Frequently asked questions about renting an RV in Saguenay, QC
How much does an RV rental in Saguenay cost, and how can I save?
RV rental in Saguenay is surprisingly affordable for such a wild, scenic region. On RVezy, motorhome rentals near Saguenay average around $200 CAD per night, while travel trailers and towables come in closer to $120 CAD per night. If you're hunting for a cheap RV rental in Saguenay, most hosts offer 10 to 20 percent discounts on weekly and monthly bookings, and shoulder-season trips in late May, early June, or September can knock prices down further. Pro tip: book mid-week stays in June to enjoy long daylight hours (up to 16 hours of sun) and lower demand before the August peak when fjord tourism is at its busiest.
tourismesaguenaylacsaintjean.com/enDo I need a special license to rent an RV in Saguenay, Quebec?
Good news, no special license is required to rent an RV in Saguenay for almost every rig on RVezy. According to the Société de l'assurance automobile du Québec (SAAQ), a standard Class 5 passenger driver's license is all you need to operate a motorhome with two axles and a net weight under 4,500 kg, and you can tow a recreational trailer with no weight restrictions. You must be at least 25 years old to book on RVezy, and we confirm your ID right through the platform. Visiting from outside Canada? Your valid home-country license works just fine. Most first-timers are amazed at how quickly the paperwork is done so they can hit Route du Fjord.
saaq.gouv.qc.ca/en/drivers-licences/drivers-licence-classesWhat protection is included when I rent an RV in Saguenay?
Every RV rental in Saguenay booked through RVezy automatically includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can focus on watching belugas in the fjord instead of worrying about the small stuff. You choose your protection level at checkout (not the host), giving you control over your coverage and peace of mind. With remote stretches of Route 172 between Saguenay and Tadoussac, having roadside help one phone call away is a genuine comfort. Book confidently and let the Saguenay Fjord do the rest.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat if I need to cancel my Saguenay RV trip?
Booking your Saguenay RV trip is low-risk thanks to RVezy's cancellation policy, which is set by RVezy and applies consistently to every reservation regardless of which RV or host you choose. Refund tiers depend on how far out you are from your trip start date, so cancelling earlier generally means a larger refund. If severe weather (common in the Saguenay region from November through March) threatens your trip, message your host early and contact RVezy support to review your options. Pro tip: review the full cancellation policy on the RVezy Help Center before booking so you know exactly what to expect.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a pet-friendly RV rental in Saguenay?
Absolutely, plenty of pet-friendly RV rental Saguenay options are available on RVezy. Just use the Pet-Friendly filter when browsing listings and you'll see hosts who happily welcome four-legged co-pilots. For dog-friendly camping in the region, Camping Belley on Lac Saint-Jean and Camping Tadoussac both allow leashed pets on most sites. Heads-up: Parc national du Fjord-du-Saguenay's Baie-Sainte-Marguerite sector restricts dogs near the protected beluga habitat, so plan trails like the Sentier de la Statue at Baie-Éternité or Pointe-Taillon's cycling network instead. Bring a tie-out, collapsible water bowl, and your dog's vaccination records, and you're ready to explore.
sepaq.com/pq/sagCan the RV be delivered to my campground in Saguenay?
Yes, RV delivery Saguenay is one of the best-kept secrets for stress-free trips, especially for first-time renters. Many RVezy hosts in the Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean region will drive the RV directly to your campsite at Parc national de la Pointe-Taillon, Camping Belley, or Le Bleuvet in Parc national du Fjord-du-Saguenay, level it, hook up power and water, and walk you through every system before they leave. Filter listings by Delivery on RVezy to see who offers it and their delivery radius. Pro tip: delivery is a game-changer if you're flying into Bagotville Airport (YBG) and don't want to drive a big rig on Route 170 right out of the gate.
sepaq.com/pq/ptaHow far can I drive, and are there RV rentals with unlimited mileage in Saguenay?
You've got plenty of road to explore on a Saguenay RV trip, and yes, some hosts offer RV rental with unlimited mileage while others include a generous daily allowance (typically 200 to 300 km per day) with a small per-kilometre fee beyond. Each listing clearly displays its mileage policy before you book, so there are no surprises. Popular distances from Saguenay: Tadoussac for whale watching is about 210 km (2.5 hours), Quebec City is about 210 km (2.5 hours), Charlevoix is about 130 km (1.5 hours), and the full Lac Saint-Jean loop is roughly 240 km. Pro tip: if you're planning the entire Route du Fjord circuit, filter for unlimited-mileage listings to keep the meter off your mind.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Saguenay%2C%20QuebecWhere are the best campgrounds near Saguenay for RV camping?
