Frequently asked questions about renting an RV in Hyattsville, MD

How much does it cost to rent an RV in Hyattsville, MD?

RV rental in Hyattsville starts at roughly $100 to $185 per night for travel trailers and pop-ups, while Class C motorhomes typically run $200 to $300 per night depending on size and season. Hosts set their own rates, so you'll spot some genuinely cheap RV rental Hyattsville options if you book midweek or travel in March or November when DC-area campgrounds quiet down. Use the price filter on RVezy to sort by budget, and stack savings by choosing a towable rather than a motorhome. Pro tip: book at least 8 weeks ahead of Cherry Blossom Festival (late March to early April), when nearby rigs near the National Mall vanish fast.

Do I need a special license to rent an RV in Hyattsville?

Good news: a regular driver's license is all you need for almost every RV rental in Hyattsville, MD. Maryland only requires a non-commercial Class B license for RVs with a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) over 26,001 pounds, which is heavier than the vast majority of Class B campervans, Class C motorhomes, travel trailers, and fifth wheels on RVezy. You'll need to be 25 or older with a valid license, and ID verification happens right inside the platform during booking. If you're visiting from outside the U.S., grab an International Driving Permit (IDP) before your trip. Then it's a quick host walkthrough at pickup and you're rolling toward the Beltway.

What protection is included with my Hyattsville RV rental?

Every RV rental in Hyattsville, MD comes with a renter protection plan and 24/7 roadside assistance built into your booking, so you can hit I-95 or the Baltimore-Washington Parkway with real peace of mind. You choose your coverage tier at checkout (not the host), and the plan provides meaningful financial protection against most accidental damage to the RV. Roadside support is available around the clock for flat tires, lockouts, jump-starts, fuel delivery, or towing. Pro tip: snap a few photos of the RV during your walkthrough at pickup and dropoff so the post-trip review is a breeze and you and your host stay aligned.

What is the cancellation policy if my plans change?

You're not locked in. RVezy sets the cancellation policy across the platform (hosts don't), and it includes a grace-period window where you can cancel for a full refund shortly after booking. After that, the refund amount depends on how far out from your trip you cancel. You can review the exact terms on the RVezy Help Center before you confirm. If a host ever cancels on you, RVezy refunds you or provides travel credits so your Hyattsville RV trip can still happen. Pro tip: book early to lock in the best Hyattsville RVs, knowing you have a built-in safety net if life shifts.

Can I bring my dog on a Hyattsville RV trip?

Absolutely, plenty of hosts offer pet-friendly RV rental Hyattsville options for you and your pup. Just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy to see rigs that welcome four-legged co-pilots; some hosts add a small cleaning fee, which you'll see upfront. Once you're on the road, dogs are welcome at Greenbelt Park (leashed, six-foot max) on all 10 miles of trail, and Cherry Hill Park in College Park has a dedicated off-leash dog run plus pet wash station. Magruder Park right in Hyattsville has a fenced dog area for a quick stretch before pickup. Pro tip: message the host before booking to flag your dog's size so they can recommend the best layout.

Can the RV be delivered to my campsite or driveway?

Yes, RV delivery Hyattsville is one of the most popular options on the platform, and it's a game-changer if you're a first-time renter or just don't want to navigate a motorhome through DC-area traffic. Many local hosts will deliver and set up the RV at Cherry Hill Park, Greenbelt Park, Adventure Bound Washington DC, or even your own driveway in Hyattsville, College Park, or Riverdale. They'll level the rig, hook up power and water at the campground, and walk you through every system. Filter by Delivery on RVezy to see options, and message the host for an exact delivery quote. Pro tip: delivery to Cherry Hill (about 7 miles north) is usually the most affordable option.
nps.gov/gree/planyourvisit/directions.htm

How many miles do I get with my rental and what road trips are doable?

Most Hyattsville hosts offer generous daily mileage allowances, and a growing number list RV rental with unlimited mileage, which is perfect for a longer RV road trip from Hyattsville. You'll see the mileage policy and any overage fee right on the listing before you book. From Hyattsville you're roughly 90 miles to Shenandoah National Park, 140 miles to Assateague Island National Seashore (wild ponies on the beach), 175 miles to Harpers Ferry, and about 200 miles to Virginia Beach. Pro tip: if you're plotting a one-way loop through Skyline Drive and back, choose unlimited mileage upfront so you can take the scenic detours guilt-free.

Where are the best campgrounds near Hyattsville to park my RV?

