🌄 Our First RV Adventure—10 Days of Fun & Freedom! - This was our very first RV vacation, and while we were a little hesitant at first, Bill made the entire experience smooth and enjoyable from start to finish. He was incredibly helpful—available before, during, and even after our trip to answer questions and offer support. His thorough walkthrough before we hit the road gave us confidence, especially with tips on what to do in different situations. We took the RV for 10 days from South Florida to the mountains of Maryland, stopping at six different campgrounds and even plugging in at my sister’s and in-laws’ homes for a few nights. The RV had everything we needed and was in great shape—clean, well-equipped, and surprisingly easy to drive. We returned it with just a minor hubcap issue and no other problems, which felt like a blessing after such a big trip. We had an absolute blast and would highly recommend this RV to anyone looking for a reliable, comfortable, and fun way to travel. Thanks again, Bill!

Gary and his wife made sure that we would have a great trip. It was super easy to hook it up and the camp grounds. It drove great and was easier than expected and got even better gas mileage than we expected. I will most definitely be booking with Gary again in the future!

Frequently asked questions about renting an RV in Potomac, MD

How much does it cost to rent an RV in Potomac, MD?

RV rental in Potomac, MD is more affordable than most travelers expect. On RVezy, pop-up campers and small travel trailers generally start around $75 to $125 per night, Class C motorhomes run roughly $150 to $250 per night, and larger Class A motorhomes range from $250 to $400 per night. Do I need a special license to rent an RV in Potomac, Maryland?

Good news: a standard driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Potomac for nearly every rig on RVezy. The Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration (MVA) only requires a non-commercial Class B license for personal RVs with a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) over 26,001 pounds, and the vast majority of Class B campervans, Class C motorhomes, travel trailers and fifth wheels listed on RVezy fall well under that threshold. You'll need to be 25 or older with a valid license, and RVezy verifies your ID securely through the platform during booking. Visiting from abroad? Pick up an International Driving Permit before you fly in and you're ready to roll.

What if I need to cancel my Potomac RV rental?

Plans change, and booking an RV rental in Potomac, MD is lower risk than many travelers realize. RVezy sets the cancellation policy (not individual hosts), and there is a money-back grace period right after booking so you are not locked in the moment you confirm. Refund eligibility after the grace period depends on how far in advance you cancel and the policy tier shown at checkout. If a host cancels, RVezy refunds your booking or provides travel credit. If life happens, contact RVezy support and the team handles the cancellation directly so you do not have to negotiate with your host.

What are the best campgrounds near Potomac, MD?

You have great options for RV camping near Potomac. Top picks include Greenbelt Park Campground (a National Park Service site about 25 miles east with 172 wooded sites and a dump station, roughly 12 miles from the National Mall), Cherry Hill Park in College Park (full-hookup resort with pool and shuttle access toward DC), Little Bennett Regional Park in Clarksburg (electric hookups, open spring through fall), and Brunswick Family Campground on the Potomac River about 40 miles upstream. For a quick overnight along the C&O Canal, Swains Lock hiker-biker site offers first-come, first-served primitive camping just minutes from Potomac village. Reserve Greenbelt and Cherry Hill early, summer weekends fill up fast.

When is the best time of year for an RV trip from Potomac?

Spring and fall are the sweet spots for an RV trip from Potomac. April and May bring 60 to 75°F days, blooming dogwoods, and the famous Cherry Blossom peak in nearby Washington, DC. September and October deliver crisp 55 to 75°F afternoons and brilliant foliage along Skyline Drive and the C&O Canal, easily the most photogenic stretch of the year. Summer (June to August) is warm and humid with highs in the upper 80s and frequent afternoon thunderstorms, so book RVs with strong air conditioning. Winters dip into the 25 to 45°F range with occasional snow; fewer campgrounds operate, but Cherry Hill Park and Greenbelt stay open year-round for adventurous off-season travelers.

I have never rented an RV before. Will I actually be able to handle this?

Yes, and most first-time renters in Potomac are surprised how quickly it clicks. Every RVezy host provides a hands-on orientation at pickup that covers driving, leveling, hookups, the awning, the toilet, and the propane system, usually 45 to 60 minutes long, so you leave knowing exactly how everything works. If you are nervous about driving in the DC metro, choose a smaller Class B campervan or travel trailer, or book a host who offers delivery so you can skip the highway altogether. You can also message hosts before booking, and RVezy support is one tap away 24/7 throughout your trip.

What happens if something goes wrong on the road?

You are never on your own. Every RV rental in Potomac, MD on RVezy includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, so a flat tire on I-270, a dead battery near Sugarloaf Mountain, or a tow needed near Frederick is one phone call away. The roadside team can dispatch tire service, jump-starts, fuel delivery, lockout help, and towing to the nearest qualified service center. For mechanical questions or appliance hiccups (a fussy fridge or a stuck slide-out), message your host through the RVezy app; most respond quickly and know their rig inside out. Save the RVezy support number to your phone before pickup and relax.

Can I take my Potomac RV rental across state lines or into Canada?

Yes, crossing state lines is a regular part of any great RV road trip from Potomac. You are right in the middle of the Mid-Atlantic, so guests routinely drive into Virginia (Shenandoah, Williamsburg, Virginia Beach), West Virginia (Harpers Ferry just 30 miles away), Pennsylvania (Gettysburg, Lancaster Amish country), and the Delaware beaches, and the included protection plan follows you throughout the United States. Cross-border trips into Canada depend on the host's policy, so message them before booking to confirm. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because the protection coverage does not extend there.

