Campgrounds near Los Berros, California
Los Berros sits in southern San Luis Obispo County, a few miles inland from the Nipomo Mesa and the Pacific dunes. The closest RV camping clusters along the coast in Oceano, Grover Beach, and Pismo Beach, all within a short drive on Highway 1 or Highway 101. Campers choose between private resorts with full hookups and California State Parks units operated under the Reserve California system.
Private options include Pismo Sands RV Resort and Pacific Dunes Ranch RV Resort on the Nipomo Mesa, and Le Sage Riviera RV Park along Highway 1 in Grover Beach. For state-run camping, Oceano - Pismo State Beach has 82 single-family campsites for tents, trailers and RVs behind the dunes and adjacent to a fresh-water lagoon. Just south, Oceano Dunes State Vehicular Recreation Area offers primitive beach and dune camping with no designated campsites, drawing off-highway vehicle users to camp directly on the sand.
Things to do near Los Berros
The area pairs quiet inland farmland with one of California's most active stretches of coast. Oceano Dunes State Vehicular Recreation Area offers off-road adventures, camping, kite surfing and fishing in a dynamic coastal dune environment, and OHV rentals are available near the Grand Avenue and Pier Avenue beach entrances. Families who prefer calmer activities can walk the lagoon trail and visit the nature center at Oceano - Pismo State Beach, where fishing is allowed in Oceano Lagoon next to the campground.
From November through February, the Pismo State Beach Monarch Butterfly Grove sits just off Highway 1 between Grover Beach and Pismo Beach, drawing roughly 100,000 visitors annually to watch western monarchs cluster in the eucalyptus trees. Surfing, beach fishing, and wine tasting in nearby Arroyo Grande round out the options.

March - May
64° / 48°F 30 mmCool, breezy afternoons; rain tapers through May
- summer
June - August
72° / 54°F 1 mmPeak demand; morning coastal fog; sites fill months out
- fall
September - November
72° / 52°F 20 mmWarmest beach days; smaller crowds after Labor Day
- winter
December - February
61° / 45°F 85 mmWettest season; monarchs overwinter at the Pismo grove
The central coast has a mild Mediterranean climate, so RV camping is viable year-round, but the experience changes sharply by season. Summer is peak demand: state campgrounds in Oceano book to capacity on weekends and holidays, fog often burns off by midday, and the dunes draw heavy OHV traffic. Spring and fall bring smaller crowds, warmer afternoons inland near Los Berros, and easier same-week reservations at private parks.
Winter is the wettest stretch, with most rain falling from December through February, but it is also monarch season. Butterflies are only in the park during winter months, from November through February, and the grove is part of Pismo State Beach located on Highway 1 between Grover Beach and Pismo Beach. Storms can briefly close beach driving and flood low-lying sites in the SVRA. Summer sites at Oceano book up fast, but a winter visit can be worthwhile for those who bring rain gear, thanks to the monarch grove and quieter beaches.

How to book campgrounds near Los Berros
State park sites use one system, private resorts another. For Oceano - Pismo State Beach and Oceano Dunes State Vehicular Recreation Area, all camping reservations must be made online at Reserve California or by calling 1-800-444-7275 between 8:00 AM and 6:00 PM Pacific Time. Reservations may be made up to six months in advance, and they must be made at least 48 hours prior to arrival. A maximum of two licensed vehicles, including motorcycles, trailers and RVs, are allowed per campsite.
For summer and holiday weekends at the Oceano campground, sites are released six months out and often sell quickly, so logging in just before 8:00 AM Pacific on the release date is standard practice. Pismo Sands RV Resort, Pacific Dunes Ranch RV Resort, and Le Sage Riviera RV Park book directly through each property and generally have shorter lead times outside peak season.
What to expect at Los Berros campgrounds
Expect a real split between hookup resorts and primitive beach camping. At Oceano - Pismo State Beach, campsites 1 through 42 have water and electric hookups, parking spurs have a maximum length of 36 feet, group camping is available, and the campground has flush toilets, showers, potable drinking water, trash collection and an RV dump station. Check-in is at 2:00 PM and check-out is at noon.
The SVRA is a different environment. Oceano Dunes State Vehicular Recreation Area offers primitive beach and dune camping with no designated campsites, facilities are limited to vault and chemical toilets, and beach camping is recommended for four-wheel drive vehicles only. Wind, blowing sand, and OHV noise are constant. Renters should confirm with their RV operator whether beach driving is permitted before booking a sand site.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Los Berros, CA
How much does it cost to rent an RV in Los Berros, CA?
