Campgrounds and RV parks near Delta Junction, AK

Delta Junction sits at the official end of the Alaska Highway in Interior Alaska, roughly 100 miles southeast of Fairbanks on the Richardson Highway. The area is a common stopover for RV travellers moving between Tok and Fairbanks, with several Alaska State Parks units clustered within a 30-minute drive of town. The closest option is Delta State Recreation Site at Mile 267 of the Richardson Highway, a small wooded campground within walking distance of stores, showers, and other services in Delta Junction. About eight miles north at Mile 274.5, Big Delta State Historical Park sits on the Tanana River next to Rika's Roadhouse. Quartz Lake State Recreation Area, roughly ten miles north of town off the Richardson Highway, is the largest campground in the area and the best choice for families who want swimming, fishing, and boating on site. East of town, Clearwater State Recreation Site and the private Clearwater Lodge sit along the spring-fed Delta Clearwater River, a quieter setting favoured by anglers and paddlers.

Standard campsites at Quartz Lake State Recreation Area are first-come, first-served, with no online reservations for the campground itself. Reservations through the Alaska State Parks system on ReserveAmerica apply to the ice huts and to the two public-use cabins at Quartz Lake, the Quartz Lake Cabin and Glatfelder Cabin, which can be booked up to seven months in advance and fill early for peak summer and ice-fishing weekends. Big Delta State Historical Park operates its RV parking lot campground on a self-pay basis during the summer season, with pull-through and back-in spaces and no set RV length limit on the state park page. Delta State Recreation Site and Clearwater State Recreation Site also use self-pay kiosks and are first-come, first-served. The Ferryman Cabin at Big Delta is reservable in advance.
