This was my first time renting a trailer to camp in. I couldn’t have picked a better host! He was extremely communicative and though we had no problems I know if I did we would have been taken care of right away! I can wait to rent this trailer again. The delivery and set up was also done by them and it went smooth and quick! Highly recommend!

2024 Winnebago Class C
This Winnebago was awesome and turned out to be perfect for our trip! It was easy to handle on the road, easy to setup, and so nice and comfortable inside. We had four adults, one toddler, and a small dog for a weekend trip and had plenty of room for everyone. The RV is packed with everything you might need, with plenty of space for your own belongings. Joe was so helpful and was available when we had to trouble shoot the power (total user error). This was our first time RV dry camping and we were setup with every thing we needed. Great experience, we hope to rent this RV again in the future!

Horsetail Fall

That is Horsetail Fall in Yosemite National Park, a winter phenomenon that draws photographers and dreamers when skies stay clear and the fall is running. Arriving in your own RV means a warm kitchen, your own bed, and a flexible base for cold evenings after the walk back from the viewing area. Frequently asked questions about renting an RV in Groveland, CA

How much does it cost to rent an RV in Groveland, CA?

RV rental in Groveland is one of the most affordable ways to experience Yosemite, often beating hotel prices inside the park. Travel trailers typically start around $90 to $150 per night, while Class C motorhomes generally run $175 to $275 per night, and luxury Class A coaches can land between $275 and $450. To find a cheap RV rental in Groveland, look at midweek dates outside the June through August peak, filter by price on RVezy, and consider a smaller campervan if it's just two of you. Pro tip: booking 2 to 3 months ahead for summer Yosemite trips locks in the best inventory and pricing before the rush hits.

What license do I need to rent an RV in Groveland?

Good news: your everyday driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Groveland. California does not require a special RV license or commercial endorsement for the motorhomes and trailers available on RVezy, even for the bigger Class A rigs that handle Highway 120 just fine. You'll need to be 25 or older, and RVezy verifies your ID right inside the platform during booking, so there's no extra DMV trip. Visiting from abroad? Bring your home country license plus an International Driving Permit (usually under $20 from your local auto association). Most first-time renters are surprised how little paperwork stands between them and the Big Oak Flat entrance.

Is RV rental insurance and roadside help included for my Groveland trip?

Every RVezy booking in Groveland comes with a renter protection plan and 24/7 roadside assistance built in, so you're covered before you ever turn the key. The protection plan helps shield you against most accidental damage to the RV, and you choose your level of coverage during checkout, not the host. That means if a rock kicks up on Highway 120 or you misjudge a turn into a Yosemite Pines campsite, you've got real financial peace of mind. It isn't traditional auto insurance, but for the vast majority of renters it removes the biggest worry about renting a stranger's RV. Pick the tier that matches your comfort level and hit the road relaxed.

What if my plans change? Can I cancel my Groveland RV rental?

Yes, booking is low risk because RVezy sets the cancellation policy (not the individual host), and there's a money-back grace period right after you book so you can lock in your dates with confidence. Refund eligibility depends on factors like how far out you cancel from your trip start date. If a host cancels on you, RVezy refunds you in full or offers RVezy credits with no penalty to you. The full details are on the RVezy help center, but the takeaway is simple: you're not stuck the moment you click confirm. Pro tip: book early to grab the best Yosemite-gateway rigs, knowing you have flexibility if plans shift.

Can I bring my dog on a Groveland RV trip?

Absolutely, a pet-friendly RV rental in Groveland is easy to find on RVezy, just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter and you'll see hosts who welcome dogs (and sometimes cats). Groveland is a great pet basecamp because Stanislaus National Forest trails right outside town allow leashed dogs, and Thousand Trails Yosemite Lakes and Yosemite Pines RV Resort both accept pets at their sites. Just remember Yosemite National Park itself only allows pets in paved areas, parking lots, and a few specific trails, so plan dog hikes in the national forest instead. Pro tip: pack a tie-out, a collapsible water bowl, and book a shaded site, since summer afternoons in Groveland regularly hit the 90s.

Can the RV be delivered to my campsite near Yosemite?

Yes, RV delivery in Groveland is one of the most popular options on RVezy, and it's a game-changer if it's your first time renting an RV. Many local hosts will drive the rig straight to Thousand Trails Yosemite Lakes, Yosemite Pines RV Resort, Yosemite Ridge Resort, or even a private property along Highway 120, then level it, hook up water and power, and walk you through every system. You skip the stress of towing or maneuvering a 30-foot motorhome through Sierra foothill curves, and you arrive to a vacation that's already set up. Filter by Delivery on RVezy, message the host with your campground name, and confirm the delivery fee upfront so there are no surprises.

How many miles do I get, and how far can I drive from Groveland?

Most Groveland hosts include a generous daily mileage allowance (commonly 100 to 150 free miles per day), and some offer RV rental with unlimited mileage, perfect for a longer Sierra loop. From Groveland you're roughly 24 miles from the Big Oak Flat entrance to Yosemite, 75 miles to Bass Lake, 140 miles to Lake Tahoe's south shore, and about 140 miles to San Francisco for a coastal detour. If you're planning a bigger RV road trip from Groveland down to Sequoia or up to Lassen, message the host before booking to ask about an unlimited or extended mileage package. Pro tip: map your route first, then pick the mileage tier that fits, you'll usually save money.