Renting an RV in Los Berros is more affordable than most California coastal destinations because you're in a quiet rural pocket of San Luis Obispo County, not a tourist hub. Expect roughly $95 to $180 per night for travel trailers, $130 to $225 for Class C motorhomes, and $200 to $375 for larger Class A coaches, with hosts setting their own nightly rates and mileage policies. To find a cheap RV rental in Los Berros, travel midweek, book in winter or early spring, and look for towable trailers that hosts will deliver to nearby campgrounds. Pro tip: bundling delivery saves you a tow vehicle entirely and often pays for itself in fuel.
slocounty.ca.gov/departments/planning-building/department-news-announcements/new-rules-for-incidental-rv-camping-in-permitted-pDo I need a special license to rent an RV in Los Berros?
Good news: a regular California Class C driver's license (or your home state or country equivalent) is all you need to rent an RV in Los Berros for the vast majority of motorhomes, campervans, and travel trailers on RVezy. California only requires a non-commercial Class B license for single motorhomes over 40 feet, and a non-commercial Class A for trailers over 10,000 pounds, which are rare on the platform. RVezy approved drivers are generally 25 or older, and your ID is verified inside the booking flow. Visiting from abroad? Bring an International Driving Permit alongside your home license and you're set for your Central Coast adventure.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat protection and roadside assistance comes with my RV rental in Los Berros?
Every RV rental in Los Berros booked through RVezy comes with a renter protection plan and 24/7 roadside assistance included, so you can hit Highway 101 with real peace of mind. You choose your protection level at checkout based on how much extra cushion you want, and the plan covers most physical damage to the RV during your trip. Roadside help covers flat tires, lockouts, jump-starts, and towing, which matters when you're winding through the Santa Lucia foothills or heading out to Lopez Lake. Pick your protection level, confirm, and go.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat is the cancellation policy if my plans change?
Booking is low-risk: RVezy sets the cancellation policy across the platform (hosts don't choose it), and there's a grace-period window after booking where you can cancel for a full refund. Beyond that, refunds depend on how far out from your trip start date you cancel. If a host cancels on you, RVezy refunds your booking or helps you rebook. You'll see the exact terms during checkout before you confirm your rent-an-RV-in-Los-Berros booking, so nothing is hidden. Pro tip: lock in your dates early for peak Pismo Beach weekends, knowing you have a clear path to adjust if life happens.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a Los Berros RV trip?
Absolutely, and the Central Coast is one of the most dog-loving stretches of California. Many hosts offer pet-friendly RV rental in Los Berros, so use the Pet-Friendly filter when you search, and message the host directly to confirm any pet fees. Once you're on the road, head to Pismo Beach (one of the few California beaches allowing leashed dogs on the sand) or hike the dog-friendly Pismo Preserve, about 10 minutes from Los Berros. Lopez Lake Recreation Area also welcomes leashed dogs on its trails. Pro tip: pack a beach towel and freshwater rinse jug, because those Oceano Dunes paws come back sandy.
parks.ca.gov/?page_id=595Can the RV be delivered to my campground near Los Berros?
Yes, and it's the easiest way to do a Los Berros RV trip, especially if you've never towed before. Many RVezy hosts offer RV delivery in Los Berros and across San Luis Obispo County, meaning they'll bring the RV straight to your campsite at Pismo State Beach, Lopez Lake, or a private property, level it, hook it up, and walk you through every system before they leave. Delivery fees usually run a flat rate plus a per-mile charge for trips beyond a set radius. Filter for Delivery on RVezy, message the host with your campground address, and you can literally show up with a duffel bag and start your vacation.
parks.ca.gov/?page_id=595How far can I drive, and what about mileage limits?
You've got plenty of range from Los Berros, which sits right off U.S. Highway 101 about 5 miles south of Arroyo Grande. Most hosts include 100 to 150 free miles per night, with extra miles available at $0.35 to $0.75 each, and some hosts even offer RV rental with unlimited mileage for longer road trips. From Los Berros it's about 15 minutes to Pismo Beach, 35 minutes to Morro Bay, 1 hour to Hearst Castle in San Simeon, 2 hours to Big Sur's southern entrance, and around 2.5 hours to Santa Barbara. Pro tip: estimate your route on Google Maps before booking and ask the host to confirm the mileage package that fits.
dot.ca.gov/Where are the best campgrounds near Los Berros?
