RV & camper rentals in Hazard, KY

An RV rental in Hazard is one of the most affordable ways to explore eastern Kentucky. On RVezy, travel trailers typically start around $80 to $130 per night, Class C motorhomes generally run about $175 to $250, and larger Class A coaches average $200 and up. Because hosts set their own pricing, you can find more budget-friendly options by traveling midweek or outside peak fall-foliage weekends in October. Pro tip: book a towable trailer and ask the host to deliver and set it up at Carr Creek State Park, you will save on fuel and skip the learning curve of driving a big rig through the Appalachian hills.

Good news: a regular driver license is all you need to rent an RV in Hazard. Kentucky does not require a Commercial Driver License (CDL) or a special endorsement for personal-use recreational vehicles under 26,000 pounds GVWR, and virtually every RV on RVezy is below that threshold. To book on RVezy, approved drivers are generally 25 or older and verified through the platform, so there is no extra paperwork at pickup. First time renting an RV? Start with a Class C motorhome or a smaller travel trailer, they drive much like an oversized pickup and handle the curves of KY-15 well.

You can relax knowing every RV rental in Hazard booked through RVezy includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance. The plan helps cover physical damage to the RV during your trip, a real weight off your shoulders when you are winding through the mountains around Hazard. During checkout you (not the host) choose the coverage level that fits you, with options ranging from standard to premium. It is not traditional auto insurance, but it delivers genuine peace of mind. Pro tip: choose a higher tier if you are heading toward Red River Gorge, the narrow forest roads are gorgeous but tight.

Booking is low-risk. RVezy (not individual hosts) sets the cancellation policy that applies to every reservation, and there is a money-back grace period right after you book so you can lock in your dates with confidence. After that window, your refund depends on how far out from your trip you cancel. RVezy also has specific provisions for situations like natural disasters and severe weather, which can matter in eastern Kentucky where flash flooding has affected the region in recent years. You will see the full policy on RVezy before you confirm. Pro tip: book early for fall colors in late October, then relax knowing the grace period has your back.

Just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy and you'll see motorhomes and trailers where Fido is welcome. Most state parks nearby, including Buckhorn Lake State Resort Park and Carr Creek State Park, allow leashed pets in their campgrounds, and the trails around Red River Gorge are dog-friendly too. Pro tip: message the host before booking to confirm any pet fee and bring a long lead, the swimming beach at Carr Creek is one of the best spots in Perry County to let your pup cool off after a hike.

Yes, and it is the easiest way to start your trip. Many RVezy hosts offer RV delivery in Hazard, meaning they will drive the rig to your campground, level it, hook up water and power, and walk you through every system before handing over the keys. Popular drop-off spots include Carr Creek State Park (about 15 miles southeast on KY-15) and Buckhorn Lake State Resort Park (about 25 miles west). Filter for Delivery on the RVezy search page to see which listings include it. Pro tip: ask about a fully stocked setup with linens and a filled propane tank, you will arrive to a turn-key campsite.

You've got incredible range from Hazard. Each host on RVezy sets a daily mileage allowance (commonly 100 to 150 free miles per day), and some listings offer RV rental with unlimited mileage if you message the host to ask. From Hazard you can reach Red River Gorge in about 90 minutes (75 miles north), Cumberland Gap National Historical Park in roughly 2 hours (80 miles south), the Great Smoky Mountains in about 3.5 hours, and Mammoth Cave National Park in around 4 hours. Pro tip: an RV road trip from Hazard through the Mountain Parkway to Red River Gorge and back is the classic Kentucky loop, and it easily fits a standard mileage allowance.

You're spoiled for choice. The best campgrounds near Hazard include Carr Creek State Park (15 miles southeast on KY-15 South, featuring the longest sand beach in Kentucky's state park system and full-hookup sites on Carr Fork Lake), Buckhorn Lake State Resort Park (about 25 miles west with electric and water hookups overlooking the lake), Rocky Top Campground & RV Park (close to town with 35 full-hookup sites), and Daniel Boone Campground near Red River Gorge for a scenic overnight on your way out. Pro tip: Carr Creek's campground accepts reservations up to 12 months in advance through the Kentucky State Parks system, book early for summer weekends.

Hazard rewards visitors nearly year-round, but the sweet spot is mid-April through late October. Spring (April-May) brings highs in the 65-75°F range with blooming dogwoods through the Cumberland Plateau. Summer (June-August) runs 82-85°F with warm nights perfect for campfires, though July is the hottest month and humidity climbs. The real showstopper is fall: from late September through the third week of October, the Appalachian hardwoods around Hazard explode into red, orange, and gold. Winters are short but can dip into the 20s with occasional snow. Pro tip: book your fall RV camping Hazard trip by July, peak foliage weekends at Carr Creek and Natural Bridge sell out months ahead.

You're going to do great, and you won't be left guessing. Every RVezy host gives you a hands-on orientation at pickup, walking you through driving tips, hookups, slide-outs, the generator, and dump procedures before you leave. For a first time renting an RV around Hazard, choose a Class C motorhome or a 20-25 foot travel trailer, they handle the winding stretches of KY-15 and the Hal Rogers Parkway easily. The roads here are mountainous with switchbacks and 7% grades in places, so plan shorter driving days. Pro tip: pick up before noon and aim to arrive at camp with daylight to spare, Appalachian back roads get genuinely dark.

