2017 Thor Motor Coach Class A
Mark was a wonderful host. This was our first time traveling by RV and he was extremely patient and accommodating with all of our questions. The RV was clean when we picked it up, stocked with household items, such as; dishes, utensils, hand soap and toilet paper. The RV is spacious and comfortable and was the perfect "house on wheels" to travel in. We needed something that would get us up north fast because of an extremely ill family member, and this made our road time so much shorter than having to stop and get a hotel. We would highly recommend Mark as a host and would rent his RV again!

I had a great experience renting this van camper! The host was extremely friendly, accommodating, and very responsive throughout the entire rental period, making the process smooth and stress-free. The van itself is newer, clean, and impressively well-equipped — it even came with Starlink internet and a sound system, plus there were no restrictions on generator use, which was a huge bonus. I highly recommend this host to anyone considering a camper van rental and would definitely rent again if the opportunity comes up!

This was our 2nd year in a row renting the Keystone Hideout from Antonio. He was very quick to respond to any questions or issues. The RV provided our family with a great holiday week and everything was in working order. Would definitely rent from again. The RV is spacious and comfortable, easily fitting our 3 youngest children but could've fit our older 2 as well (they wanted to sleep in a tent). AC kept us cool during a hot 4th of July.

Frequently asked questions about renting an RV in Union, WA

How much does it cost to rent an RV in Union, WA?

RV rental in Union is one of the more affordable ways to experience Hood Canal and the Olympic Peninsula. Most travel trailers list for roughly $95 to $175 per night, Class C motorhomes typically run $175 to $275, and larger Class A coaches range from $250 to $400. Hosts set their own nightly rates, so you can often find a cheap RV rental in Union for midweek or shoulder-season dates in May, late September, and October. Pro tip: filter by Instant Book and bundle add-ons like camp chairs, a propane fire pit, and kayaks into one booking to save on delivery fees and make the most of Hood Canal's famous oysters and crabbing.

Do I need a special license to rent an RV in Union, WA?

Good news: a regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Union. The Washington State Department of Licensing only requires a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) for vehicles over 26,001 pounds used commercially, and virtually every RV on RVezy (Class B campervans, Class C motorhomes, travel trailers, and most Class A coaches) falls well under that limit for personal recreational use. Approved RVezy drivers are generally 25 or older with a valid license, and RVezy verifies your ID securely through the platform during booking. Visiting from abroad? An International Driving Permit paired with your home license is the easy add-on, and you're set for your Hood Canal adventure.

What protection is included with my Union, WA RV rental?

Every RV rental in Union includes an RVezy renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can focus on sunsets over the Olympic Mountains instead of worst-case scenarios. The protection plan covers damage to the vehicle during your trip, and you choose your coverage level (not the host) during checkout, so you can dial in the peace of mind that fits your trip. It provides real financial protection for renters throughout the rental period. Pro tip: take a quick walk-around video with your phone at pickup and drop-off. It's the simplest way to keep your trip stress-free from Union to Lake Cushman.

What if I need to cancel my Union, WA RV booking?

Booking your Hood Canal RV trip is low risk: RVezy (not the host) sets the cancellation policy, and there is a money-back grace period right after you book so you can lock in dates with confidence. After that window, refund amounts depend on how far out your trip is. Cancellation terms are handled platform-wide and are not displayed on individual listings. If a host cancels on you, RVezy refunds your booking or offers travel credits so you are never left stranded. Pro tip: book early for July and August (Hood Canal's prime oyster, kayak, and clamming season) so you can secure the best Union RV rentals before they fill up.

Absolutely, a pet-friendly RV rental in Union is easy to find. Just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy and you will see motorhomes, campervans, and travel trailers whose hosts welcome four-legged passengers. Once you arrive, your pup will love it: Twanoh State Park (just 8 miles east of Union) allows leashed dogs on its forested trails and on the saltwater beach, and Potlatch State Park across the canal is also leash-friendly. Lake Cushman's shoreline trails in the Olympic National Forest are open to leashed dogs too. Pro tip: message the host before booking to mention your dog's size and whether they shed, so check-in is smooth and stress-free.

Can the RV be delivered to my campsite in Union, WA?

Yes, RV delivery in Union is one of the smartest ways to start your trip, especially if it is your first time renting an RV. Many local hosts will tow or drive the rig directly to popular spots like Twanoh State Park, Potlatch State Park, Belfair State Park, or the Lake Cushman area, level it, hook up power and water, and walk you through every system before they leave. Just use the Delivery filter on RVezy and enter your destination to see real delivery fees upfront. Pro tip: book delivery to an Alderbrook-area site if you want a luxe Hood Canal weekend without ever touching a steering wheel. You can spend day one paddleboarding instead of parking.

How far can I drive on a Union, WA RV trip, and do rentals have unlimited mileage?