Where are the best campgrounds near Groveland for RV camping?

Groveland is stacked with excellent options for RV camping in Groveland and is the closest full-hookup hub to Yosemite's western gate. Top picks include Thousand Trails Yosemite Lakes on Hardin Flat Road (5 miles from the Big Oak Flat entrance, full hookups, riverfront, open year-round), Yosemite Pines RV Resort (22 miles from the gate, family-friendly with a pool and Conestoga wagons next door), Yosemite Ridge Resort along Highway 120, and Dimond O Campground in Stanislaus National Forest for a more rustic feel. Inside Yosemite, Hodgdon Meadow and Crane Flat take RVs but have no hookups. Pro tip: reserve summer dates the moment your trip is locked in, the best Groveland sites fill 4 to 6 months out.

When is the best time of year for a Groveland RV trip?

Groveland is genuinely a four-season destination, but the sweet spots are late April to early June and September to mid-October, when daytime highs sit in the comfortable 65 to 80 degree range, waterfalls in Yosemite roar (spring) or fall colors light up the foothills (autumn), and crowds are noticeably lighter. July and August deliver classic warm Sierra weather (highs in the 90s, nights in the 50s) and full access to Tioga Road, but expect peak Yosemite traffic. Winter (November through March) brings snow, quiet trails, and chain controls on Highway 120, an underrated time if you love a peaceful, snowy escape. Pro tip: shoulder-season RV rentals in Groveland are often 20 to 30 percent cheaper.

I've never driven an RV before, will I be okay in Groveland?

You've got this, first time renting an RV in Groveland is more common than you'd think, and the local setup is built for beginners. Every RVezy host gives you a hands-on walkthrough at pickup covering the generator, slide-outs, propane, water, and waste tanks, and you can text them throughout your trip with questions. Highway 120 from Groveland up to the Big Oak Flat entrance has good shoulders and steady grades (no white-knuckle switchbacks like Tioga Road in summer), so it's a forgiving stretch to find your rhythm. If you're nervous, choose a Class C or campervan rather than a 35-foot Class A, and book delivery so the host parks and levels it for you. Confidence comes fast.

What happens if the RV breaks down on my Yosemite trip?

You're never on your own. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, so a flat tire on Highway 120, a dead battery at Hodgdon Meadow, or a cranky generator at Yosemite Lakes RV Resort is a phone call away from help. Your host is also a direct lifeline for quick troubleshooting (a lot of issues are simple resets), and RVezy customer support is reachable before, during, and after your trip. Save the roadside number in your phone before you leave Groveland because cell service drops once you're past Buck Meadows and inside the park. Pro tip: do a quick walk-around each morning, catching small things early keeps small problems from becoming trip-stoppers.

Can I take the RV out of California or across the Mexico border?

Most RVezy hosts in Groveland are happy to let you explore widely within the U.S., so popular RV road trips from Groveland into Nevada (Reno, Tahoe, Vegas), Oregon's Crater Lake, or even Arizona's Grand Canyon are usually on the table, just confirm with the host through the listing message before booking. Travel into Mexico is not allowed on RVezy rentals because insurance and protection coverage do not extend across that border. Trips into Canada may be possible with specific host approval and additional paperwork, so message first. Pro tip: share your full route with the host upfront, they often have insider tips on the best fuel stops and overnight spots along the way.

What kind of fuel mileage and gas budget should I plan for?

Budgeting fuel for your Groveland RV trip is straightforward once you know your rig: campervans (Class B) typically get 18 to 22 mpg, Class C motorhomes 8 to 12 mpg, and Class A coaches 6 to 9 mpg. California gas in the Groveland area usually runs 50 cents to a dollar more per gallon than the national average, and prices climb the closer you get to Yosemite, so fill up at the Chevron or 76 in downtown Groveland before heading east on Highway 120. For a typical 4-day, 400-mile loop in a Class C, plan around $200 to $300 in fuel. Pro tip: travel trailers towed by your own truck are often the cheapest option overall.

How far in advance should I book a campground near Groveland?

For summer (June through August) and any weekend with good weather, book your Groveland-area campground 4 to 6 months ahead, sites at Hodgdon Meadow and Crane Flat inside Yosemite open on Recreation.gov on a 5-month rolling window and disappear within minutes. Thousand Trails Yosemite Lakes and Yosemite Pines RV Resort take direct reservations and also fill fast for July weekends. Spring and fall trips can often be booked 3 to 6 weeks out, and winter sites at Yosemite Lakes are usually available with just a few days' notice. Pro tip: lock your RVezy rental and your campsite the same week, that way your dates, rig, and spot all line up perfectly.

What are the local driving conditions like around Groveland?

