This was our first time renting an RV as a family, so my wife and I didn’t really know what to expect. After a full weekend, I can honestly say it was a fantastic experience! The convenience of having an RV delivered and set-up with personalized instructions was exactly what we needed. The RV worked great for our family and several kids, and helped make the weekend much more enjoyable. Frequently asked questions about renting an RV in Cheney, WA
How much does it cost to rent an RV in Cheney?
RV rental in Cheney is one of the more affordable ways to explore eastern Washington. On RVezy, travel trailers typically start around $90 to $150 per night, Class C motorhomes range from roughly $175 to $275 per night, and larger Class A rigs start around $250 and up. Prices peak in July and August when Eastern Washington University events and Spokane festivals fill the calendar, so booking mid-week or in the May or September shoulder months is the easiest way to find a cheap RV rental in Cheney. Pro tip: use the price filter and sort by lowest nightly rate, then message a couple of hosts to ask about multi-night discounts. Many hosts offer them for stays of a week or longer.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Cheney%2C%20WashingtonDo I need a special license to drive an RV rental in Cheney?
Your regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Cheney. Washington State does not require a commercial driver's license (CDL) or any RV-specific endorsement for personal motorhomes and trailers under 26,000 pounds, which covers virtually every rig on RVezy. You must be at least 25 years old to be an approved driver, and ID verification is handled inside the RVezy platform when you book. Visiting from outside the US? Bring your home-country license plus an International Driving Permit (IDP). First time renting an RV? Your host will walk you through every system at pickup so you can roll out of Cheney feeling confident behind the wheel.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat protection and roadside help comes with my Cheney RV rental?
You are covered from the moment you hit the road. Every RV rental in Cheney booked through RVezy includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so a flat tire on Highway 904 or a dead battery near Turnbull National Wildlife Refuge is just a phone call away. During checkout, you choose the protection level that fits your trip, with options that cover physical damage to the RV for added peace of mind. It is not traditional auto insurance, but it is purpose-built for peer-to-peer RV rentals and handles the situations renters worry about most. That means you can focus on the wheat-field sunsets and Sprague Lake mornings instead of the what-ifs.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat if my plans change? Can I cancel my Cheney RV booking?
Plans shift, and RVezy understands that. Every booking is covered by an RVezy cancellation policy set by RVezy, not by individual hosts, which includes a grace period right after you book so you can lock in your Cheney RV trip with confidence. Exact refund amounts depend on how far out from your trip you cancel. You will see the specific terms applied to your reservation at checkout and inside your RVezy dashboard. Pro tip: book early to lock in the best rigs for Bloomsday weekend or EWU graduation, knowing the grace period has your back.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a Cheney RV trip?
Yes, and your pup will love it. Many hosts offer a pet-friendly RV rental in Cheney, and you can find them in seconds by toggling the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy. From there it is a quick drive to some truly dog-happy spots: Turnbull National Wildlife Refuge has a leashed-pet auto tour route just south of town, the Columbia Plateau Trail State Park trailhead in Cheney welcomes leashed dogs along its packed-gravel path, and Fish Lake Regional Park has shaded picnic areas perfect for a water break. Some hosts charge a small pet fee or cleaning add-on, which you will see clearly on the listing. Pro tip: message the host before booking to confirm bedding rules and you are set.
fws.gov/refuge/turnbullCan the RV be delivered to my campground or driveway in Cheney?
Yes, RV delivery in Cheney is one of the easiest ways to start your trip, especially if it is your first time renting an RV. Many RVezy hosts will drive the rig directly to popular spots like Ponderosa Falls RV Resort, Williams Lake Resort, or even your own driveway in Cheney or nearby Spokane. They will level the RV, hook up water, power, and sewer where available, and walk you through every switch and slide-out. Use the Delivery filter on RVezy to see hosts who offer it; delivery is typically priced by the mile from the host's location. Pro tip: bundling delivery with setup means you can fly into Spokane International (GEG), make the short drive to your campsite, and step straight into vacation mode.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Cheney%2C%20WashingtonHow far can I drive on a Cheney RV rental, and is unlimited mileage available?
