Campgrounds near Kelly Ridge, California
Kelly Ridge sits on the southern shore of Lake Oroville in Butte County, just east of Oroville off Highway 162. The neighborhood is the closest community to Lake Oroville State Recreation Area, a roughly 28,450-acre park built around one of the largest reservoirs in California and the tallest earth-filled dam in the United States. RV travelers use Kelly Ridge as a base for lake recreation, foothill hiking, and visits to the Department of Water Resources visitor center perched on the ridge above the dam.
Options for RV camping cluster within a short drive. Bidwell Canyon at Lake Oroville State Recreation Area is the closest developed campground, reached via Kelly Ridge Road and Arroyo Drive. Berry Creek Rancheria RV Park and the Oroville / Feather Falls Casino KOA Journey sit a short drive southwest along Olive Highway near the casino complex. River One RV Park and River Reflections RV Park provide additional full-hookup options along the Feather River corridor closer to downtown Oroville.
Things to do near Kelly Ridge
Lake Oroville covers more than 15,000 surface acres with 167 miles of shoreline, supporting powerboating, water skiing, swimming, sailing, and fishing for largemouth and smallmouth bass, chinook salmon, catfish, and trout. The Bidwell Canyon Marina, adjacent to the campground of the same name, offers launch ramps, slip rentals, boat rentals, and a fuel dock. Hikers can connect to the Dan Beebe and Brad Freeman trails from the campground, and the Lake Oroville Visitor Center includes interpretive displays on dam construction, the State Water Project, and the Maidu people, plus a 47-foot observation tower. Equestrian trails run out of the Loafer Creek area, and Feather Falls Casino is a short walk from the KOA for evening dining and entertainment.

Lake Oroville is a year-round destination, but conditions vary sharply between seasons. Summers are hot, arid, and almost cloudless, with daytime highs frequently in the 90s Fahrenheit and very little rain from June through September. Shade is limited in foothill chaparral, so RVers should plan for sun exposure and run air conditioning during the afternoon. Late summer and early fall bring elevated wildfire risk across Butte County; check Cal Fire and park advisories before travel, and confirm fire restrictions at the campground.
Spring is the most scenic stretch, with wildflowers in the surrounding hills and the reservoir often near full pool from snowmelt in the Feather River watershed. Winter is mild but wet, with most of the area's annual precipitation falling between November and March. Lake levels fluctuate with releases coordinated by the Department of Water Resources, which can affect boat-in sites and shoreline access. Floating campsites and boat-in sites operate seasonally, water levels permitting.

How to book campgrounds near Kelly Ridge
Bidwell Canyon and other sites inside Lake Oroville State Recreation Area are reserved through ReserveCalifornia, the official California State Parks system, on a rolling window that opens six months in advance of the arrival date at 8 a.m. Pacific time. Summer weekends and holidays at Bidwell Canyon fill quickly, so book early or use a cancellation-alert service. The campground has 75 full-hookup sites split between the Big Pine loop (sites 1-39) and the Gold Flat loop (sites 40-75), with sites accommodating RVs up to about 40 feet; verify length limits at the specific site before booking. Oroville / Feather Falls Casino KOA Journey is booked through KOA.com or by phone, and Berry Creek Rancheria RV Park, River One RV Park, and River Reflections RV Park accept direct reservations through their own offices.
What to expect
Bidwell Canyon offers full hookups on a bluff above the lake, with paved spurs, picnic tables, fire rings, flush toilets, showers, a dump station, and potable water. Not every site has a direct lake view, and the walk to the water can be steep from upper loops. Cell coverage in the Kelly Ridge area is generally workable but spotty in canyons. Berry Creek Rancheria RV Park has full-hookup pull-through sites with 30/50-amp service, a pool and hot tub, laundry, showers, cable TV, Wi-Fi, and an on-site fuel station and market, with the Feather Falls Casino on the property. Expect hot pavement and limited shade in summer at all foothill parks. Bring layers; evenings can cool noticeably even after hot days.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Kelly Ridge, CA
How much does it cost to rent an RV in Kelly Ridge, CA?
