Frequently asked questions about renting an RV in Saint Marys, ON
How much does it cost to rent an RV in Saint Marys, Ontario?
RV rental in Saint Marys is one of the most affordable ways to explore Perth County. On RVezy, you'll typically find travel trailers from around $100 to $175 per night, campervans and Class B motorhomes from $150 to $225 per night, and family-sized Class C motorhomes from $200 to $300 per night. Mid-week stays and shoulder-season bookings in May or September usually deliver the best value. For a cheap RV rental in Saint Marys, filter for travel trailers where the host delivers and sets up, so you skip towing costs entirely. Pro tip: book Sunday to Thursday around Wildwood Conservation Area to dodge weekend Stratford Festival demand.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Saint%20Marys%2C%20OntarioWhat kind of driver's license do I need to rent an RV in Saint Marys?
Easy answer: your regular full Class G Ontario driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Saint Marys for virtually every listing on RVezy. Ontario allows you to drive motorhomes up to 11,000 kilograms (about 24,250 pounds) with a standard Class G license, which covers nearly every Class B campervan, Class C motorhome, travel trailer, and fifth wheel on the platform. You'll need to be 25 or older to book on RVezy, and ID verification happens right inside your account. Visiting from outside Canada? Bring your home-country license plus an International Driving Permit (IDP) if your license isn't in English or French, and you're road-ready.
ontario.ca/page/driving-recreational-vehicle-rvIs my RV rental in Saint Marys protected if something goes wrong?
Yes, every RVezy booking in Saint Marys includes a renter protection plan and 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can hit Highway 7 with confidence. You choose your protection level during checkout (not the host), so you can tailor coverage to your budget and comfort level. While it isn't traditional auto insurance, it provides meaningful financial protection that thousands of first-time renters rely on. Pro tip: take a few photos of the RV at pickup during your host walkthrough in Saint Marys, that simple habit prevents nearly every dispute.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat happens if I need to cancel my Saint Marys RV trip?
Booking is low-risk. RVezy sets the cancellation policy (not individual hosts), and every reservation includes a grace-period window where you can cancel for a full refund shortly after booking. Beyond that, refunds depend on how far in advance of your trip start date you cancel. You can review the full cancellation policy on the RVezy Help Center before you confirm. Pro tip: lock in your dates early for July weekends near the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame, you can always adjust within the policy if plans change.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a pet-friendly RV rental in Saint Marys?
Yes, four-legged co-pilots are welcome. A pet-friendly RV rental in Saint Marys is easy to find on RVezy: just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter and you'll see listings where hosts welcome dogs (and sometimes cats). Once you arrive, Wildwood Conservation Area allows leashed pets on most campsites and trails, and the Grand Trunk Trail through downtown Saint Marys is a scenic leashed-dog walk along the Thames River. The Saint Marys Quarry swim area is for humans only, so plan dog swims at quieter river access spots instead. Pro tip: message the host before booking to confirm any pet fees and size limits, most are very accommodating for well-behaved pups.
discoverstmarys.ca/en/see-and-do/parks-and-trails.aspxCan the RV be delivered to my campground in Saint Marys?
Yes, RV delivery in Saint Marys is one of the most popular ways to book, especially for first-timers. Many RVezy hosts will deliver the RV right to Wildwood Conservation Area, a private property, or even a friend's driveway in town, then set up the awning, level the unit, connect hookups, and walk you through every system. That means zero towing stress and zero learning curve on day one. Use the Delivery filter when you search to see hosts offering this service and their delivery fees, which typically scale with distance. Pro tip: delivery to Wildwood (about 10 minutes from downtown Saint Marys) is a sweet spot, a short trip for the host and a stunning reservoir-side basecamp for you.
thamesriver.on.ca/parks-recreation-natural-areas/wildwood-conservation-area/How far can I drive on a Saint Marys RV trip?
Quite far, actually. Most RVezy hosts in Saint Marys include a generous daily mileage allowance (often 100 to 200 kilometres per day), and some offer RV rental with unlimited mileage, which is ideal for longer Ontario road trips. From Saint Marys you can reach Stratford in about 20 minutes (around 20 km), London in 45 minutes (about 50 km), Grand Bend on Lake Huron in roughly an hour (about 75 km), Niagara Falls in around 2.5 hours (about 220 km), and Tobermory on the Bruce Peninsula in around 3.5 to 4 hours (about 280 km). Check each listing's mileage policy before booking, and if you're planning a bigger loop, message the host to arrange extra kilometres up front.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Saint%20Marys%2C%20OntarioWhere are the best campgrounds near Saint Marys for RV camping?
