Frequently asked questions about renting an RV in Roberval, QC
How much does an RV rental in Roberval typically cost?
Renting an RV in Roberval is surprisingly affordable compared to big-city Quebec rentals, since you're far from Montreal markups. On RVezy, expect roughly CAD $125 to $200 per night for travel trailers, $175 to $275 for Class C motorhomes, and $250 plus for larger Class A units, with peak pricing in July and August during the Traversée Internationale du Lac Saint-Jean swim event. To score a cheap RV rental in Roberval, book mid-week, target late June or early September shoulder dates, and use the price filter to sort listings. Many hosts also offer weekly discounts of 10 to 20 percent, so adding even one extra night can lower your per-night cost.
bonjourquebec.com/en/where-to-go/regions-of-quebec/saguenay-lac-saint-jean/robervalWhat license do I need to rent an RV in Roberval, Quebec?
Good news: a regular Class 5 Quebec driver's license (or its equivalent from any Canadian province, US state, or international jurisdiction) is all you need to rent an RV in Roberval. No special motorhome endorsement or commercial license is required for any standard RV you'll find on RVezy. You do need to be at least 25 years old, and RVezy verifies your ID directly through the booking platform, so there's no extra paperwork at pickup. Visiting from outside Canada? Bring your home-country license plus an International Driving Permit if your license isn't in English or French. Most first-time renters are surprised how straightforward the process is.
saaq.gouv.qc.ca/en/drivers-licences/obtaining-licence/class-5-passenger-vehiclesIs insurance and roadside assistance included with my RV rental in Roberval?
Yes, every RV rental in Roberval booked through RVezy includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can explore the Lac Saint-Jean region with peace of mind. During checkout you choose the protection level that fits your comfort, from basic to premium, and that plan covers damage to the RV during your trip subject to its terms. If you get a flat tire on Route 169 or have a battery issue at a remote Lac Saint-Jean campground, one call to RVezy's roadside team gets help dispatched. Full coverage details are on RVezy's insurance and protection page.
rvezy.com/insurance-and-protectionWhat happens if I need to cancel my Roberval RV booking?
You have flexibility built in. RVezy sets the cancellation policy (not individual hosts), and bookings include a money-back grace period right after booking so you can lock in your dates with confidence. After that window, refund amounts depend on how far in advance you cancel relative to your trip start date. If a host cancels on you, RVezy refunds you or provides travel credits so your plans are protected. The full policy is on the RVezy Help Center, and support can walk you through your options. The takeaway: booking your Roberval RV trip is low-risk, so you can secure that peak-summer rig before someone else does.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a Roberval RV trip?
Absolutely, and Lac Saint-Jean is one of Quebec's most dog-welcoming regions. Many RVezy listings near Roberval are pet-friendly, just flip the Pet-Friendly filter when you search to see them instantly. For an unforgettable pet-friendly RV rental in Roberval experience, head to Parc national de la Pointe-Taillon, where leashed dogs are welcome on the 45 km cycling path that hugs the lake. Plage Saint-Jude in Roberval also has dog-friendly walking areas nearby. Pro tip: message the host before booking to confirm any pet fee (usually $10 to $25 per night) and to ask about a backyard or fenced spot if they're delivering the RV to a private property.
sepaq.com/pq/ptl/Can the RV be delivered to my campground in Roberval?
Yes, RV delivery in Roberval is one of the smartest moves for first-time renters, especially if you're flying into Bagotville Airport (YBG) or arriving by car without a tow vehicle. Many RVezy hosts in the Lac Saint-Jean area will deliver and set up the motorhome or trailer directly at popular spots like Camping Mont-Plaisant, Camping de Saint-Félicien, or Parc national de la Pointe-Taillon. They'll level the rig, connect water and power, and walk you through every system before handing over the keys. Use the Delivery filter to see which hosts offer it. Delivery fees typically range from $2 to $5 per kilometre from the host's home base, and many waive the fee for longer bookings.
sepaq.com/pq/ptl/sejour.dotHow far can I drive on a Roberval RV trip, and is unlimited mileage available?
You've got plenty of range to explore. Most RVezy hosts in Roberval include 100 to 200 km per day, and some offer RV rental with unlimited mileage, which is perfect if you're planning the full 256 km Tour du Lac-Saint-Jean loop through Saint-Félicien, Dolbeau-Mistassini, and Péribonka. Additional kilometres are usually $0.30 to $0.45 each if you go over, so estimate your route first. From Roberval, popular distances include Saguenay (155 km), Quebec City (260 km), Tadoussac for whale watching (310 km), and Parc national des Monts-Valin (200 km). Filter listings by Unlimited Mileage if you're planning a longer Quebec RV road trip from Roberval.
quebecoriginal.com/en-ca/discover/regions/saguenay-lac-saint-jeanWhat are the best campgrounds near Roberval for RV camping?