Most Union RV rentals include a generous daily mileage allowance (often 100 to 150 free miles per day), and you will find plenty of listings offering RV rental with unlimited mileage, perfect for a Hood Canal loop or a bigger Olympic Peninsula adventure. From Union you can easily reach Lake Cushman (about 15 miles), Staircase in Olympic National Park (about 30 miles), Hurricane Ridge in Port Angeles (about 90 miles), Mount Rainier's Nisqually entrance (about 95 miles), and Seattle via the Bremerton ferry (roughly 60 driving miles plus the ferry). Pro tip: if you are planning a longer Washington RV road trip from Union out to the coast at Kalaloch or La Push, filter for unlimited mileage upfront so you can roam freely.

Where are the best campgrounds near Union, WA?

Union sits in the sweet spot for RV camping on Hood Canal. Top picks include Twanoh State Park (just 8 miles east, with hookup sites and warm saltwater swimming), Potlatch State Park (directly across the canal with beach access and a mix of hookup and standard sites), Belfair State Park (134 sites including full-hookup options, open year-round, about 20 miles east), Lake Cushman Resort (full hookups at the gateway to Staircase in Olympic National Park), and The Waterfront at Potlatch resort (premier waterfront sites with 50-amp service). Pro tip: reserve Washington State Parks up to 9 months out at washington.goingtocamp.com, especially for summer weekends. The Hood Canal waterfront sites book up fastest.

When is the best time of year for an RV trip in Union, WA?

Union's sweet spot runs from late June through mid-September, when daytime highs sit in the comfortable 70s to low 80s, evenings cool to the low 50s, and Hood Canal rainfall is at its lowest. Late May, early June, and September are smart shoulder seasons: greener forests, fewer crowds, and the same world-class oyster harvests. Winter is wet and mild (40s and 50s) and many travel trailers and Class C rentals stay available year-round for cozy storm-watching trips. Pro tip: time your visit around the Skookum Rotary OysterFest in early October in nearby Shelton, a Hood Canal classic where campgrounds book months in advance.

I have never driven an RV before. Will I be okay around Union, WA?

You've got this. Union is one of the friendliest places in Washington for first time renting an RV: Highway 106 along Hood Canal is a mostly flat two-lane road with gentle curves and stunning water views, and Highway 101 toward Shelton and Olympia is straightforward, easy driving. Every RVezy host gives you a full walkthrough at pickup, covering propane, dump valves, leveling, the awning, and the generator, and you can message them mid-trip with questions. Pro tip: if you are nervous about backing into a site, book a pull-through at Belfair State Park or The Waterfront at Potlatch and choose a Class B campervan or smaller Class C. Your learning curve drops to almost nothing.

What happens if I have a breakdown or roadside issue during my Union RV trip?

You are covered around the clock. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance, so whether you have a flat tire on Highway 101 near Hoodsport, a dead battery at Lake Cushman, or you need a tow off Skokomish Valley Road, help is one phone call away. Your host is also reachable through the RVezy app for quick fixes like tripped breakers, water-pump questions, or propane troubleshooting, and RVezy's support team backs you up before, during, and after the trip. Pro tip: save the roadside number in your phone before you leave the host's driveway and snap a photo of your RV's VIN plate, it speeds up dispatch if you ever do need help.

Can I take my Union, WA RV rental into Canada or other states?

Cross-border and multi-state road trips are absolutely on the table from Union. Many hosts allow travel throughout Washington, Oregon, Idaho, and into British Columbia (Vancouver is roughly a 4 hour drive plus the border crossing), so a one-way ramble up to Whistler or down the Oregon Coast is doable. Always confirm travel plans with your host through the RVezy message thread before booking. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because the protection plan and insurance do not cover Mexico. Pro tip: popular RV road trip from Union routes include the Olympic Peninsula loop (Port Angeles, Forks, Lake Quinault), the Mount Rainier and Mount St. Helens circuit, and the BC ferry-to-Vancouver Island run from Port Angeles.

What should I budget for fuel on a Union, WA RV trip?

Fuel is usually the biggest variable cost, but it is manageable in Union. Expect roughly 8 to 10 MPG for a Class A, 10 to 14 MPG for a Class C motorhome, 16 to 20 MPG for a Class B campervan, and 12 to 16 MPG for the truck pulling a travel trailer or fifth wheel. Washington gas prices typically run on the higher side of the national average. The closest stations to Union are in Belfair (about 10 miles east) and Hoodsport (about 10 miles north), with often cheaper fill-ups in Shelton (about 15 miles south). Pro tip: top off in Shelton before heading up to Lake Cushman or Staircase, options thin out fast once you are inside the Olympic National Forest.

How far ahead should I book a campground near Union, WA?