What should I budget for fuel on an RV trip in Maryland?

Fuel is the biggest variable cost, so it's worth a quick estimate up front. Maryland's average regular gas price hovered around $3.80 to $3.90 per gallon in early 2026 (Washington-area stations tend to be the most expensive in the state), and diesel runs higher. Class B campervans typically deliver 18 to 22 miles per gallon (MPG), Class C motorhomes 8 to 12 MPG, and Class A motorhomes 7 to 10 MPG; travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle. For a weekend trip from Potomac to Shenandoah and back (about 200 miles), budget $60 to $120 in fuel for a Class C. Pro tip: fill up in Frederick or Hagerstown where prices typically run 10 to 15 cents cheaper per gallon.

How far in advance should I book a campground near Potomac?

Earlier is better, especially for summer and fall weekends. Maryland State Parks open reservations up to 12 months ahead through parkreservations.maryland.gov, and popular spots like Cunningham Falls and Greenbrier sell out fast for Memorial Day, July 4th, and October leaf-peeping weekends. Greenbelt Park (the closest NPS campground to Potomac) takes bookings six months out via Recreation.gov, and Cherry Hill Park in College Park opens its calendar a full year in advance. For C&O Canal hiker-biker sites like Swains Lock, no reservation needed, they're first-come, first-served and free. Insider tip: midweek arrivals (Sunday through Wednesday) are dramatically easier to book and often quieter, even at the most popular parks.
parkreservations.maryland.gov/

What are driving conditions like around Potomac and the DC metro?

With a little planning, driving your RV around Potomac is very manageable. The Capital Beltway (I-495) and I-270 hit heavy stop-and-go traffic between 6:30 to 9:30 AM and 3:30 to 7:00 PM on weekdays, so aim to roll out midmorning or after 7 PM. Avoid the George Washington Parkway, Rock Creek Parkway, Clara Barton Parkway, and Baltimore-Washington Parkway entirely; they're scenic but ban commercial-style vehicles and have low bridges (some under 10 feet). Stick to I-270, I-495, I-70, and US-15 where RVs are welcome. If big-city driving feels intimidating, request RV delivery in Potomac from your host so the rig meets you at the campground, problem solved.

Where can I park overnight in an RV around Potomac?

Knowing where to park an RV in Potomac saves you headaches. Montgomery County prohibits RV parking on public roadways for more than 18 hours (and never overnight on most residential streets), so plan to overnight at a campground or RV park rather than curbside. Great legal options nearby include Cherry Hill Park in College Park, Greenbelt Park, and Little Bennett Regional Park in Clarksburg. For travel days, many Cabela's, Cracker Barrel, and Walmart locations along I-270 and I-70 (call ahead to confirm) allow one-night RV stays. The Maryland Welcome Centers permit short rests but not overnight stays. When in doubt, your host can recommend trusted overnight spots near your route.

What amenities will I find at campgrounds near Potomac?

Campgrounds around Potomac range from full-hookup resorts to rustic riverfront spots. Cherry Hill Park in College Park offers 30/50-amp electric, water, sewer, Wi-Fi, a pool, dog park, and shuttle access toward DC. Little Bennett Regional Park has electric hookups, hot showers, and a dump station. Greenbelt Park is primitive (no hookups) but has flush toilets, drinking water, showers, and a centrally located dump station. Many KOAs along I-70 and I-95 offer pay-per-use dump stations. Bring a 25-foot drinking-water hose, a 30-to-50-amp adapter, and disposable gloves for dumping; many RVezy hosts include these supplies with the rental.
nps.gov/gree/planyourvisit/campground.htm

What features and amenities come standard in a Potomac RV rental?

You will be impressed by how livable a modern motorhome rental in Potomac feels. Most RVs on RVezy come with a queen or king bed, convertible dinette or sofa beds, a full kitchen with fridge, stovetop, microwave, sink, and cookware, a wet bath or full bathroom with hot water, air conditioning, furnace heat, and seatbelts for every traveling passenger. Larger Class A and Class C rigs often add a generator, outdoor TV, and exterior speakers; campervan rentals near Potomac are nimble and easy to maneuver for DC sightseeing. Wi-Fi and cellular boosters vary by listing, so check the amenities section before booking and confirm with the host if streaming a Nationals game is non-negotiable.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Potomac,%20Maryland

What add-ons and extras can I get with my rental?

Add-ons make your trip easier and are often the best part of renting from a real owner. Popular options on Potomac RV rentals include bedding and linen packages, kitchen kits with pots, pans, and dishes, generator use beyond included hours, portable grills, bike racks, camping chairs, outdoor mats, and pet-cleaning fees if applicable. Hosts also set their own mileage policies (some include unlimited miles, others charge a per-mile fee over the daily allowance). Pickup and dropoff times are listed on each rental, and many hosts in Potomac will deliver the RV to your campground for a per-mile fee, a great option for first-time renters.

How do payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?

Payment for your RV rental in Maryland is simple and secure: everything runs through the RVezy platform, so you never hand cash to a host. You pay the rental total (plus any chosen add-ons and the protection plan) at booking using a credit or debit card. A refundable security deposit is held separately on your card before pickup; the exact amount is shown on each listing and typically ranges from $500 to $1,500 depending on the rig. As long as you return the RV on time, undamaged, and with the agreed fuel and waste-tank levels, the hold is released after your trip. Take date-stamped photos at pickup and dropoff to keep everything smooth.