You're spoiled for choice on the Central Coast. The best campgrounds near Los Berros include Oceano Campground at Pismo State Beach (about 10 minutes away, with water and electric hookups and a short walk to the dunes), North Beach Campground at Pismo State Beach (steps from the Monarch Butterfly Grove), Lopez Lake Recreation Area (20 minutes east with full hookups, swimming, and 22 miles of shoreline), Pismo Coast Village RV Resort (full-amenity with pool and mini golf), and Le Sage Riviera RV Park in Grover Beach. Local insider tip: book Oceano and Lopez Lake six months ahead through ReserveCalifornia, because Central Coast summer weekends sell out fast.
parks.ca.gov/?page_id=595When is the best time of year for an RV trip from Los Berros?
Honestly, year-round, which is the magic of California's Central Coast. Los Berros sits in a mild Mediterranean microclimate where average highs run 63°F in January and only climb to about 78°F in August, with cool nights in the 45 to 60°F range. The sweet spot is September and October when fog burns off early, beaches stay warm, and crowds thin out. Spring (March to May) brings wildflowers across the Santa Lucia foothills, and winter is shoulder-season gold for cheap RV rental in Los Berros, with the monarch butterflies overwintering in Pismo from November through February. Pro tip: pack layers, because coastal evenings can feel 20 degrees cooler than inland afternoons.
weather.gov/lox/I've never driven an RV before. Will I be okay?
You'll do great, and first time renting an RV around Los Berros is honestly one of the easier places to learn. Every RVezy host gives you a thorough walkthrough at pickup, showing you how to operate the propane, water, generator, slide-outs, and dump valves before you drive off, and you can text them mid-trip with questions. The roads here help too: U.S. 101 is wide and straight through Arroyo Grande, and local routes to Pismo Beach and Lopez Lake are easy two-lane drives. Pro tip: choose a Class C motorhome or campervan for your first trip (they drive much like a large van) and pick delivery if backing into a campsite makes you nervous.
dmv.ca.gov/portal/handbook/recreational-vehicles-and-trailers-handbook-2011/What happens if the RV breaks down during my trip?
You're covered. Every Los Berros RV rental on RVezy includes 24/7 roadside assistance with the renter protection plan, so if you get a flat on Highway 1 near Avila Beach or your battery dies at Lopez Lake, one phone call gets help dispatched. You can also message your host directly through the RVezy app, since they know the rig inside out and can troubleshoot small issues like a tripped breaker or a finicky propane regulator. RVezy customer support is available before, during, and after your trip, too. Pro tip: snap a quick photo of tire pressures and fluid levels at pickup so any issue on the road is easy to describe.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take the RV out of California or across the border?
Yes, your RV rental in California can travel to other U.S. states, and many hosts allow trips up to Oregon, into Nevada, or across to Arizona, so an RV road trip from Los Berros to Las Vegas, the Redwoods, or Grand Canyon country is very doable. Travel into Canada may be allowed depending on the host and insurance, so confirm by messaging before you book. Travel into Mexico is not allowed on RVezy rentals because insurance coverage doesn't extend across that border. Popular multi-day routes from Los Berros include Highway 1 to Big Sur and Monterey, Highway 101 south to Santa Barbara wine country, and inland to Sequoia National Park (about 4.5 hours).
dot.ca.gov/How much should I budget for fuel on a Central Coast RV trip?
Plan smart and you'll be fine. San Luis Obispo County gas prices have run roughly $5.50 to $6.10 per gallon for regular in 2026 according to AAA, which is higher than the national average, so build that into your budget. Most Class C motorhomes get 8 to 12 miles per gallon, Class A coaches 6 to 10 mpg, campervans 14 to 20 mpg, and a tow vehicle with a trailer usually 9 to 14 mpg. For a 3-night Los Berros to Big Sur loop of around 250 miles, expect roughly $130 to $200 in fuel for a Class C. Pro tip: fill up in Santa Maria or Nipomo where prices typically run 20 to 40 cents cheaper than coastal Pismo Beach stations.
eia.gov/dnav/pet/hist/LeafHandler.ashx?n=PET&s=EMM_EPMR_PTE_SCA_DPG&f=WHow far in advance should I book a campground?
Book early and you'll get the prime spots. California State Parks like Pismo State Beach (Oceano and North Beach Campgrounds) open reservations exactly 6 months in advance through ReserveCalifornia, and summer weekends from Memorial Day through Labor Day are typically gone within minutes. Lopez Lake Recreation Area (run by SLO County Parks) takes reservations up to 6 months ahead too, and Pismo Coast Village RV Resort books a full year in advance. For shoulder season (October through April), you can often snag spots 2 to 4 weeks out. Local insider tip: set a calendar alert for 8:00 a.m. exactly 6 months before your desired Friday arrival, that's when the system opens.
reservecalifornia.com/What are driving conditions like around Los Berros?
