Top notch experience! Kyle and his camper are both first class. The camper itself is gorgeous- plenty of room for my wife and I, daughter, son in law and grandson. This is a first class rig packed with all the goodies. Having 2 bathrooms was a big plus with 4 adults! We liked that it was chock full of cleaning supplies- Swiffer, cordless vac, etc. we could use daily just to spruce up. As far as Kyle goes- fantastic communicator, not only on drop off day but also leading up to the rental. A great experience all and all and we are looking forward to booking this camper for next year!

Frequently asked questions about renting an RV in Mexico, NY

How much does it cost to rent an RV in Mexico, NY?

An RV rental in Mexico, NY usually runs between $90 and $275 per night, depending on whether you choose a compact campervan, a family-sized travel trailer, or a fully loaded Class A motorhome. Because Mexico sits on Lake Ontario's eastern shore and pulls in salmon anglers, beachgoers, and Pulaski-bound fishermen, late September through October (the famous Salmon River run) and July-August book up first and price highest. For a cheap RV rental in Mexico, NY, target mid-week pickups in June or early September, filter by smaller travel trailers, and look for hosts offering free local delivery so you skip fuel costs to the campground. Pro tip: bundling 5+ nights often unlocks weekly discounts hosts set themselves.

What license do I need to rent an RV in Mexico, NY?

Good news: your standard New York (or home-state) Class D driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Mexico, NY. No commercial license, no special RV endorsement, no test required, even for Class A motorhomes under 26,000 pounds. You'll need to be 25 or older to book on RVezy, and you'll verify your ID through the platform during checkout, which takes just a few minutes. Visiting from outside the US? Bring your home license plus an International Driving Permit (usually under $20 from your local auto club). That's it. Most first-time renters are surprised how quickly they go from booking to driving away.

Is my RV rental in Mexico, NY protected if something goes wrong?

Yes, every RV rental in Mexico, NY booked through RVezy comes with a renter protection plan and 24/7 roadside assistance built into your reservation. During checkout you choose your coverage level (RVezy sets the tiered protection plans, not the host), which covers most accidental physical damage to the RV. That means if you clip a low branch on County Route 16 or get a flat heading up to Pulaski for salmon season, you are not on the hook alone. It gives you real peace of mind so you can focus on the trip, not the what-ifs.

What happens if I need to cancel my RV trip from Mexico, NY?

You have flexibility. RVezy (not the individual host) sets the cancellation policy that applies to every booking, and it includes a grace period after booking where you can cancel for a full refund. After that, your refund depends on how close you are to your trip start date, and there are accommodations for unexpected events like severe lake-effect storms. If the host ever cancels on you, RVezy provides a refund or travel credit. You will see the exact terms during checkout before you pay, so booking your Mexico, NY RV trip is low-risk and you can lock in that prime October salmon-run weekend with confidence.

Can the RV be delivered to my campsite in Mexico, NY?

Yes, RV delivery in Mexico, NY is one of the most popular options on RVezy, especially for first-timers who would rather not drive a 30-foot motorhome down Route 104. Many local hosts will tow or drive the RV right to Selkirk Shores State Park, a private park in the Mexico area, or your own driveway, level it, hook up power and water, and walk you through every system before they leave. That means you show up with groceries and a swimsuit. Use the Delivery filter on RVezy to see who delivers in your area and check the host's delivery radius and fee in the listing.

When is the best time to visit Mexico, NY in an RV?

Late May through mid-October is prime RV camping season in Mexico, NY, with peak weather running mid-June through August when daytime highs sit in the upper 70s to low 80s and Lake Ontario beaches come alive. September and early October are the local insider's pick: cooler 60s-70s days, fewer crowds, the world-famous salmon and steelhead runs on the Salmon River in Pulaski, and Tug Hill foliage exploding in red and gold. Most campgrounds, including Selkirk Shores State Park, run their full season from mid-May to mid-October. Skip late October through April for traditional camping, as the Lake Ontario snow belt drops well over 100 inches of snow on the Mexico area most winters.

You will be just fine, even if it is your first time renting an RV. Mexico, NY is a small town with wide rural roads, light traffic, and easy access to I-81 and Route 104, far less intimidating than navigating a city. Every RVezy host gives you a thorough walkthrough at pickup: how to level, hook up power, dump tanks, run the awning, and operate the propane systems. No question is too basic. Pro tip: book a delivered RV at Selkirk Shores or a private park for your first trip, so all the driving is done by the host and you just relax. Most first-timers tell us their second trip feels like second nature.

What are the driving conditions like around Mexico, NY?

Driving an RV around Mexico, NY is genuinely easy most of the year. Route 104, I-81, and County Route 16 are wide, well-maintained, and lightly trafficked compared to downstate New York. The main thing to know: Mexico sits squarely in the Lake Ontario snow belt and racks up around 100+ inches of snow each winter, with lake-effect bands that can drop a foot in a few hours from November through March. From May through October, conditions are excellent. Watch for deer at dawn and dusk on rural roads, and use lower gears on the rolling hills around Tug Hill. Pro tip: check 511ny.org for real-time road conditions before you head out.

Cell service is generally good throughout Oswego County, but Wi-Fi at campgrounds varies. Pro tip: top off your fresh water tank before leaving the host's driveway, since some Mexico-area state park sites have you fill at a central station rather than at the pad.

How do payments and the security deposit work for an RV rental in Mexico, NY?

Payment is simple and secure. You pay through the RVezy platform with a credit or debit card, never directly to the host, so your transaction is protected from start to finish. A refundable security deposit (typically $500-$1,500 depending on the RV) is pre-authorized on your card before pickup and released after the host confirms the RV came back in the same shape it left. To avoid issues, do a thorough walkaround video with the host at pickup, follow the mileage and generator hour limits in your listing, and return with the fuel and propane levels you started with. Easy as that.

Is winter RV camping possible in Mexico, NY?

Winter RV camping in Mexico, NY is an adventure for the well-prepared. Most local campgrounds, including Selkirk Shores State Park and private parks in the Mexico area, close from late October through mid-May because the Lake Ontario snow belt regularly buries the area in well over 100 inches of snow and temperatures can plunge below zero. If you are chasing the December-March steelhead run on the Salmon River or want to snowmobile Tug Hill's extensive trail network, look for four-season RV rentals in Mexico, NY with heated holding tanks, enclosed and insulated underbellies, and 30-amp shore power compatibility. Confirm winterization features with your host directly. Pro tip: use skirting for serious cold snaps.
