2022 Cruiser RV Travel Trailer
My wife and I were very pleased with our first rental through RVezy. Both of the host's explained everything about the trailer and made the experience even better. My wife and I chose to pickup the trailer from the host's residence and transport the trailer to our campsite. We have a 2017 Ram 2500 and it pulled it with ease. The trailer had no issues during transport to and from the site, tracked nicely with zero sway or seesaw motion. Once at the campsite it was a 15 minute setup from start to finish. The only complaint I had was having no leveling ball as we were in a more remote dirt campsite with a couple of rocks the trailer was fairly level. All in all I was super impressed and my family had a great time.

RV was delivered and setup as requested. Apple maps is not recommended for county roads, use Google maps. Kris did a wonderful job explaining how everything worked to me since I'm not familiar with RVs.

When is the best time to take an RV trip from Grapeland?

The sweet spot for a Grapeland RV trip is mid-March through May and again from late September through early November, when daytime highs sit comfortably in the 70s and 80s and the Piney Woods are at their most beautiful. Summers in Houston County get hot, with July and August highs around 94 to 96°F and heat-index readings that can climb above 100°F, so you'll want a rig with strong air conditioning. Winters are mild (highs in the upper 50s), making December and January surprisingly viable for snowbird-style trips. I've never rented an RV before. Will I be okay driving in Grapeland?

First time renting an RV? Grapeland is actually one of the friendliest places in Texas to learn. The roads around town (US-287, FM-227, SH-19) are wide, straight, and lightly trafficked, with no mountain grades and no big-city congestion to worry about. Every RVezy host gives you a full walkthrough at pickup covering propane, slide-outs, water systems, and dump procedures, and you'll have 24/7 roadside assistance in your pocket. Pro tip: if you're truly nervous, choose a Class B campervan or small travel trailer with delivery so the host parks and levels it for you, and you just enjoy the Piney Woods.

What kind of fuel mileage and gas budget should I plan for?

Fuel is one of the easier parts of budgeting a Grapeland RV trip. Expect roughly 8 to 10 MPG for a Class A, 10 to 14 MPG for a Class C, 15 to 20 MPG for a Class B campervan, and 12 to 16 MPG for a truck towing a travel trailer. Texas gas prices typically run well below the national average (often $2.80 to $3.20 per gallon in Houston County in 2025), which makes RV camping in Grapeland a real value. Pro tip: fill up at the larger truck stops in Palestine or Crockett before heading into the national forest, where stations are sparse and pricier.

How far in advance should I book a campground near Grapeland?

For Texas state parks like Mission Tejas, reserve 3 to 5 months ahead through the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department reservation system, especially for spring weekends and Thanksgiving week when sites vanish fast. National forest sites at Ratcliff Lake book through Recreation.gov and typically open 6 months in advance. Private parks like Salmon Lake Park can often be grabbed 2 to 4 weeks out, except during their April and November bluegrass festivals when you'll want to book in January. Pro tip: if state-park spots are gone, search private parks in Crockett or Palestine, they're often less than 30 minutes away and have full hookups.

What are driving conditions like around Grapeland?

Driving around Grapeland is refreshingly relaxed compared to most of Texas. US-287 is the main artery, a wide, well-maintained four-lane highway that runs right through town toward Palestine to the north and Crockett to the south. There are no mountains, no toll roads, and very little traffic outside of school zones in the morning. Watch for thunderstorms in spring (May is the rainiest month, with about 5 inches of rain) and the occasional deer at dusk on FM roads. Pro tip: if you're heading to Davy Crockett National Forest, the last few miles on FSR 511 narrow up, so take it slow in a larger Class A.