Easy and scenic, which is a relief if you're new to RV camping in Los Berros. U.S. Highway 101 runs right past town and offers wide lanes, gentle grades, and full-service exits in Arroyo Grande, Nipomo, and Pismo Beach. Local note: Los Berros Road sees regular truck traffic from Oceano agricultural operations, so take it slow on the curves. Coastal fog (called the marine layer) is common from May through August, often clearing by midday, so plan inland or southbound drives for the morning. Highway 1 to Big Sur is stunning but narrow and twisty north of Cambria, so smaller rigs handle it best. Pro tip: avoid Highway 101 northbound on Sunday afternoons in summer when Bay Area traffic returns home.
quickmap.dot.ca.gov/What amenities do local campgrounds offer for RVs?
Central Coast campgrounds are well set up for motorhome rental Los Berros guests. Lopez Lake Recreation Area offers full hookups (water, electric, sewer) plus a dump station, potable water fills, hot showers, and a marina store. Pismo State Beach's Oceano Campground has water and electric sites, restrooms with showers, a dump station, and beach access. Pismo Coast Village RV Resort goes full resort-style with pool, mini golf, laundry, and Wi-Fi. For dry camping, the Oceano Dunes SVRA allows RVs right on the sand (advance reservation required). Pro tip: top off your fresh water at the campground before leaving, since dump and fill stations are limited along Highway 1 north of Morro Bay.
parks.ca.gov/?page_id=595What's inside the RVs available for rent in Los Berros?
More than you'd expect. RVs available for rent an RV in Los Berros come fully equipped: queen or king beds, dinette and bunk beds (great for family RV trip Los Berros plans), full kitchens with stove, oven, microwave, fridge/freezer, and most have a bathroom with toilet and shower. Larger Class A and Class C motorhomes include onboard generators, roof AC, multiple TVs, and seatbelted seats for everyone traveling. Many hosts offer Wi-Fi hotspots, outdoor griddles, and Starlink as add-ons. Campervans (Class B) keep it cozy with sleeping for 2 to 4, kitchenette, and often a wet bath. Pro tip: ask the host for the exact sleeps-with-seatbelts count, since California law requires seatbelts for all passengers under way.
chp.ca.gov/programs-services/programs/seat-beltsWhat add-ons and pickup options can I expect?
Hosts make it easy to customize. Popular add-ons for an RV rental in California Central Coast include camp chairs and tables ($15 to $30 per trip), bedding and linens ($30 to $75), kitchen kits, bike racks, generators, propane fills, dump-station service ($40 to $100), and pet cleaning fees if you bring a furry friend. Pickup is usually at the host's location near Los Berros, Arroyo Grande, or Nipomo, with a 30 to 60 minute walkthrough included. Many hosts offer Instant Book, so you can confirm immediately without waiting. Mileage policies vary from 100 free miles per night up to unlimited, and generator hours sometimes carry a per-hour fee. Pro tip: bundle bedding and a setup kit so your first night doesn't involve a Target run.
slocounty.ca.gov/departments/parks-and-recreationHow do payments and the security deposit work?
Payments are handled securely through the RVezy platform, never directly to the host, so your money is protected from booking to checkout. You'll pay the trip total (rental rate plus any add-ons, delivery, and protection plan) when you book, and a refundable security deposit is pre-authorized separately a few days before pickup. The deposit (typically $500 to $1,500 depending on the rig) is released after the trip once the host confirms the RV came back in good shape. To avoid issues, take date-stamped photos of the interior, exterior, and fuel and propane levels at both pickup and drop-off. Pro tip: return the rig clean and refueled to the level noted at pickup, that's the fastest way to a full deposit refund.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksWhere can I park an RV overnight near Los Berros outside of campgrounds?
Stick to designated spots and you'll have zero stress. Where to park an RV in Los Berros for the night really means using a real campground or RV park, because San Luis Obispo County and surrounding towns (Avila Beach, Oceano, Los Osos, Cambria) prohibit overnight vehicle camping on public streets and lots from a half hour after sunset to a half hour before sunrise. The good news: legal options are everywhere, including Pismo State Beach, Lopez Lake, Coastal Dunes RV Park in Oceano, and a growing number of wineries that participate in the county's Incidental RV Camping program (3 to 5 self-contained RVs per site). Pro tip: Harvest Hosts members can stay free at participating Edna Valley wineries just 25 minutes north.