You are covered around the clock. Every motorhome rental in Hazard booked on RVezy includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan, so if you get a flat on the Hal Rogers Parkway, run into battery issues at Carr Creek, or have a slide-out that will not retract, help is one phone call away. Your host is also reachable through RVezy messaging for quick questions about the systems they know best, and RVezy customer support is available before, during, and after your trip. Pro tip: save the roadside assistance number to your phone before leaving pickup, cell service can get spotty deep in the Cumberland Plateau hollers.

Absolutely, your RV rental Kentucky booking is built for road-trip adventures. Most hosts welcome interstate travel through Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia, Ohio, and beyond, just message them through the listing before you book to confirm your itinerary. Travel into Canada may be allowed by some hosts (insurance permitting), but travel into Mexico is not permitted on any RVezy rental because the protection package doesn't extend there. Popular multi-state routes include Hazard to the Great Smoky Mountains (3.5 hours), to Asheville, NC (4 hours), or up to Hocking Hills, Ohio (4 hours). Pro tip: bring your itinerary into the conversation early, hosts love helping plan a great trip.

Plan smart and you'll keep fuel costs reasonable. In the mountains around Hazard, expect a Class C motorhome to get 8-10 miles per gallon (MPG), a Class A around 6-8 MPG, a campervan rental Hazard (Class B) closer to 14-18 MPG, and a tow vehicle pulling a travel trailer about 10-12 MPG. Kentucky gas prices typically run slightly below the national average, and there are plenty of large truck-friendly stations along the Hal Rogers Parkway and Mountain Parkway. Pro tip: top off in Hazard before heading into Letcher or Knott County, fuel stations get sparse on KY-15 South toward Carr Creek, and diesel is even harder to find in the smaller communities.

For peace of mind, reserve 2-3 months ahead for summer weekends and 4-6 months ahead for October foliage weekends. Carr Creek State Park and Buckhorn Lake State Resort Park both use the Kentucky State Parks reservation system (kentuckystateparks.reserveamerica.com), with a 12-month booking window and a 1-night weekday / 2-night weekend minimum. Federal campgrounds in Daniel Boone National Forest like Koomer Ridge book through Recreation.gov on a 6-month rolling window. Pro tip: midweek arrivals (Sunday-Wednesday) at Carr Creek are often wide open even in summer, and you'll snag a lakefront site that books out instantly on Fridays.

Hazard sits in the heart of the Appalachian Mountains at about 1,200 feet elevation, so expect winding two-lane roads, 6-7% grades, and short tunnels on KY-15 and the Hal Rogers Parkway. The good news: speeds are moderate, traffic is light, and the scenery is spectacular. Watch for occasional coal trucks on KY-80 and morning fog in the hollers, which usually burns off by 10 a.m. Summer thunderstorms can be intense; flash flooding has affected the region, so check forecasts before crossing low-water bridges. Pro tip: avoid the narrowest sections of Nada Tunnel (only 12 feet wide and 13 feet tall) en route to Red River Gorge if you're driving anything taller than a small Class C, take KY-77's bypass instead.

You'll find a full range of hookups close to home. Carr Creek State Park offers 39 sites with 20/30/50-amp electric and water, plus a centralized dump station, bathhouse with hot showers, and laundry. Buckhorn Lake State Resort Park has electric and water sites with a dump station. Rocky Top Campground offers full hookups including sewer at each site. Most Daniel Boone National Forest campgrounds (like Koomer Ridge) are no-hookup with vault toilets and seasonal water April 1 through October 31. Pro tip: fill fresh water in Hazard before camping at any forest service site, and remember Kentucky State Parks prohibits importing out-of-state firewood to protect against the emerald ash borer.

More than you'd expect. RVs on RVezy in the Hazard area typically come with comfortable beds (often sleeping 4-8), a kitchen with stove, fridge, microwave, and sink, a private bathroom with shower and toilet, air conditioning, heat, and seatbelts for every passenger. Many include a generator for boondocking, an outdoor awning, a TV, and Wi-Fi hotspots, especially helpful since cell service can drop in the deeper hollers around Letcher and Knott counties. Each listing shows exactly what's included. Pro tip: filter by Sleeps and add-ons like generator and bike racks to match your family RV trip Hazard plans perfectly, kids love an RV with a bunk-house layout for Carr Creek lake weekends.

Common add-ons include linens and towel kits ($25-$50), camping chairs and outdoor tables ($15-$30), generators ($25-$40 per day if not included), bike racks, kayaks, and propane refills. Pickup is usually at the host's address, but many also offer delivery and setup for a flat fee or per-mile rate. Mileage policies vary by listing, you'll see the daily allowance and the per-mile overage rate clearly on every listing. Pro tip: bundle delivery with linens and a generator and you've basically got a turnkey glamping setup at Carr Creek, perfect for first-timers who want to skip every learning curve.

Payment is straightforward and secure. You pay entirely through RVezy at booking using a credit or debit card, never directly to the host. A security deposit is held separately from your booking payment (typically as a pre-authorization on your card a few days before pickup) and is released after your trip as long as the RV comes back in good shape with no traffic violations or missed cleaning fees. Deposit amounts vary by listing and are clearly shown before you book. Pro tip: do a quick walk-around video with your host at both pickup and drop-off in the Hazard area, it documents the RV condition and helps the deposit release go smoothly.
