Campgrounds and RV parks near Brooktrails, CA

Walk among coast redwoods at Montgomery Woods State Natural Reserve south of Brooktrails, home to groves long counted among the tallest known on Earth. Closer to base, Brooktrails Redwood Park has trails and the small Lake Emily and Lake Ada Rose, both stocked for trout fishing, plus a community golf course. Day-trip west on Highway 20 to the Mendocino Coast for Glass Beach, the Mendocino Coast Botanical Gardens, and tidepools at Russian Gulch and Van Damme state parks. East of Ukiah, Lake Mendocino offers swimming, kayaking, and bass fishing. Orr Hot Springs Resort provides clothing-optional soaking tubs, a sauna, and a spring-fed pool by reservation. Mendocino County also hosts multiple wine appellations within a short drive.

Summer is the peak season. From June through early September, days are warm and dry, redwood shade keeps midday temperatures comfortable, and inland highs commonly reach the mid-80s in July while coastal mornings stay cool and foggy. Weekend sites at private parks such as Mendocino Redwoods RV Resort and Mendocino Magic book out weeks ahead, and PG and E Eel River Area Trout Creek Campground operates only from April through September. Spring brings green hills, running creeks, and trout and steelhead activity in local streams, though rain still falls regularly through May. Fall is a strong shoulder window: October days remain mild, wineries hold harvest events, and crowds thin, though rain ramps up by November. Winter is the wet season. Annual precipitation averages around 50 inches, with most falling between October and April, and December typically the wettest month. Brief snowfall is possible at the Brooktrails elevation of about 1,400 feet, though accumulations are usually light. Several seasonal campgrounds close, and full-hookup parks remain the practical choice.

Brooktrails itself is a residential community inside a redwood forest, not a campground, so RVers stage at parks in or around Willits and Ukiah and use the area as a hub. Cell service is patchy once roads climb into the trees, and Orr Hot Springs has no cell signal on property. Roads west to the coast are winding and slow, so allow more drive time than mileage suggests, and check length limits before towing: Trout Creek Campground caps RVs at 34 feet and has no hookups or dump station. Summer fire restrictions are common across Mendocino County, so confirm campfire rules with each operator before arrival. Mornings often start foggy and cool even when afternoons turn hot, so pack layers. Bears, raccoons, and deer are active, so store food and trash securely.
