Campgrounds near Withee, Wisconsin
Withee is a small village in Clark County, in the central-northwest part of Wisconsin, just off Highway 29. The village retains a small-town character and sits near the Black River, with easy access to the surrounding forest and lake country. For RV travelers, it works as a low-traffic base between Eau Claire and Wausau, with a mix of private campgrounds and county parks within an hour's drive.
The nearest options include Wedges Creek Hideaway, Little Creek Family Campground, Doc's Bunkhouse, and Split Ridge Campground, along with Otter Lake Park Campground to the northwest in Chippewa County. Sites range from rustic tent pads to full-hookup RV pull-throughs, and several parks sit on or near lakes and creeks used for fishing and paddling.
Clark County's public campgrounds range from primitive to modern, with Rock Dam offering modern camping and multi-season outdoor experiences. Camping in the county forest itself is available by permit, giving renters flexibility: hookups and showers when needed, or quieter forest sites when not.
Things to do near Withee
Fishing and paddling drive most trips here. Mead Lake, less than an hour southeast, is the second largest lake in Clark County and provides excellent fishing, with two public boat landings, one located immediately at the campground. Otter Lake, to the northwest, is filled with panfish, largemouth bass, northern pike, and walleye, and is known as one of the best fishing lakes in Chippewa County.
Trails are the other draw. The Levis Mound Recreational Area, south of Withee, offers a well-regarded mountain-bike trail system, exceptional hiking trails, and scenic terrain. ATV and snowmobile routes run through the Clark County Forest, and several campgrounds tie directly into those trail networks.
For families, most county parks pair a beach with a playground and shelter, and the Amish and Mennonite country stores around Withee are a common daytime stop for RV travelers based nearby.

The camping season in this part of Wisconsin is short and clearly defined. Clark County campsites are available for reservation May 1st through September 30th, with self-registration camping available the rest of the year, though campground facilities are extremely limited during that time and access is not guaranteed. Water systems and shower buildings are usually shut off once nights drop below freezing.
June through August is peak. Weekends around the July 4th holiday and the state fishing opener book earliest, and lakeside sites at parks like Mead Lake and Otter Lake fill first. September brings cooler nights, fewer bugs, and open sites midweek, and early October delivers fall color across the maple and oak woodlands.
Neillsville, just south of Withee, averages 47 inches of snow per year, with most falling between November and March, so most private RV parks close for the winter. Snowmobilers and ATV riders still use the county forest, but plumbed RV camping is not practical in that window.
How to book
Reservation rules split by operator. Private campgrounds around Withee, including Wedges Creek Hideaway, Little Creek Family Campground, Doc's Bunkhouse, and Split Ridge Campground, take bookings directly by phone or through their own websites. Holiday weekends and prime lakeside sites should be booked several months out.
Clark County uses an online reservation portal, and beginning in 2025 reservations can only be made in the same calendar year, so 400-day advance bookings are no longer permitted and each new season opens on January 1st. Camping in the Clark County Forest itself requires a permit, purchased online or at self-registration locations around the forest.
Otter Lake Park Campground, northwest of Withee in Chippewa County, is reserved through the Chippewa County Parks reservation site. Confirm rig length limits and hookup type before booking, since sites are electric-only with no on-site sewer.
What to expect
Expect mixed hookups. At Chippewa County parks such as Otter Lake, 20-30-50 amp electricity is installed on all sites. Otter Lake has a fill station but no sanitary dump on site; guests can use the sanitary dump station at Chapman Park in Stanley. Private parks near Withee more often offer full hookups and Wi-Fi.
There is little to no cell phone reception at Otter Lake Campground, though an emergency phone is available to call 911. Download maps before leaving pavement.
Firewood is available from the caretaker per wheelbarrow, or from a self-serve firewood dispenser on site. Bring bug spray from late May through July and a light layer for cool nights even in summer.