RV camping Saguenay is spectacular, and you've got plenty of standout options. Parc national de la Pointe-Taillon (Saint-Henri-de-Taillon, about 60 km from Saguenay) offers serviced sites at Camp-de-Touage–Les-Îles right beside Lac Saint-Jean's sandy beaches. Camping Belley nearby has 285 sites with full hookups and a private beach. Le Bleuvet Campground inside Parc national du Fjord-du-Saguenay at Baie-Sainte-Marguerite puts you steps from the beluga observation deck. Camping Tadoussac (about 210 km away) has 193 sites with panoramic St. Lawrence views. Book Sépaq parks through their official reservation portal as soon as the winter booking window opens, because Quebec construction holiday weeks in late July sell out fast.
sepaq.com/pq/sagWhen is the best time to visit Saguenay in an RV?
The sweet spot for a Saguenay RV trip is mid-June through mid-September, when daytime highs sit between 20 and 24°C (68 to 75°F) and nights stay comfortable around 10 to 13°C (50 to 55°F). July is the warmest and busiest month, while late August and early September offer fewer bugs, fewer crowds, and the first hints of legendary Quebec fall colour along the fjord cliffs. The frost-free window runs roughly from May 22 to September 23, so plan accordingly. Insider tip: visit in late July or early August to catch beluga mothers and calves in Baie-Sainte-Marguerite, when warm fjord waters draw them in close to shore.
weather.gc.ca/en/location/index.html?coords=48.427,-71.063Is renting an RV in Saguenay a good idea for first-timers?
Yes, first time renting an RV in Saguenay is genuinely easier than most people expect. Every RVezy host provides a full walkthrough at pickup, covering propane, water, the dump system, the awning, and how to level the rig, so you're never sent off guessing. Roads in the Saguenay region are well-maintained and scenic, with Route 170 looping Lac Saint-Jean offering wide shoulders and gentle grades that are perfect for beginners. You can also message hosts directly through any listing to ask questions before booking. Pro tip: choose a smaller Class C motorhome or campervan rental Saguenay for your first trip, then graduate to a Class A once you're comfortable.
saaq.gouv.qc.ca/en/road-safety/modes-transportation/motor-home/what-law-saysWhat happens if my RV breaks down in the Saguenay region?
Don't sweat it, 24/7 roadside assistance is included with every RV rental in Saguenay booked through RVezy. One call connects you with help for flat tires, dead batteries, lockouts, fuel delivery, and towing, even on remote stretches like Route 172 between Sacré-Coeur and L'Anse-Saint-Jean. Your host is also just a message away through the RVezy app and is often the fastest resource for quirks specific to their RV. Pro tip: download offline maps before leaving Saguenay's city centre, because cell service can be spotty along the fjord cliffs and inside the Réserve faunique des Laurentides on the drive south.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat are the best RV road trips from Saguenay?
An RV road trip from Saguenay opens up some of Quebec's most jaw-dropping scenery. The classic Route du Fjord loop (about 380 km) hugs both shores of the Saguenay Fjord through L'Anse-Saint-Jean, Petit-Saguenay, Tadoussac, and Sainte-Rose-du-Nord. The Lac Saint-Jean Véloroute des Bleuets circuit (about 240 km) takes you through blueberry country, Mashteuiatsh, and Val-Jalbert ghost village. From Saguenay, you're also 210 km from Quebec City and 130 km from the Charlevoix UNESCO Biosphere. Cross-border travel into the United States is allowed with most RVezy hosts, but travel to Mexico isn't covered. Always confirm cross-border permission with your host before booking long-distance trips.
bonjourquebec.com/en/discover-quebec/regions/saguenay-lac-saint-jeanWhat kind of fuel mileage should I budget for around Saguenay?
Budgeting fuel for your Saguenay RV trip is straightforward once you know the basics. Class B campervans average 18 to 22 mpg (about 11 to 13 L/100 km), Class C motorhomes typically run 10 to 14 mpg (17 to 24 L/100 km), and larger Class A rigs land around 7 to 10 mpg (24 to 34 L/100 km). Gas prices in the Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean region usually sit a few cents above the Quebec provincial average, so fill up in Chicoutimi or Jonquière before heading into remote areas like Monts-Valin or up Route 172 toward Sacré-Cœur where stations are sparse. Pro tip: pair fuel stops with grocery runs at IGA or Maxi to save trips.
rncan.gc.ca/our-natural-resources/energy-sources-distribution/clean-fossil-fuels/pricing/fuel-focus/4604How far in advance should I book a campground near Saguenay?
For the best campgrounds near Saguenay, book as early as possible, ideally three to six months ahead for July and August stays. Sépaq opens reservations for the following summer at Parc national du Fjord-du-Saguenay, Parc national de la Pointe-Taillon, and Parc national des Monts-Valin in early November, and prime waterfront sites at Baie-Éternité and Camp-de-Touage–Les-Îles vanish within days. Private parks like Camping Belley take bookings year-round and tend to be a bit easier to land last-minute. Pro tip: if your dream site is full, use Sépaq's online portal to check daily for cancellations, especially in the two weeks before your trip.
sepaq.com/en/reservation/campingWhat are driving conditions like around Saguenay?