You've got excellent options within minutes of town. Wildwood Conservation Area, about 10 minutes north of Saint Marys, offers hundreds of sites on a large reservoir with swimming, paddling, and kilometres of trails, run by the Upper Thames River Conservation Authority. Fanshawe Conservation Area in London (about 50 km south) is another UTRCA favourite with electrical and full-service sites. Pittock Conservation Area near Woodstock rounds out the trio. For private RV camping near Saint Marys, Windmill Family Campground sits just outside town with full hookups. Pro tip: book Wildwood waterfront sites the moment UTRCA reservations open in February each year, they fill quickly.
thamesriver.on.ca/parks-recreation-natural-areas/wildwood-conservation-area/When is the best time to rent an RV in Saint Marys, Ontario?
Late May through early October is prime time for RV camping in Saint Marys, aligning with the UTRCA camping season. July and August are warmest, with daytime highs typically in the mid-20s C and evenings cooling to the mid-teens, perfect for swimming at the Saint Marys Quarry and catching Stratford Festival shows. June and September are smart shoulder months: mild days, fewer bugs, and easier campsite availability. October brings stunning fall colour along the Thames River. Winters are cold with regular snow, so most hosts pause rentals from November through April. Pro tip: book a September weekday for the best mix of weather, price, and quiet trails.
climate.weather.gc.ca/climate_normals/results_1981_2010_e.html?stnID=4778I've never rented an RV before. Will I actually figure it out?
Yes, and faster than you'd think. Every RVezy host in Saint Marys gives you a full orientation at pickup: how to operate the propane, fridge, awning, water system, slide-outs, and dump valves, plus tips on driving the specific RV. You're never handed keys and left to figure it out alone. For first time renting an RV, travel trailers delivered and set up at Wildwood are the easiest path, the host does the towing and leveling for you. You can also message the host directly through the listing with questions before booking. Pro tip: ask your host for a quick reference video or text thread you can revisit once you're parked, most are happy to help mid-trip.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/categories/360002558433-For-RentersWhat if I have an issue with the RV during my trip?
You're covered around the clock. Every RVezy booking in Saint Marys includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan, so help is one phone call away whether you have a flat tire on Highway 7, a battery issue at Wildwood, or a propane question at midnight. Your host is also typically your first call for quick questions, since they know their RV inside and out. RVezy's support team is available before, during, and after every trip through the Help Center. Pro tip: save the roadside number and your host's contact in your phone before you leave the pickup location, then enjoy your Saint Marys RV trip knowing the safety net is in place.
rvezy.com/insurance-and-protectionCan I take my Saint Marys RV rental across the US border?
Often yes, but always confirm with your host first. Saint Marys is roughly 1.5 hours from the Sarnia-Port Huron border crossing and about 2 hours from the Windsor-Detroit crossing, making a US side trip to Michigan very doable. Many RVezy hosts allow cross-border travel, but some restrict it for insurance reasons, so message the host through the listing before booking. Important: travel to Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals. Bring your passport, vehicle registration, and a letter of authorization from the host. Pro tip: popular cross-border routes from Saint Marys include Michigan's Lake Huron shoreline and the Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn, both within easy reach for a multi-day loop.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039789013-Can-I-take-the-RV-across-the-Canada-US-borderWhat kind of fuel mileage should I budget for an RV road trip from Saint Marys?
Budget smart and you'll be pleasantly surprised. Class B campervans average about 18 to 22 mpg (roughly 11 to 13 L/100 km), Class C motorhomes get 10 to 14 mpg (17 to 24 L/100 km), and travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle but typically add 30 to 40 percent to your normal consumption. Gas prices in Perth County tend to run a few cents below Toronto averages, with stations on Queen Street and Water Street in Saint Marys plus larger options in Stratford and London. A typical weekend round-trip to Wildwood and back uses very little fuel. Pro tip: fuel up in Saint Marys or Stratford rather than at highway-adjacent stations near the 401, you'll save several cents per litre.
ontario.ca/page/gasoline-pricesHow far ahead should I book a campground near Saint Marys?