RV rental in Kelly Ridge is one of the better values in Northern California, with most rigs priced between $95 and $250 per night depending on size and season. Compact campervans and travel trailers anchor the lower end, while Class A motorhomes that sleep the whole family sit at the higher end. To score a cheap RV rental in Kelly Ridge, book midweek (Sunday through Thursday), travel in the shoulder months of March, April, October, or November, and look for hosts offering weekly discounts. Pro tip: the area around Lake Oroville is far less crowded than coastal California, so your dollar stretches further here than it would for a comparable RV rental California closer to the coast.
parks.ca.gov/?page_id=462What kind of driver's license do I need to rent an RV in Kelly Ridge?
Good news: your regular Class C driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Kelly Ridge for the vast majority of motorhomes, campervans, and travel trailers on RVezy. California only requires a Noncommercial Class B license if you're driving a motorhome longer than 40 feet, and a Noncommercial Class A if you're towing a trailer over 10,000 pounds, situations most renters never encounter. You'll need to be 25 or older, and RVezy verifies your ID right inside the platform during booking. Visiting from abroad? Pick up an International Driving Permit (IDP) before your trip and you're ready to roll up Highway 162 toward Lake Oroville.
dmv.ca.gov/portal/handbook/recreational-vehicles-and-trailers-handbook-2011/license-classes-and-requirements/Is RV rental in Kelly Ridge covered by insurance or protection?
Every booking on RVezy includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can hit the road around Lake Oroville with real support behind you. The protection plan covers most damage to the vehicle during your trip, and you choose your coverage level during checkout, not the host. It provides serious financial peace of mind for first-time renters and seasoned travelers alike. With roadside help just a phone call away, even a flat tire on Kelly Ridge Road becomes a minor blip instead of a trip-ender. Pick the coverage level that matches your comfort and focus on the fishing instead.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat's the cancellation policy if my Kelly Ridge RV trip plans change?
Booking is low-risk because RVezy, not individual hosts, sets the cancellation policy across the platform, including a money-back grace period right after you book. That means you can lock in your Kelly Ridge RV trip with confidence today and still have flexibility if life shifts. Special situations like natural disasters (think wildfire smoke advisories or unexpected Lake Oroville closures) are also factored in. For the full details that apply to your trip dates, check the cancellation section in your RVezy booking confirmation or visit the RVezy Help Center. Pro tip: book early to lock in the best rigs for summer weekends at Bidwell Canyon.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a pet-friendly RV rental in Kelly Ridge?
Absolutely, plenty of pet-friendly RV rental Kelly Ridge options are available, just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter when you search RVezy. Lake Oroville State Recreation Area welcomes leashed dogs in campgrounds, parking lots, and on paved roadways at Bidwell Canyon, Loafer Creek, and Lime Saddle. Note that dogs aren't allowed on hiking trails, day-use turf, or the swim beaches at Loafer Creek and North Forebay, and floating campsites are a no-pet zone. Pro tip: the Brad Freeman Trail along the Feather River is dog-friendly and a great morning leg-stretcher before you head back to your campsite for breakfast.
parks.ca.gov/?page_id=462Can the RV be delivered to my campsite in Kelly Ridge?
Yes, RV delivery Kelly Ridge is one of the most popular options on the platform, and it's perfect if you'd rather skip the driving altogether. Many RVezy hosts will deliver, set up, and walk you through your motorhome rental Kelly Ridge directly at Bidwell Canyon Campground, Loafer Creek, Lime Saddle, or a private property near the lake. They'll level the rig, connect hookups where available, and show you how everything works before handing over the keys. Filter for Delivery on RVezy and message the host with your campsite number. It's the easiest way to turn a first-time rental into a stress-free vacation.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Kelly%20Ridge%2C%20CaliforniaHow far can I drive from Kelly Ridge on an RV road trip?

Sacramento, with its farm-to-fork dining scene, is only 70 miles south on Highway 70. Lime Saddle Campground on the north end offers RV sites with a dump station. Looking further out, Feather Falls Casino RV Park offers full hookups plus resort amenities. Reserve through ReserveCalifornia.com up to six months ahead.
reservecalifornia.com/When is the best time to rent an RV in Kelly Ridge, CA?