You're spoiled for choice for RV camping in Roberval. Top picks include Camping Mont-Plaisant, just minutes from downtown with 225 spacious sites and full hookups right on the route to the airport; Parc national de la Pointe-Taillon in Sainte-Monique, a SEPAQ park about 65 km away famous for its sandy beach and bike path; Camping de Saint-Félicien, 25 km north, perfect for families visiting the famous Zoo sauvage; and Camping Plage Belley in Saint-Henri-de-Taillon, known for its beachfront sites. For a quieter option, try Camping Ermitage Saint-Antoine in Lac-Bouchette. Book SEPAQ parks 3 to 6 months ahead for summer weekends, they fill up fast.
sepaq.com/pq/ptl/When is the best time to rent an RV in Roberval?
The sweet spot for an RV trip in Roberval is mid-June through early September, when Lac Saint-Jean warms enough for swimming (often hitting 21 to 23 °C on the surface in July) and daytime air temperatures sit around 22 to 26 °C. July brings the iconic Traversée Internationale du Lac St-Jean swim marathon, while late August and early September deliver fewer mosquitoes, smaller campground crowds, and the start of vibrant fall colours through the Boreal forest. Winters are genuinely cold (often -20 °C in January), so most hosts pause rentals between November and April. Book early for the last two weeks of July, the region's busiest stretch.

Will I be okay driving one around Roberval?
You'll do great, and Roberval is honestly one of the easiest places in Quebec to learn. Route 169 around Lac Saint-Jean is flat, well-maintained, and far less stressful than driving in Montreal or Quebec City. Every RVezy host gives you a full walkthrough at pickup, covering propane, slide-outs, the dump valves, water tanks, and brakes, and you can text them throughout your trip with questions. First time renting an RV? Choose a Class C motorhome or a smaller travel trailer in the 20 to 25 foot range, they handle like a big van. Practice in the parking lot at Galeries Roberval before heading out, and you'll feel confident by your first campground arrival.
quebec511.info/en/What if something breaks down during my Roberval RV trip?
You're covered around the clock. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan, so a flat tire on Route 169, a dead battery at a campground near Pointe-Taillon, or a propane issue near Saint-Felicien is just one phone call away from help. Your host is also a great first contact, they know their rig inside and out and can often troubleshoot a quirky generator or slide-out over the phone. For mechanical issues beyond DIY, RVezy can dispatch a service provider to your location. Save the RVezy support number in your phone before pickup, and screenshot your host's contact info in case you're in a cell-coverage dead zone north of Lac-Bouchette.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Roberval RV rental across the border into the US or to other provinces?
Many Quebec RV road trips from Roberval cross into Ontario, New Brunswick, or even down to Vermont and Maine, and plenty of RVezy hosts allow it. Cross-border travel into the US is permitted with many hosts, but you'll need to confirm directly with the host before booking and make sure your selected protection plan covers US travel. Travel into Mexico is not allowed on any RVezy rental. Popular routes from Roberval include the Saguenay Fjord loop through Tadoussac, the Gaspe Peninsula, and Ottawa. Message your host with your full route, they'll confirm in writing and may adjust the included mileage to suit a longer trip.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat kind of fuel costs and mileage should I budget for my Roberval RV trip?
Budgeting is easy once you know the numbers. Gas prices in Roberval typically run a few cents higher than Montreal, sitting in the CAD $1.60 to $1.85 per litre range in summer. Class C motorhomes average 18 to 22 L/100 km, travel trailers add 30 to 40 percent to your tow vehicle's consumption, and campervans (Class B) are the most efficient at 12 to 14 L/100 km. For the full 256 km Tour du Lac-Saint-Jean loop in a Class C, plan on roughly $90 to $110 in fuel. Fill up in Roberval or Saint-Félicien before heading into more remote stretches toward Chibougamau, where stations are far apart and prices climb.
rncan.gc.ca/energy/fuel-prices/4593How far in advance should I book a campground near Roberval?
