Kansas City is unlike anywhere else, with its unique take on two of America's most beloved inventions, jazz and barbecue. Missouri's biggest city boasts critically-acclaimed eateries and low-lit, late-night jazz clubs, making KC ideal for a weekend getaway with a loved one. When you're not chowing down or tapping your feet, you can enjoy top family-friendly attractions like the Kansas City Zoo, Worlds of Fun, and Country Club Plaza.
The weather changes from snow to 80-degree heat in Kansas City, so there's a lot to consider when planning a road trip. The best time to rent an RV in Kansas City is in the late summer or early fall. While the weather in fall isn't quite as warm as in spring or mid-summer, temperatures are still in the mid-70s, and you'll avoid the height of spring storms. Some of KC's best festivals take place in late summer and fall, including the American Royal World Series of Barbecue and Art on the Plaza.

You'll find several RV campgrounds in Kansas City where you can get a good night's rest after a long day on the road. Campers on a family road trip should stay at Worlds of Fun Village. This campground is conveniently located next to the Worlds of Fun theme park, which is sure to add some extra excitement for the kids in your crew. Sites come with full hookups and 30- and 50-amp electricity. During your stay, you can relax by the on-site pool or plan a barbecue and watch the rollercoasters from afar. Amenities around camp include Wi-Fi access, a convenience store, and showers.
If you'd rather not camp next to an amusement park, consider Blue Springs Campground. Located 17 miles southeast of KC, this campground rests on the edge of the tranquil 720-acre Blue Springs Lake. Sites come with full or partial hookups that allow 50-amp electricity. This campground is ideal for getting outdoors, with Blue Spring Lake providing swimming, boating, and fishing opportunities. Amenities are standard and include showers, restrooms, and laundry facilities.
Another popular lakeside campground to check out is the Longview Campground. This RV park is located 20 miles south of Kansas City on the shores of the 930-acre Longview Lake. Sites come equipped with full or partial hookups and 50-amp electricity. When you're not exploring Kansas City, you can take a lakeside stroll or go windsurfing on Longview Lake. Home comforts are basic and include showers and restrooms.

Do you want to take your Kansas City RV rental for a spin around the city? You'll be glad to hear that KC is surprisingly easy to get around and ranks among the least congested major cities in the country. If you're looking for somewhere to park your rig, consider Arrowhead Stadium or Worlds of Fun. Kansas City also provides a citywide bus service and free streetcar rides if you want to take public transport.
Kansas City offers several excursions that'll please the kids in your crew, like the Kansas City Zoo. Covering over 200 acres and home to around 1,700 critters from across the world, the Kansas City Zoo is one of the best zoos in the Midwest. Highlights from the zoo include mighty African elephants, adorable black-footed cats, and intelligent Bornean orangutans. The zoo also organizes festive events, so ensure you check what's on before you visit.
If you have a few thrill-seekers in the crew, spend the day at Worlds of Fun. A different continent inspires each zone at this theme park, so you'll feel like you're traveling around the world. There are over 40 rides to try, including the 200-foot-tall Mamba roller coaster and the Patriot inverted coaster. Too hot for a day at a theme park? Head next door to the Oceans of Fun waterpark to cool off.
There are several beautiful state parks near KC, and history buffs won't want to miss out on Lewis and Clark State Park. This state park is located just under an hour north of Kansas City and consists of serene woodlands around an oxbow lake. The park takes its name from explorers Lewis and Clark, who are believed to have discovered the park's lake during their 1804 expedition. Lewis and Clark State Park is a bird watcher’s paradise, with great blue herons, eagles, and snowy egrets spotted along the lake.