You have plenty of room to roam. Hosts on RVezy set their own mileage policies, and you will see the daily allowance (often 100 to 150 free miles per day) plus the per-mile rate beyond that listed clearly on every Cheney listing. Some hosts even offer an RV rental with unlimited mileage, which is great if you are planning a longer RV road trip from Cheney. To put miles in perspective: Spokane is about 18 miles northeast, Coeur d'Alene, Idaho is about 50 miles east, Grand Coulee Dam is roughly 90 miles northwest, and Mount Spokane State Park is about 50 miles north. Pro tip: filter by unlimited mileage when planning multi-state loops.
wsdot.wa.gov/travel/real-time/mapWhere are the best campgrounds near Cheney for an RV trip?
You have great options nearby. The best campgrounds near Cheney mix lakeside relaxation with Inland Northwest pine forest. Ponderosa Falls RV Resort, about 5 miles north, is a Thousand Trails property with a pool and 50-amp sites. Williams Lake Resort and Klink's Williams Lake Resort, about 15 miles southwest, are family favorites for fishing and swimming. Sprague Lake Resort, roughly 30 miles west off I-90, is known for trophy trout. For dispersed BLM RV camping that locals love, head to the Fishtrap Lake Recreation Area south of I-90. Pro tip: book lakeside sites by March for July weekends, they fill fast.
blm.gov/visit/fishtrap-recreation-areaWhen is the best time of year for a Cheney RV trip?
Late May through early October is the sweet spot for RV camping in Cheney. July and August are the warmest and driest months, with average highs in the low to mid 80s F and long evenings, perfect for lake days at Williams Lake or Badger Lake. June greens up the Palouse hills with wildflowers, and September brings crisp mornings, golden wheat fields, and far fewer crowds. Winters get cold with lows in the 20s F and snowfall through the season, so many area campgrounds close from late October through April. Insider tip: aim for the second week of September when summer crowds thin and the harvest light over the Palouse is unforgettable.
weather.gov/otx/I have never driven an RV. Will I be okay renting one in Cheney?
You will be just fine, and Cheney is honestly one of the easier places in Washington to learn. Every RVezy host gives you a full walkthrough at pickup: how the slides work, where the freshwater fills, how to dump the tanks, and how to operate the awning and generator. Cheney's roads are wide, flat, and lightly trafficked compared to Seattle or Portland, so first-timers can build confidence quickly on Highway 904 or the back roads toward Medical Lake. Class C motorhomes and small travel trailers are the easiest first-time choices, and you can message any host through RVezy before booking to ask questions. Pro tip: take a slow loop through a quiet parking lot on a Sunday morning to practice turns before heading to the highway.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat happens if something breaks down during my Cheney RV trip?
Help is always close by. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance, so whether you have a flat on US-2, a dead battery near Turnbull National Wildlife Refuge, or a slide-out that will not retract at Sprague Lake, one call gets a pro dispatched to you. You can also message your host directly through the RVezy app, since they know their rig best and can often troubleshoot small issues in minutes. For anything mechanical, Spokane has many RV service shops within 20 miles of Cheney. Pro tip: take a photo of the RV's VIN, license plate, and propane shut-off at pickup, it speeds up any roadside call.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat are the best RV road trips from Cheney?
Cheney is a fantastic launchpad. An RV road trip from Cheney puts you within a tank of gas of iconic Pacific Northwest scenery. Head about 50 miles east to Coeur d'Alene, Idaho for lakeside camping. Drive 90 miles northwest to Grand Coulee Dam and Steamboat Rock State Park on Banks Lake. Loop north to the North Cascades or follow the Palouse Scenic Byway south through rolling wheat fields to Palouse Falls State Park, Washington's official state waterfall. Cross-border travel to Canada is allowed on most RVezy rentals (Mexico is not covered), so always confirm international travel with your host. Pro tip: fuel up in Cheney where prices typically run lower than in Spokane.
parks.wa.gov/find-parks/state-parks/palouse-falls-state-parkHow much will fuel cost on my Cheney RV trip?
Budgeting fuel is easier than most people expect. Class B campervans average 18 to 22 MPG, Class C motorhomes run 8 to 12 MPG, Class A rigs land around 6 to 10 MPG, and travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle. Eastern Washington gas prices typically run below Seattle's, and Cheney has competitively priced stations near the I-90 ramp. For a typical 4-night, 300-mile loop through Williams Lake, Coeur d'Alene, and Grand Coulee in a Class C, plan on roughly $120 to $180 in fuel depending on current prices. Pro tip: fill up in Cheney or Sprague before heading into the national forests where prices jump noticeably, and use apps like GasBuddy to find the cheapest stop along I-90.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Cheney?