You've got fantastic choices for RV camping Hyattsville within 30 minutes of town. Cherry Hill Park in College Park (about 7 miles north) is the closest full-hookup resort, with pool, splash pad, mini-golf, and even a shuttle to the DC Metro. Greenbelt Park Campground (National Park Service, 10 miles from the Washington Monument) offers 172 wooded sites at $20/night, paved pads, and a dump station, though no hookups. Washington DC / Capitol KOA Holiday in Millersville and Adventure Bound Camping Resorts - Washington DC round out the top picks. Pro tip: Greenbelt sites under 35 feet book fast on Recreation.gov six months out, especially around the Cherry Blossom Festival and July 4th fireworks.

When is the best time of year for a Hyattsville RV trip?

Mid-April through June and September through mid-October are hands-down the sweet spots for an RV rental in Maryland. Daytime highs sit in the comfortable 65 to 80°F range, humidity is manageable, and you'll catch either cherry blossoms and azaleas in spring or brilliant oak and maple foliage at Greenbelt Park in fall. July and August get muggy (highs near 89°F with high humidity), but campground AC makes it doable and you'll find lower midweek rates. Winters dip to the upper 20s with occasional snow, but Greenbelt and Cherry Hill stay open year-round. Pro tip: book a late-March rig to catch peak cherry blossom bloom along the Tidal Basin, only 10 miles away.

I've never rented an RV before, how do I know I won't be in over my head?

You're in great hands, first time renting an RV is exactly what RVezy is built for. Every host gives you a hands-on orientation at pickup, walking you through the generator, water hookups, slide-outs, dump procedure, and dashboard quirks. You can also message hosts before booking to ask anything; most happily share tips on driving the Capital Beltway or routes that dodge low DC underpasses. If you want to skip city driving entirely, choose Delivery so the RV arrives ready to go at your campground. Pro tip: pick a 22 to 25-foot Class C for your first trip. It drives much like a large van and fits comfortably in Greenbelt Park's D Loop.
nps.gov/gree/planyourvisit/campground.htm

What happens if the RV breaks down during my trip?

You're never stranded. Every Hyattsville booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan, covering flat tires, dead batteries, lockouts, fuel delivery, and towing. One quick call connects you with a dispatcher who arranges service wherever you are, whether you're on I-95 near Baltimore, climbing Skyline Drive, or beach-bound on US-50 to Ocean City. Your host is also a phone call or message away for vehicle-specific questions like how a particular slide-out retracts. Pro tip: save the roadside assistance number to your phone before you leave Hyattsville, and snap a photo of the RV's VIN and license plate. It speeds up dispatch when you need help most.

Can I take my Hyattsville RV across state lines or into Canada?

Yes, interstate travel is welcome on most RVezy rentals, so a road trip from Hyattsville to Virginia Beach, the Outer Banks, Niagara Falls, or even up to Acadia National Park is completely doable. Cross-border travel into Canada may be allowed depending on the host and the protection plan; confirm with your host through the listing before booking so trip permissions can be updated. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because insurance coverage doesn't extend there. Popular multi-state loops from Hyattsville include the Blue Ridge Parkway (Virginia/North Carolina) and the New England coast. Pro tip: a 4 to 7-day window gives you enough time for a true Shenandoah and Harpers Ferry loop without rushing.

What kind of fuel mileage should I plan for and what does gas cost around Hyattsville?

Budget realistically and you'll be golden. Class C motorhomes around Hyattsville average 8 to 12 MPG on gasoline, Class B campervans get 16 to 22 MPG (often diesel), and tow vehicles pulling travel trailers land around 10 to 14 MPG. Maryland regular unleaded typically runs a bit above the national average, so figure roughly $3.20 to $3.70 per gallon at stations along Route 1 or Kenilworth Avenue. For a 300-mile weekend loop in a Class C, plan around $90 to $120 in fuel. Pro tip: fill up at the Costco in Beltsville or the Sam's Club in Lanham before leaving town. They consistently beat in-DC pricing by 20 to 40 cents a gallon.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/

How far in advance should I book a campground near Hyattsville?

Book early and you'll have your pick of the best campgrounds near Hyattsville. Greenbelt Park Campground opens reservations on a rolling six-month window through Recreation.gov, and peak weekends (Cherry Blossom Festival, Memorial Day, July 4th, and fall foliage in October) often book up the day the window opens. Cherry Hill Park takes reservations directly and fills 2 to 3 months out for summer weekends. Maryland state parks like Patapsco Valley use the Maryland State Parks reservation system and open up to 12 months ahead. Pro tip: if you're targeting July 4th fireworks on the National Mall, secure a Cherry Hill or Greenbelt site the moment that six-month window opens; it's the single hottest weekend of the year.
recreation.gov/camping/campgrounds/232466

What are local driving conditions like around Hyattsville?