Book early and you'll get the best sites. For SEPAQ-managed parks like Parc national de la Pointe-Taillon, reservations open in early January for the upcoming summer, and waterfront sites for July and August weekends can be gone within hours. Private campgrounds such as Camping Mont-Plaisant and Camping Plage Belley typically take bookings 3 to 4 months ahead and fill up by May for peak weekends. For shoulder-season trips in June or September, 2 to 3 weeks of notice is usually enough. Pro tip: pair your RVezy booking with a SEPAQ reservation on the same day, both confirm instantly so you'll know your full trip is locked in.
sepaq.com/reservation/index.dotWhat are the driving conditions like around Roberval?
Driving around Roberval is some of the most relaxed RV touring in Quebec. Route 169 circles Lac Saint-Jean with gentle curves, wide shoulders, and minimal traffic outside of festival weekends. Watch for moose and white-tailed deer at dawn and dusk, especially on the stretch between Saint-Félicien and Dolbeau-Mistassini, where wildlife crossings are common. Spring (April to May) can bring frost heaves and potholes, while late fall brings early snow, so summer driving is by far the easiest. Avoid driving the rural Route 167 toward Chibougamau in low visibility. For real-time road conditions and construction alerts, check Québec 511 before each leg of your trip.
quebec511.info/en/What amenities can I expect at campgrounds near Roberval?
Most campgrounds around Roberval are well-equipped for RV travellers. Camping Mont-Plaisant offers full-service sites (30-amp electric, water, sewer), a dump station, laundry, hot showers, and Wi-Fi near the office. SEPAQ's Parc national de la Pointe-Taillon has 2 and 3-service sites along with a centralized dump station and potable water fills. Private parks like Camping Plage Belley include beach access, playgrounds, and convenience stores. For free water fills and dumping between stops, most provincial parks in the Saguenay Lac-Saint-Jean region allow day-use access for a small fee. Pro tip: top up your fresh water tank before heading north of Dolbeau-Mistassini, services thin out quickly past that point.
sepaq.com/pq/ptl/services.dotWhat's actually inside the RVs available for rent in Roberval?
You'll be impressed by how loaded RVezy rentals in Roberval are. Most Class C motorhomes sleep 4 to 7 with a queen bed over the cab, a convertible dinette, full kitchen (stove, oven, microwave, fridge), bathroom with shower and toilet, propane furnace, roof AC, and a generator for off-grid use at remote spots like Parc national de la Pointe-Taillon. Travel trailers offer similar layouts without the drive-cab. Many listings include outdoor speakers, awnings, BBQs, camp chairs, and even kayaks or bikes (perfect for the Véloroute des Bleuets cycling path). Filter by Sleeps, Generator, or specific amenities on RVezy to match exactly what you need. Wi-Fi is rare on-board, so plan to use cell hotspots.
veloroutedesbleuets.com/en/What add-ons and pickup options should I know about for my Roberval RV rental?
Most RVezy hosts in Roberval offer optional add-ons that make your trip easier: linen and bedding packs, kitchen kits, bike racks, paddleboards, fishing gear (huge in Lac Saint-Jean for ouananiche and walleye), and propane top-offs. Pickup is usually at the host's home in or near Roberval, and most hosts are flexible on timing if you message ahead. Some hosts allow one-way arrangements to Saguenay or Quebec City, message them directly to ask. Always do a thorough walkthrough at pickup, take photos of the exterior and odometer, and confirm the mileage policy in writing through RVezy messaging.
tourismeroberval.com/How does payment and the security deposit work for an RV rental in Roberval?
Payment is simple and fully handled through RVezy, you'll never hand cash to a host. You pay for your booking securely through the RVezy platform, and the host receives funds after your trip starts. A refundable security deposit is held separately from your booking payment and is pre-authorized on your credit card before pickup, not actually charged unless there's damage or a policy violation. To avoid any issues, do a full walkaround video at pickup and drop-off, return the RV with the same fuel and propane levels, and empty the black and grey tanks at a dump station before returning. Deposit holds are released after your trip ends, typically within a few days.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksCan I rent an RV in Roberval in the winter?
Winter RV rentals in Roberval are rare but not impossible, and they can be a genuine adventure if you're into ice fishing on Lac Saint-Jean or snowmobiling on the regional trail network. Most RVezy hosts pause rentals from November to April because of deep cold snaps that can reach -25 to -30 degrees C, but a few offer four-season units with heated holding tanks, enclosed underbellies, and shore-power hookups so you can stay plugged in at a winterized campground. If you're interested, filter for available winter dates and message hosts directly. Pro tip: pair a winter campervan rental in Roberval with a stay near the Val-Jalbert historic village for a magical snow-covered experience.
