Carleton-sur-Mer sits on the north shore of Chaleur Bay in Quebec's Gaspésie region, with Mont Saint-Joseph rising directly behind the town and the New Brunswick coast visible across the water. The area is anchored by Parc régional du Mont-Saint-Joseph and the Club de golf de Carleton-sur-Mer, with a beach, a bike path along the Barachois lagoon, and a small theatre and arts scene in the village core. RV travellers use the town as a southern base for Gaspé Peninsula loops along Route 132.
