Campgrounds and RV parks near Taft Heights, CA

Taft Heights sits in western Kern County on the southwestern edge of the San Joaquin Valley, surrounded by oilfields and rolling foothills that climb toward the Temblor and San Emigdio ranges. The town itself is small, so most RV travelers base out of full-service parks in and around Bakersfield, roughly 30 to 40 minutes northeast, and use Taft Heights as a quieter staging point for day trips into the Carrizo Plain, Wind Wolves Preserve, and the southern Central Valley. Rosedale Village RV Campland, Bakersfield RV Resort, Bakersfield KOA, Bear Mountain RV Resort, and Bakersfield River Run RV Park form the closest cluster of established RV parks, all offering hookups suited to big rigs. The region pairs flat valley sites with quick access to Buena Vista Aquatic Recreation Area, a Kern County park located approximately 25 miles southwest of Bakersfield. Expect arid, open landscape, easy interstate access via I-5 and Highway 119, and short drives to lakes, wildlife refuges, and grassland preserves.

Privately operated parks near Taft Heights, including Rosedale Village RV Campland, Bakersfield RV Resort, Bakersfield KOA, Bear Mountain RV Resort, and Bakersfield River Run RV Park, take direct reservations through their own websites or phone lines. Booking a few weeks ahead is usually enough outside major holidays, though weekend pull-throughs at the most popular Bakersfield parks can fill faster during spring wildflower season. For the closest public option, Buena Vista Aquatic Recreation Area is managed by Kern County Parks. Reservations can be made online or by calling the Parks reservation desk at (661) 868-7000, with a valid credit card required. Reservations are available any time prior to arrival, based on availability, and may be made up to one year in advance. Campers may reserve up to two sites, with only one waterfront site per customer per date, for up to 14 consecutive days in Peak Season and up to 31 in Off-Peak Season.