Spring and fall are the sweet spot for an RV rental in Kelly Ridge. March through May brings wildflower blooms on nearby Table Mountain and pleasant daytime highs in the 60s to upper 70s, while September through November offers cooler 70s to upper 80s, golden hillsides, and lighter crowds. Summer (June through August) is hot, with July highs averaging 96°F and frequent days over 100°F, but Lake Oroville's swim beaches and boat rentals make it the peak season for water lovers. Winters are mild (50s to mid-60s) and rarely see snow at lake elevation, making December through February a quiet, affordable option. Pro tip: book a rig with strong air conditioning if you're traveling in July or August.
weather.gov/sto/I've never rented an RV before. Is it really doable in Kelly Ridge?
Yes, and first time renting an RV around Kelly Ridge is genuinely one of the easiest places to start. Every RVezy host gives you a hands-on orientation at pickup, walking you through the generator, water systems, slide-outs, leveling, and propane before you drive off. Highway 162 (Olive Highway) from Oroville up to Kelly Ridge Road is a wide, well-paved route with gentle grades, perfect for getting comfortable behind the wheel. Choose a Class C motorhome or a delivered travel trailer if you're nervous about driving, message the host with questions before booking, and lean on RVezy's customer support team if anything comes up. Most renters say their first day fears are gone by lunch.
dot.ca.gov/What if something goes wrong with my RV during the trip?
You're never on your own. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, so a flat tire on Kelly Ridge Road, a dead battery at Loafer Creek, or a tow situation on Highway 70 is handled with one phone call. Your host is typically available by message for quick how-to questions (think: how do I restart the water heater?), and RVezy's customer support team backs you up before, during, and after your trip. For genuine emergencies inside Lake Oroville State Recreation Area, dial 911. Save the number in your phone before you leave Oroville and you're set.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Kelly Ridge RV rental across state lines or into Canada or Mexico?
Cross-state travel is generally welcome on an RV road trip from Kelly Ridge, and popular routes include heading north into Oregon on I-5, east into Nevada via Reno and Lake Tahoe, or south through California's national parks. Travel into Canada may be allowed depending on the specific host and protection package, so message the host directly from the listing before booking to confirm. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because protection coverage doesn't extend across that border. Pro tip: a classic 7-day loop from Kelly Ridge takes you to Lassen Volcanic National Park, Mount Shasta, and Lava Beds National Monument, all without leaving California.
nps.gov/lavo/index.htmWhat kind of gas mileage and fuel budget should I plan for?
Plan smart and fuel won't blow up your budget. Class B campervans typically get 18 to 22 MPG, Class C motorhomes 8 to 12 MPG, and big Class A rigs 6 to 10 MPG. California gas prices tend to run higher than the national average, so budget around $5.00 to $5.50 per gallon for regular at Oroville-area stations along Highway 70 and Olive Highway. A 4-day loop with 300 miles of driving in a Class C will usually cost $150 to $200 in fuel. Pro tip: fill up in Oroville before heading up Kelly Ridge Road, as there are no gas stations once you're inside the state recreation area, and prices in town are noticeably cheaper than at lake-adjacent stops.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I reserve a campground near Kelly Ridge?
For the best campgrounds near Kelly Ridge, book your campsite at the same time you book your rig, ideally 3 to 6 months ahead for summer weekends and holidays. ReserveCalifornia.com opens reservations exactly six months in advance on a rolling daily window, and the full-hookup sites at Bidwell Canyon Campground go fastest. Loafer Creek and Lime Saddle are a bit easier to snag, and floating campsites (a Lake Oroville specialty) book up almost instantly when released. For midweek or shoulder-season trips in March, April, October, or November, you can often find sites 2 to 4 weeks out. Pro tip: log in at 8:00 a.m. Pacific exactly six months ahead for the best shot at the prime sites.
reservecalifornia.com/What are the driving conditions like around Kelly Ridge?