Driving an RV around Saguenay is genuinely pleasant in summer, with well-maintained roads, light traffic outside the cities of Chicoutimi and Jonquière, and stunning scenery in every direction. Route 175 through the Réserve faunique des Laurentides between Quebec City and Saguenay is a divided highway with moose-crossing warnings, so drive cautiously at dawn and dusk. Route 172 along the fjord's north shore has some winding sections with steep grades near Sainte-Rose-du-Nord, taken slow and steady in a motorhome. From mid-November through April, snow and ice are constant companions, so most RV rentals operate June through October. Pro tip: keep headlights on at all times, it's the law in Quebec.
transports.gouv.qc.ca/en/road-network/Pages/road-conditions.aspxWhat amenities can I expect at campgrounds near Saguenay?
Campgrounds near Saguenay offer a great mix of comfort and wilderness. Full-service private parks like Camping Belley and Camping Jonquière provide 30/50-amp electric, fresh water, sewer hookups, hot showers, laundry, and Wi-Fi near the office. Sépaq sites at Pointe-Taillon and Fjord-du-Saguenay typically offer two-service (electric and water) or unserviced sites with shared washrooms and showers. Dump stations are available at most paid campgrounds, plus there's a free public dump station behind the church in Sacré-Cœur if you're exiting Baie-Sainte-Marguerite. Fill potable water at park registration centres. Pro tip: pack a 25-foot drinking-water hose and a 30-to-15-amp adapter so you're ready for any site.
sepaq.com/pq/sag/services.dot?language_id=1What features will my Saguenay RV rental include?
Your motorhome rental Saguenay will come ready for adventure. Expect a queen or double bed, a dinette and/or sofa that converts to extra sleeping space, a kitchen with fridge, stove, microwave, sink, and basic cookware, plus a bathroom with toilet and shower. Most rigs include a furnace and air conditioning, propane for cooking and heat, a 12V house battery, and seatbelts for every passenger. Many hosts add Wi-Fi hotspots, generators, outdoor BBQs, camping chairs, and bedding or kitchen kits, sometimes included and sometimes as add-ons. Each listing details exactly what's provided. Pro tip: ask about a bug screen or extra propane tank, summer evenings near Lac Saint-Jean and the fjord can bring black flies in June and chilly nights even in July.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Saguenay%2C%20QuebecWhat add-ons and pickup options are available for RV rentals in Saguenay?
Hosts offering RV rental in Saguenay typically provide a menu of useful add-ons: kitchen kits, bedding packages, outdoor chairs and tables, bike racks, paddleboard or kayak carriers, generators, Wi-Fi hotspots, and pet cleaning fees if you're bringing a dog. Delivery and setup at popular campgrounds like Pointe-Taillon, Mont-Valin, or Camping Tadoussac is a common option, often with a per-kilometre fee. Pickup is usually at the host's home base in Chicoutimi, Jonquière, La Baie, or Alma. Each listing's pricing page itemizes every add-on and the mileage policy upfront. Pro tip: bundling delivery, setup, and a kitchen kit costs a bit more but makes a family RV trip Saguenay feel like a true vacation from the moment you arrive.
tourismesaguenaylacsaintjean.com/enHow do payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment for your RV rental in Saguenay is handled securely through the RVezy platform, no cash, no awkward parking-lot transactions. You pay when you book using a credit card, and the security deposit is handled separately from your booking payment. Each host sets a refundable security deposit (typically a few hundred to over a thousand dollars depending on the RV), which is pre-authorized before pickup and released after the rig comes back in good shape. To avoid issues, take time-stamped photos of the RV inside and out at pickup and dropoff, follow the host's fuel and cleaning instructions, and report any concerns through the RVezy messaging system right away.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksCan I rent an RV in Saguenay during winter?
Winter RV camping in Saguenay is a real Nordic adventure for the right traveller. Some RVezy hosts offer four-season rigs with heated holding tanks, insulated underbellies, and reliable furnace setups designed for Quebec's brutal cold, where January lows regularly hit -25°C (-13°F) and can dip below -30°C. Plan to stay at campgrounds with shore power (full hookups are essential to keep things from freezing), and consider parking near Mont-Valin for snowshoeing or Valinouët ski hill. Most standard rentals operate June through October, so winter availability is limited and worth booking early. Pro tip: pair a winter RV trip with the Fjord-en-Glace ice fishing village on the Baie des Ha! Ha! for a truly unique Saguenay memory.
