren generally offer full or partial hookups, shower houses, and family amenities. Expect shower and bathroom buildings, water, sewer, and electric service on seasonal sites, and extras like playgrounds, mini golf, or sand volleyball at family-oriented resorts.
Public sites in the region trend rustic. State-forest campgrounds along the St. Croix generally provide fire rings, potable water, and vault toilets, with electric hookups limited or absent at most sites. Camping at Crex Meadows is allowed at the rest area seasonally, with no power, first come first served, and no designated sites.
Firewood rules apply: bring certified wood or buy locally to avoid moving pests. Cell coverage in the county forests can be spotty, so download maps before heading out.

Class C motorhomes average 8 to 12 miles per gallon (MPG), Class A rigs get 6 to 10 MPG, campervans (Class B) often hit 16 to 20 MPG, and travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle. Gas in Burnett County typically runs slightly above the Wisconsin average, with stations right in Siren along WI-35 and in nearby Webster and Grantsburg. The biggest things to watch for are deer (especially at dawn and dusk), occasional logging trucks, and gravel forest roads inside Governor Knowles State Forest, which larger Class A rigs should approach slowly. Winter brings ice and snow from November to March, so most renters stick to May through October. Cell service is reliable on main highways but spotty in the forest interior. Pro tip: bundle kayaks with delivery for an effortless Yellow Lake weekend.
dnr.wisconsin.gov/topic/parks/findaparkHow does payment and the security deposit work for an RV rental in Siren?
Payment is simple and secure through RVezy, you pay by credit card directly on the platform, never in cash to the host. At booking you are charged the rental cost plus taxes and fees, and a refundable security deposit, separate from your booking payment and typically $500 to $1,500 depending on the RV, is pre-authorized on your card before pickup. As long as you return the rig in the same condition (clean, fuel topped up, no damage beyond normal wear), the hold is released after the trip. To avoid issues, do a thorough walkthrough video at pickup and dropoff and follow the host's cleaning expectations. Pro tip: snap photos of mileage, fuel, and propane at both ends, this small habit prevents most disputes.
