Campgrounds and RV parks near Jones Valley, CA

Jones Valley sits on the Pit River Arm of Shasta Lake in Shasta County, about 15 miles northeast of Redding inside the Shasta-Trinity National Forest. Shasta Lake sits at an elevation of 1,067 feet with 365 miles of shoreline surrounded by steep mountains covered in manzanita and evergreens, and Mount Shasta, the second-tallest mountain in the Cascade Range, is visible in the distance. The area functions as a working lake-recreation hub rather than a town, so most RV travelers base out of full-hookup parks closer to Redding and day-trip to the water. The closest private RV options are Fawndale Oaks RV Park and Mountain Gate RV Park along the I-5 corridor north of Redding, followed by Redding RV Park, Premier RV Resorts-Redding, and Green Acres RV Park in town. National Forest sites at the lake itself, including Lower Jones Valley Campground, fit smaller rigs and lack hookups. The Jones Valley Boat Ramp lies about a mile away, with the Jones Valley and Silverthorn marinas providing boat rentals and lake access nearby.

Booking depends on whether the site is private or Forest Service. Private parks near Redding, including Fawndale Oaks RV Park, Mountain Gate RV Park, Redding RV Park, Premier RV Resorts-Redding, and Green Acres RV Park, take direct reservations by phone or through their own websites and tend to fill on summer weekends and around holidays. For full-hookup sites in July and August, reserving several weeks ahead is advisable. Forest Service sites at the lake work differently. Lower Jones Valley Campground operates on a first come, first served basis, visitors are required to physically be at the campground to purchase and claim a site, and the area must be occupied the day it is paid for, with no advance payments. Payment is by Iron Ranger on site or through the Scan and Pay option in the recreation.gov app.