Driving around Kelly Ridge is refreshingly relaxed compared to coastal California. Highway 70 and Highway 162 (Olive Highway) are wide, well-maintained two- to four-lane roads with gentle grades up to the lake. Kelly Ridge Road itself is paved and easy to navigate, even in a 30-foot motorhome. The 15 MPH speed limit inside Lake Oroville State Recreation Area means you can take your time. Summer heat (often over 100°F in July and August) means you should drive earlier in the day to keep the engine and AC happy. Watch for occasional wildfire smoke advisories in late summer and early fall, and check Caltrans QuickMap before heading toward Lassen or Tahoe for any seasonal road closures.
quickmap.dot.ca.gov/What amenities can I expect at campgrounds near Kelly Ridge?
Lake Oroville's shoreline campgrounds are well-equipped for any RV trip. Bidwell Canyon Campground offers full hookups (water, electric, sewer) at its sites, plus flush restrooms, hot showers, and a fish-cleaning station. Lime Saddle has RV sites and a central dump station. Loafer Creek has piped water, coin-operated hot showers, and a dump station but no hookups. All three are within 15 minutes of the Lake Oroville Visitor Center on Kelly Ridge Road, where you can grab maps and trip advice. Pro tip: bring quarters or dollar bills for the showers at Loafer Creek, and fill your fresh water tank at the campground spigot before heading to a no-hookup site.
parks.ca.gov/?page_id=462What features come standard in an RV rental near Kelly Ridge?
Most RVs on RVezy near Kelly Ridge come fully equipped for your Lake Oroville adventure: a real bed (or two or three), a kitchen with stove, fridge, microwave, and sink, a bathroom with toilet and shower, air conditioning (essential here in summer), a heater, dining/seating space with seatbelts for travel, and usually a TV. Most rigs include a generator for off-grid power, and some hosts add WiFi hotspots, outdoor speakers, or solar setups. Class C motorhomes typically sleep 4 to 7, while travel trailers and fifth wheels can sleep families of 6+. Pro tip: cell signal is generally strong on major carriers at Bidwell Canyon, so streaming and remote work are very doable from your campsite.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Kelly%20Ridge%2C%20CaliforniaWhat add-ons and pickup options are available for a campervan rental Kelly Ridge?
Hosts on RVezy near Kelly Ridge offer plenty of useful add-ons to upgrade your trip: linen and towel packages, camp chairs and outdoor tables, kitchen kits with pots, pans, and dishes, portable BBQs, generators, and bike racks. For a campervan rental Kelly Ridge specifically, paddleboards and kayaks are popular Lake Oroville add-ons. Pickup is typically at the host's home in the greater Oroville area, though many offer delivery to Bidwell Canyon, Loafer Creek, or Lime Saddle for a flat fee. Mileage policies vary, with most hosts including 100 to 150 free miles per night, and some offering unlimited mileage. Always confirm exact pickup and dropoff times and any cleaning fees in the listing details.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Kelly%20Ridge%2C%20CaliforniaHow does payment and the security deposit work when I rent an RV in Kelly Ridge?
Payment is straightforward and handled entirely through RVezy, so you never hand a host cash or a credit card directly. You pay your rental total securely at booking, and a refundable security deposit is held against your card a few days before pickup, separate from your booking payment. As long as you return the RV in the same condition, on time, with the agreed fuel and tank levels, your deposit is released back to you after the trip ends. Pro tip: take date-stamped photos and a quick walkaround video at both pickup and dropoff. It's the easiest way to keep your deposit drama-free and finish your Kelly Ridge RV trip on a high note.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksHow do I handle the summer heat on an RV trip near Kelly Ridge?
Summer in the Oroville area is hot but very manageable with a few smart moves. July and August routinely see highs from 95°F to 105°F, so book a rental with strong roof-mounted air conditioning and confirm the rig has a working generator or shore power for AC when you're not plugged in. Plan driving and hiking for early morning (before 10 a.m.) or evening (after 6 p.m.), and use the middle of the day for swimming at Loafer Creek's sandy beach or boating on Lake Oroville's 15,500 acres of cool water. Pack plenty of drinking water, the boat-in and floating campsites don't have potable water. Pro tip: shoulder season (April, May, October) gives you 70s and 80s, the smart money move.