Book early and you'll get your pick of the best spots. Wildwood, Fanshawe, and Pittock Conservation Areas open seasonal reservations in February through the Upper Thames River Conservation Authority's online reservation system. Waterfront and full-service sites for July and August long weekends often sell out within hours of opening. For private campgrounds like Windmill Family Campground, booking 2 to 3 months ahead is usually enough. Pro tip: if you miss the February rush, check the UTRCA reservation system weekly for cancellations, sites pop back open all season long, especially mid-week, making for a great spontaneous RV camping Saint Marys weekend.
thamesriver.on.ca/parks-recreation-natural-areas/What are the driving conditions like around Saint Marys?
Driving an RV around Saint Marys is genuinely relaxing compared to big-city Ontario. You're on rural Perth County roads and Highway 7, which is two lanes, well-maintained, and lightly trafficked outside Stratford Festival rush periods. Watch for the limestone railway trestle bridges as you enter town (the historic Sarnia Bridge is now a trail, but low-clearance signage applies elsewhere), and take Queen Street slowly since downtown has narrow heritage streets. Winter brings lake-effect snow squalls off Lake Huron, which is why most rentals run May to October. Pro tip: avoid Highway 8 through Stratford on Saturday afternoons during festival season; loop south via Perth Line 20 instead for a smoother RV road trip from Saint Marys.
511on.ca/What amenities do campgrounds near Saint Marys offer?
Expect modern comfort with a nature-first feel. Wildwood Conservation Area offers a mix of electrical (15/30 amp) and non-serviced sites, modern washrooms with showers, a sani-dump station, potable water fill, a swimming beach, canoe and kayak rentals, and an extensive trail network. Fanshawe and Pittock Conservation Areas offer similar facilities, including some full-service sites. Private parks like Windmill Family Campground add 30-amp full hookups and family amenities. For dumping and water fills while in the area, the Wildwood gatehouse is your most reliable option. Pro tip: arrive with full fresh water if you're staying at a non-serviced site, then top up at the dump station on your way out.
thamesriver.on.ca/parks-recreation-natural-areas/wildwood-conservation-area/What features and amenities can I expect inside a Saint Marys RV rental?
More than you might expect. Most motorhome rental Saint Marys listings include a queen or king bed, a full kitchen (fridge, stove, microwave, sink), a bathroom with toilet and shower, a dinette that converts to extra sleeping space, air conditioning, a furnace for chilly Perth County nights, and seatbelts for everyone riding. Many family-sized Class C motorhomes sleep 6 to 8 comfortably. Wifi and TVs depend on the host, and generators are common in motorhomes for off-grid stays. Each listing page details exactly what's onboard, so you can filter by sleeps count and amenities. Pro tip: for a family RV trip Saint Marys-style, look for bunk-model travel trailers, the kids get their own space and you keep the back bedroom.
destinationontario.com/en-ca/articles/rving-ontario-for-beginnersWhat add-ons and options can I get with my Saint Marys RV rental?
Lots of ways to customize your trip. Popular add-ons from RVezy hosts in Saint Marys include camping chairs and tables, bedding and linen packages, kitchen kits, bikes, paddleboards (perfect for Wildwood Reservoir), generators, propane fills, and pet packages. Many hosts also offer delivery and setup as a flat-fee add-on, plus optional dump-and-refill service so you don't have to handle waste yourself. Pickup is usually at the host's home or a mutually agreed location in or near Saint Marys, and drop-off mirrors that. Mileage policies vary by listing, ranging from set daily kilometres to unlimited. Pro tip: bundle delivery plus a stocked-kitchen add-on and your first night at Wildwood feels like checking into a lakeside cabin.
discoverstmarys.ca/en/index.aspxHow do payment and the security deposit work when I rent an RV in Saint Marys?
Simple and secure. When you book on RVezy, payment is handled through the platform with a credit card, so you never send money directly to a host. A refundable security deposit is placed as a hold (not a charge) on your card a few days before your trip starts, then released after drop-off assuming the RV comes back in the same condition. Deposit amounts vary by listing and are clearly shown before you confirm. Pro tip: complete a thorough walkthrough at pickup with the host, take dated photos, refill fuel and propane to where you started, and your deposit should be released without issue, leaving you free to plan your next RV trip from Saint Marys.