Hyattsville sits right inside the Capital Beltway (I-495), so the smart move is to plan your departure outside rush hour (avoid 6:30 to 9:30 AM and 3:30 to 7:00 PM weekdays). Once you're past the Beltway, driving an RV in Maryland is genuinely easy: I-95, US-50, and US-301 are wide, well-maintained, and RV-friendly. Watch for the Baltimore-Washington Parkway, which prohibits commercial vehicles but allows personal RVs, and avoid Rock Creek Parkway and the George Washington Parkway entirely since they ban RVs. Several DC tunnels (Memorial, Roosevelt) have height limits under 10'10". Pro tip: pickup or accept delivery on a Saturday morning before 9 AM. Beltway traffic is at its lightest and you'll glide out to the campground stress-free.
roads.maryland.gov/Index.aspx

What amenities should I expect at campgrounds near Hyattsville?

You'll find a great range of campground experiences within a short drive. Cherry Hill Park in College Park offers full hookups (water, sewer, 30/50-amp electric), Wi-Fi, a pool and splash pad, laundry, propane refills, and a dump station. Greenbelt Park has no hookups but provides flush toilets, hot showers, drinking water spigots, and a free dump station near the campground exit. Adventure Bound Washington DC offers full hookups and a pool. Most regional parks have at least water fill stations and dump access. Pro tip: top off fresh water before leaving Cherry Hill or Greenbelt; the next reliable RV-friendly fill on the way to Shenandoah is at the Front Royal KOA, about 75 miles west.
recreation.gov/camping/campgrounds/232474

What's included inside the RV itself?

You'll be surprised how comfortably equipped a motorhome rental Hyattsville really is. Most rigs on RVezy come stocked with a full kitchen (fridge, stove, microwave, sink, cookware, dishes, utensils), a private bathroom with toilet and shower, queen or king beds, dinette and convertible sleeping areas, air conditioning, furnace, and a hot water heater. Many also include a TV, Bluetooth speakers, outdoor chairs, and a power awning. Each listing has a complete amenities checklist, so you'll know before you click Book whether bedding, generator hours, Wi-Fi hotspot, or a BBQ are included or available as add-ons. Pro tip: for a DC-area trip with sticky July humidity, prioritize listings with a 30-amp or 50-amp shore power setup so the AC purrs all night.
energy.gov/energysaver/air-conditioning

What add-ons and pickup options should I look for when I rent an RV in Hyattsville?

Hosts love making your trip easier, and add-ons are where it shows. Popular extras in the Hyattsville area include linen and bedding kits ($25 to $75), kitchen prep packages, generators ($25 to $50/day), portable Wi-Fi hotspots, propane refills, bike racks, camp chairs and tables, and even pre-stocked s'mores kits. For pickup, you can meet the host at their location in Hyattsville, College Park, Bowie, or Beltsville, or pay for delivery to your campground. Each listing spells out mileage allowance, generator-hour limits, and any extras clearly upfront. Pro tip: if you're heading to a no-hookup site like Greenbelt Park, add the generator package; it's the difference between a chilly night and a cozy one.
nps.gov/gree/planyourvisit/campground.htm

How does payment and the security deposit work?

Payment is refreshingly simple. You pay securely through RVezy with a credit or debit card at the time of booking, with no cash changing hands between you and the host. A refundable security deposit is held separately (the amount is shown on every listing before you confirm) and released back to your card after your trip wraps up, assuming the RV comes back in the same condition it left. The renter protection plan handles most accidental damage, so the deposit really is just a small safety net. Pro tip: do a thorough walkthrough photo set at pickup and dropoff (interior, exterior, tanks, mileage). It's the easiest way to ensure your full deposit returns quickly.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-works

Can I rent an RV in Hyattsville during the winter?

Yes, winter RV rental in Hyattsville is absolutely available and can be magical. Greenbelt Park Campground and Cherry Hill Park both stay open year-round, and you'll often find lower nightly rates from December through February. Look for listings on RVezy that mention heated holding tanks, enclosed underbellies, and a strong furnace; message the host to confirm the rig is winter-ready since Hyattsville sees overnight lows around 27 degrees F and the occasional snowstorm. Plug into 30-amp shore power wherever possible to keep the heat running without draining batteries. Pro tip: a winter visit to the Smithsonian museums (all free, all about 10 miles away) plus a cozy heated RV at Cherry Hill is one of DC's best-kept secrets.
