Campgrounds and RV parks near Sturgeon Bay, WI

Potawatomi State Park spreads across 1,200 acres of rolling terrain bordered by limestone cliffs, with year-round activities including camping, hiking, biking, boating, skiing, and snowmobiling. The park's observation tower and shoreline trails are a common first stop, and the park sits at the northern terminus of the Ice Age National Scenic Trail. In town, the Door County Maritime Museum covers Great Lakes shipping history and includes a restored tugboat and the Jim Kress Maritime Lighthouse Tower. The Sturgeon Bay Canal Light and the Ship Canal Nature Preserve Beach are both worth a short detour. Cherry blossoms typically peak in mid-May, while mid-July through mid-August is prime cherry-picking time at local orchards. Families staying at Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park™ Camp-Resort: Sturgeon Bay also have on-site pools, mini golf, and character appearances without leaving the campground.

The private campgrounds around Sturgeon Bay run a seasonal calendar. Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park™ Camp-Resort: Sturgeon Bay, Tranquil Timbers Camping Resort, Harbour Village Resort, and Monument Point Camping generally operate from spring through mid-fall, with most sites available from May into October. Peak demand runs from the Independence Day holiday through mid-August, overlapping with cherry harvest and the Jacksonport Cherry Fest on the first Saturday of August. Camping seasons at Potawatomi State Park typically run spring through fall, though the park itself is open year-round for day use, hiking, and cross-country skiing. Late May brings cherry blossoms in the surrounding orchards, and September into mid-October delivers cooler nights, thinner crowds, and fall color on the bluffs above Green Bay. Winter is the quiet season. Most private parks are closed, snow covers the ground for much of the season, and the town's Fire and Ice Festival in mid-February is one of the few draws for cold-weather visitors.

Site types vary widely. Potawatomi State Park offers electric and non-electric family sites, with no water or sewer hookups at individual sites, and the wooded loops at Daisy Field skew toward tree cover rather than open pull-throughs. Cell service is generally usable but can be spotty under the canopy. Private resorts run closer to full service. Options in the area typically include 30 and 50-amp electrical service, water and sewer at many sites, dump station access, pull-through sites for larger RVs, and rental cabins for guests without their own equipment. Tranquil Timbers Camping Resort and Harbour Village Resort mix nightly RV sites with seasonal sites and cabin rentals. Expect mosquitoes near wooded and shoreline sites in early summer, cool nights even in July, and firewood restrictions typical of Wisconsin state parks. Buy firewood locally rather than hauling it in.
