Campgrounds and RV parks near Oroville East, CA

The lake is the centerpiece. Lake Oroville draws visitors for water skiing, jet skiing, sailing, wake boarding, and swimming, with an equestrian camp and boat-in camps around the shoreline, plus unique floating campsites available to reserve. The lake is also known for bass, salmon, and trout fishing, and it has 167 miles of shoreline to explore by boat. On land, the Feather Falls National Recreation Trail in Plumas National Forest climbs to an overlook of one of California's tallest waterfalls, where the Fall River drops 410 feet past sheer granite cliffs before joining the Middle Fork Feather River and Lake Oroville. Closer to town, families can tour the Feather River Fish Hatchery, the Lake Oroville Visitor Center, and the trails at Loafer Creek and North Table Mountain Ecological Reserve.

Summer is the peak window. June through August bring hot, dry, predictable weather, the highest lake levels of the recreation season, and the busiest reservation calendar at Bidwell Canyon - Lake Oroville State Recreation Area, the Oroville / Feather Falls Casino KOA Journey, and the riverside parks. Afternoon highs often push into the upper 90s, so travelers tend to plan early-morning hikes and afternoon swims or boat outings, and choose sites with shade and reliable hookups for air conditioning. Spring is the sweet spot for hikers. Waterfalls run hard, wildflowers bloom across North Table Mountain, and temperatures stay comfortable. Fall cools quickly and brings fewer crowds, with salmon returning to the Feather River Fish Hatchery. Winter is the wet season, with the bulk of the area's roughly 24 inches of annual rainfall arriving between November and March. Storms, debris flows, and reduced lake access are realistic considerations from late fall through early spring, and lake elevation is drawn down for flood-control operations, which can pull some boat ramps back from the water.

Expect a clear split between lakeside state-park camping and full-service private RV parks. At Bidwell Canyon - Lake Oroville State Recreation Area, the camping area has 75 sites with full hookups on a bluff overlooking Lake Oroville, split between the Big Pine and Gold Flat loops on either side of the marina. Each site has a parking spur, picnic table, fire ring, and grate, and amenities include flush toilets, showers, an RV dump station, and drinking water. Sites can accommodate trailers and RVs up to 40 feet. Private parks lean toward paved pads and resort-style amenities. The Oroville / Feather Falls Casino KOA Journey offers wide, level 70-foot pull-thru sites with 20/30/50-amp service, a store, group meeting hall, gift shop, laundry, and recreation room. Quiet hours, leash rules, and posted speed limits apply throughout the state recreation area.