Driving around Groveland is genuinely scenic and very manageable in an RV, with a few smart things to know. Highway 120 climbs from about 2,800 feet in town up to the Big Oak Flat entrance with steady grades, banked curves, and good signage, no extreme switchbacks until you get past Crane Flat onto Tioga Road in summer. From November through April, expect possible chain controls (R1, R2, or R3) on Highway 120; California law requires you to carry chains in the vehicle whenever a chain control area is posted, even with all-wheel drive. Watch for deer at dawn and dusk, and pull over at one of the named vista turnouts rather than the road shoulder. Pro tip: call (209) 372-0200 the morning of for live road status.
roads.dot.ca.gov/?roadnumber=120

What amenities do Groveland-area campgrounds offer?

Most Groveland-area RV parks are fully equipped, so you can plug in and relax. Thousand Trails Yosemite Lakes offers around 254 full hookup sites (30 and 50 amp), a camp store, gas station, laundry, hot showers, and limited Wi-Fi, plus an on-site dump station. Yosemite Pines RV Resort has full hookups, a seasonal pool, and a deli. For dump and freshwater fills on the road, you'll find a station at Yosemite Lakes RV Resort and another inside the park at Hodgdon Meadow (summer only) and Upper Pines in Yosemite Valley. Pro tip: top off freshwater and dump before heading east of Buck Meadows, services thin out fast once you cross into the national forest stretch of Highway 120.
nps.gov/yose/planyourvisit/rv.htm

What's actually inside the RVs available in Groveland?

Groveland rentals come surprisingly well-equipped, real homes on wheels, not stripped-down rigs. Most Class C motorhome rentals in Groveland sleep 4 to 7 with a queen bed, bunk or convertible dinette, full kitchen (stove, microwave, fridge, sink), wet bath with toilet and shower, roof AC, propane furnace, and seatbelts for travel. Many include a generator for off-grid camping, a TV, and Wi-Fi or cell boosters. Campervan rental Groveland options are more compact (sleeping 2 to 4) but include a kitchenette, cozy bed, and easy parking for Yosemite Valley day trips. Each listing on RVezy spells out exactly what's included, so you can match the rig to your group. Pro tip: ask the host about extras like camp chairs and a Yosemite parking-friendly size.
nps.gov/yose/planyourvisit/campingrv.htm

What add-ons and pickup options should I expect?

Groveland hosts make it easy to customize your trip. Common add-ons include linens and bedding packages ($30 to $75), kitchen kits, generator hours, propane refills, camp chairs and tables, bikes, kayaks, and pet cleaning fees. Pickup is usually at the host's home in or near Groveland, but many offer delivery to Yosemite Lakes RV Resort, Yosemite Pines, or even Pine Mountain Lake for a flat fee. Mileage policies vary by listing (often 100 free miles per day with extra miles around 35 cents each), and all of this shows clearly on the RVezy listing page before you book. Pro tip: bundle delivery, setup, and a propane fill, the few dollars saves a half day of errands and gets you to the campfire sooner.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Groveland,California

How does payment and the security deposit work?

Payment for your RV rental in Groveland is simple and handled entirely through RVezy, no cash or side deals with the host. You pay your booking total securely through the platform with a credit or debit card, and a refundable security deposit is held (typically $500 to $1,500 depending on the rig) to cover things like missing equipment or extra cleaning. As long as you return the RV in good shape, on time, with the agreed fuel and tank levels, your deposit is released back to your card after the trip. To avoid any deductions, take photos at pickup and dropoff, follow the host's checkout list, and dump the tanks if that's required. Pro tip: keep gas and dump receipts handy as proof.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-works

Can I rent an RV in Groveland during winter for a snowy Yosemite trip?

Yes, winter RV rental in Groveland is absolutely possible and quietly one of the best-kept secrets for visiting Yosemite without crowds. Many local hosts keep their motorhomes available year-round, and Thousand Trails Yosemite Lakes and Yosemite Pines stay open all winter with electric and water hookups (water lines are sometimes winterized at the coldest sites, so confirm). Look for rigs with a heated underbelly, enclosed tanks, and a propane furnace, message the host to verify, and always travel with tire chains because Highway 120 chain controls (R1 to R3) kick in regularly from November through March. Pro tip: pair your stay with snowshoeing at Crane Flat or a quiet morning at frozen Hetch Hetchy, magical and far less crowded than summer.

What are the best road trip destinations from Groveland?

Groveland is a launchpad for some of California's greatest drives. Top RV road trips from Groveland include Yosemite Valley (24 miles, under an hour to El Capitan and Half Dome), Hetch Hetchy Reservoir (about 40 miles, an underrated, crowd-free corner of the park), Pinecrest Lake on Highway 108 (50 miles, alpine swimming and easy lakeside trails), Calaveras Big Trees State Park (75 miles, giant sequoias without the Yosemite traffic), and Lake Tahoe's south shore (about 140 miles for a 2 to 3 day extension). In summer, add Tioga Road and Mono Lake (about 100 miles east) once the pass opens, usually by Memorial Day. Pro tip: stop in the historic Iron Door Saloon in downtown Groveland (open since 1852) on your way out, it's the perfect kickoff to a Sierra adventure.
