Campgrounds and RV parks near Fillmore, CA

Water recreation is the headline draw. Lake Piru supports boating, water skiing, wakeboarding, kayaking, and fishing for bass, trout, catfish, crappie, and bluegill, plus a 9-hole disc golf course, a swim beach, and a children's play area. Castaic Lake offers boating, kayaking, and hiking, biking, and equestrian trails throughout the surrounding recreation area. At Ventura Ranch KOA Holiday, families can use a zipline and ropes course, a large jumping pillow, a swimming pool, gem mining, and a labyrinth, with creek access on site. The Sunburst Railbikes run pedal-powered tours through the citrus and avocado groves between Santa Paula and Fillmore on the historic Fillmore and Western Railway line. Six Flags Magic Mountain is a short drive east via Highway 126 to Interstate 5.

The area has a Mediterranean climate with hot, dry summers and cool, wet winters. Most local campgrounds operate year-round, but demand and conditions shift sharply by season. Summer is the busiest stretch, and lakeside sites at Lake Piru and the Castaic-area parks book out well in advance for weekends and holidays. Daytime highs commonly sit in the mid 80s Fahrenheit inland, and shade and air-conditioned hookups are useful. Spring brings green hillsides, mild temperatures, and active citrus country, with lower midweek demand. Fall is the most volatile season for fire weather. Santa Ana winds typically arrive in fall and can bring Red Flag Warnings, low humidity, and strong gusts across Ventura and Los Angeles counties. Some of the most destructive Ventura County wildfires, including the Thomas and Woolsey fires, occurred in late fall. Winter is the wettest period and the coolest, with occasional storms and the lowest crowds, with February averaging the most rainfall.