For peak summer weekends on Hood Canal (mid-June through Labor Day), book your campsite the moment Washington State Parks opens its 9-month reservation window at washington.goingtocamp.com, especially for waterfront sites at Twanoh, Potlatch, and Belfair State Parks. Olympic National Forest campgrounds like Staircase and Hamma Hamma book through recreation.gov up to 6 months out. Midweek and shoulder-season stays in May, late September, and October are usually fine to grab 2 to 4 weeks ahead. Pro tip: combine your RV rental booking with your campground booking on the same day. RVezy hosts can often deliver directly to your reserved state-park site, turning logistics into a one-tap setup.
recreation.gov/camping/gateways/2725

What are driving conditions like around Union, WA?

Driving here is refreshingly mellow. Highway 106 hugs Hood Canal between Union and Belfair with low traffic and 45 to 55 mph speeds, and Highway 101 north toward Hoodsport and the Olympic Peninsula is a straightforward two-lane highway. Watch for deer at dawn and dusk near Twanoh, occasional logging trucks on Skokomish Valley Road, and steeper grades and tight switchbacks if you head up to Lake Cushman or the Mount Walker viewpoint. Winters are wet rather than icy at sea level, but mountain passes like US-12 White Pass can require chains November through March. Pro tip: check WSDOT real-time alerts before any inland or mountain detour. The Hood Canal Bridge occasionally closes for marine traffic and high winds.
wsdot.com/travel/real-time/

What amenities can I expect at campgrounds near Union, WA?

Hood Canal campgrounds run the full spectrum. Twanoh State Park offers full-hookup sites with water, sewer, and 30/50-amp electric, plus showers and a dump station. Potlatch and Belfair State Parks offer mixes of full, partial, and standard sites with dump stations, flush toilets, and potable water fills. Olympic National Forest sites at Staircase are more rustic (vault toilets, no hookups) but include drinking water in season. For dumping or filling water between trips, the dump station at Belfair State Park is open year-round for a small fee. Pro tip: ask your host whether the RV's fresh tank will be filled at pickup, most Union-area hosts top it off, saving you a stop on day one.

What is actually inside a typical RV rental in Union, WA?

You will be impressed by how dialed-in these rigs are. Most Union RV rentals (Class C motorhomes, travel trailers, and fifth wheels) sleep 4 to 8 with a queen or king bed, convertible dinette, and bunk options, and come with a full kitchen (fridge, freezer, propane stove, microwave, sink), a wet or dry bathroom with toilet and shower, climate control via furnace and air conditioning, and seatbelted travel seats. Many include a TV, Bluetooth stereo, outdoor speakers, and a propane generator. Wi-Fi is not always standard, but cellular coverage on Hood Canal is generally solid on major carriers. Pro tip: a campervan rental Union travelers love is a Class B Sprinter, perfect for two people who want easy parking and easy maneuvering.

What add-ons can I get with my motorhome rental in Union, WA?

Hosts on RVezy love stacking helpful extras onto a motorhome rental in Union. Common add-ons include linen and towel packages, fully stocked kitchen kits, propane refills, extra generator hours, bike racks, kayaks or paddleboards (perfect for Hood Canal), Starlink Wi-Fi, propane fire pits (handy during summer burn bans), and pet cleaning fees. Pickup is usually at the host's home in Union, Belfair, or Shelton, with delivery available for a per-mile fee. Mileage policies typically include 100 to 150 free miles per day with a modest per-mile fee beyond that. Pro tip: kayaks are gold here, Hood Canal is one of the calmest paddling spots in Washington.
dnr.wa.gov/Wildfires

How does payment and the security deposit work for an RV rental in Union, WA?

Payment is simple and secure: you pay through RVezy with a credit card at booking, never directly to the host. The trip cost (nightly rate, service fee, protection plan, and any add-ons) is charged when the host accepts your booking, and a refundable security deposit is pre-authorized on your card a few days before pickup, typically a few hundred to a couple thousand dollars depending on the RV. The deposit is held separately from your booking payment and is released after the trip if there is no damage, missing equipment, or excess mileage. Pro tip: do a quick walk-around video at pickup and drop-off with your host present. It is the single best way to keep your security deposit, and your Hood Canal memories, completely clean.

Can I rent an RV in Union, WA for a winter trip?

Yes, winter rentals are very much a thing on Hood Canal, and they are an underrated way to enjoy the area. Union sees mild, wet winters (typical highs in the mid-40s, lows in the 30s, rare snow at sea level), so many travel trailers and Class C motorhomes stay rentable year-round. Look for listings that mention heated and enclosed holding tanks, a working furnace, and shore-power capability for cold-weather camping. Twanoh, Potlatch, and Belfair State Parks all stay open year-round with reduced services. Pro tip: storm-watching season from November through February is magical on Hood Canal. Book a waterfront site at The Waterfront at Potlatch, fire up the furnace, and watch the weather roll in with a steaming cup of local coffee.