Earlier is better, but you have options either way. For Washington State Parks like Riverside (north of Spokane) and Mount Spokane, reservations open nine months in advance through the Washington State Parks reservation system, and prime July and August weekends often sell out within hours. Private parks like Ponderosa Falls RV Resort and Klink's Williams Lake Resort typically book 2 to 4 months ahead for summer weekends. Mid-week stays and shoulder season trips in May or September are far easier and often available a week out. For spontaneous trips, the Fishtrap Lake Recreation Area's dispersed BLM sites are first-come, first-served. Pro tip: set a calendar reminder for the exact 9-month booking window at parks.wa.gov, that is how locals snag the best lakeside sites.
parks.wa.gov/reservationsWhat are driving conditions like around Cheney?
Driving an RV around Cheney is refreshingly stress-free. The terrain is gently rolling Palouse country with wide two-lane highways, light traffic, and almost no steep grades within a 30-mile radius. I-90 runs just north of town and is the main artery to Spokane (about 18 miles) and Coeur d'Alene (about 50 miles). Watch for crosswinds on the open stretches west toward Sprague, deer at dawn and dusk near Turnbull National Wildlife Refuge, and winter ice from November through March. Summer wildfire smoke can occasionally reduce visibility in August; check WSDOT's real-time map before you roll. Insider tip: avoid Highway 195 south during harvest season (late July to September) when slow-moving combines share the road, and stick to US-2 or I-90 for smoother sailing.
wsdot.wa.gov/travel/real-time/mapWhat amenities can I expect at campgrounds near Cheney?
Cheney-area campgrounds cover the full range, so you can pick the experience you want. Full-hookup parks like Ponderosa Falls RV Resort offer 30 and 50-amp power, water, sewer, Wi-Fi, laundry, and hot showers. Lakeside resorts like Williams Lake and Sprague Lake add boat launches, swim docks, and bait shops. BLM sites like Fishtrap Lake Recreation Area are more rustic with vault toilets and no hookups, perfect for self-contained rigs. Pro tip: top off your freshwater tank before heading to Fishtrap so you can dry-camp for two or three days with ease.
blm.gov/visit/fishtrap-recreation-areaWhat is inside a typical RV rental in Cheney?
More than you would think. A typical motorhome rental in Cheney listed on RVezy comes road-ready with a queen or king bed, a fully equipped kitchen (fridge, stove, microwave, sink, cookware, plates, utensils), a bathroom with toilet and shower, dinette seating that converts to extra sleeping space, air conditioning and propane heat, and seatbelted seats for travel. Many include a TV and some offer onboard Wi-Fi hotspots or a generator for off-grid stays, perfect for boondocking near Fishtrap Lake. Campervan rentals in Cheney (Class B) are more compact but still include sleeping, cooking, and often a wet bath. Pro tip: check the listing's amenity icons and ask the host to confirm linens, towels, and a starter propane tank are included so you can pack light.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Cheney%2C%20WashingtonWhat add-ons and pickup options should I know about for a Cheney rental?
Hosts make it easy to customize your trip. Popular add-ons for an RV rental in Cheney include delivery and setup, generator hours, bedding and towel packages, camp chairs and outdoor rugs, bike racks, kayaks or paddleboards (great for Williams Lake), and propane top-offs. Each fee is clearly listed on the RVezy listing before you book, with no surprises. For pickup, most Cheney hosts meet you at their home for a 30 to 45 minute walkthrough; others offer delivery directly to Spokane International Airport (GEG, about 20 minutes north), Eastern Washington University, or your campsite. Mileage policies and pet fees are also spelled out on the listing. Pro tip: bundle delivery plus a bedding package on your first trip, you arrive, unpack groceries, and you are camping in under an hour.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Cheney%2C%20WashingtonHow do payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is simple and secure. When you book an RV rental in Cheney through RVezy, you pay the trip cost through the RVezy platform by credit card, never directly to the host. A refundable security deposit is also placed as a hold on your card before your trip starts; the exact amount is shown on the listing and depends on the RV's value. As long as the rig comes back in the condition you picked it up, the hold is released after your trip. Pro tip: take time-stamped photos and a short video of the interior, exterior, and odometer at both pickup and drop-off, it is the single easiest way to keep your deposit return smooth and stress-free.
