Campgrounds near Cedaredge, Colorado
Cedaredge sits on the southern slope of Grand Mesa in western Colorado, at an elevation just under 6,200 feet. The town serves as a southern access point for the Grand Mesa National Forest, which contains numerous forest service campgrounds, hiking trails, and other recreational sites. RV travelers typically split time between low-elevation private parks near town and higher-elevation forest campgrounds along the mesa top.
Private RV options close to town include Aspen Trails Campgrounds, Valley Sunset RV Ranch LLC, Riverwood Resort on the Gunnison, Four Seasons River Inn & RV Park, and Mountain Valley Meadows RV Park. These provide full hookups and easier shoulder-season access than the forest campgrounds above.
Up on the mesa, the Forest Service operates a chain of lakeside campgrounds along Colorado Highway 65, the Grand Mesa Scenic Byway. The byway climbs 63 miles from the canyon floor up to the forested mesa tops at 11,000 feet, passing lakes and wildflower meadows. Island Lake, Cobbett Lake, Ward Lake, and Jumbo sit at elevations of roughly 9,800 to 10,300 feet on Grand Mesa, home to more than 300 fishing lakes.
Things to do near Cedaredge
Fishing is the headline activity. Grand Mesa is home to more than 300 lakes, and visitors enjoy the area for fishing, canoeing, and hiking. Anglers cast for rainbow, brook, and cutthroat trout on the mesa lakes, while the Gunnison River draws fly fishers to gold-medal water south of town.
Hiking and paddling round out summer trips. The Crag Crest Trail loops through spruce-fir forest above 10,000 feet, and lakes such as Jumbo and Sunset are open to non-motorized watercraft. Cedaredge's Applefest is held annually in October and lines up with fall aspen color.
Winter shifts the mesa into snow country. Grand Mesa becomes a playground for cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, ice fishing, and snowmobiling, and there is downhill skiing at Powderhorn Mountain Resort on the north side.

Elevation drives everything in this area. Cedaredge itself is high desert around 6,200 feet, while campgrounds on top of Grand Mesa sit above 9,800 feet. Snow lingers late up top: the snow is mostly melted by June and wildflowers generally peak in the middle of July, though some high-elevation Forest Service roads may stay snow-covered well into July and may close for the season in early November.
Most mesa-top campgrounds run a short summer season. Many of the Grand Mesa National Forest campgrounds are only open from early June through September. Concessionaire-operated sites typically run May through September, with the Forest Service keeping some areas open before and after that window. Early-season arrivals can encounter lingering snow, and mosquitoes are heavy near the lakes through midsummer.
Private RV parks in and around Cedaredge stay open later into fall and, in some cases, year-round. Fall brings aspen color and Applefest in October; winter closes the mesa-top loop to standard vehicles and shifts activity to skiing and snowmobiling.
How to book Cedaredge campgrounds
Reservable Forest Service campgrounds on Grand Mesa are booked through Recreation.gov, by phone at 877-444-6777 or online. Most campgrounds use a six-month booking window, though the length can vary by location; the Seasons and Fees tab on each facility page shows the specific window and season dates.
Not every mesa site is reservable. All sites at Crag Crest, Ward Lake, and Divide Forks are first-come, first-served, and many other Grand Mesa campgrounds have a handful of first-come, first-served sites as well. Arrive early on Friday for a weekend shot.
Private parks near town, including Aspen Trails Campgrounds, Valley Sunset RV Ranch LLC, Riverwood Resort on the Gunnison, Four Seasons River Inn & RV Park, and Mountain Valley Meadows RV Park, book directly through each property. Weekends around Applefest and the July 4 holiday fill first.
What to expect
Expect two very different camping environments within a short drive. Private parks near Cedaredge offer full hookups, level pads, and easy access to grocery and fuel. Mesa-top forest campgrounds are more rustic: sites include a picnic table and campfire ring, and vault toilets, drinking water, and trash collection are provided, but electric, sewer, and water hookups and showers are not always available.
Rig length matters on the mesa. Access roads off Highway 65 include grades and switchbacks, and many forest loops have short spurs with tight turns among mature spruce and aspen. Larger rigs should confirm site dimensions on Recreation.gov before booking.
Come prepared for altitude, cool nights even in July, afternoon thunderstorms, and heavy mosquitoes near lakes. Bring repellent, and obtain firewood at or near your destination to prevent the spread of tree-killing organisms.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Cedaredge, CO
How much does an RV rental in Cedaredge, CO typically cost?
RV rental in Cedaredge, CO is one of the more affordable ways to experience Colorado's Western Slope. Travel trailers usually run about $90 to $175 per night, Class C motorhomes range from $175 to $300, and larger Class A motorhomes typically sit between $250 and $450. Because Cedaredge is a small gateway town to Grand Mesa rather than a major tourist hub, nightly rates often beat what you would pay in Denver or Aspen. For a cheaper Cedaredge RV trip, target May or late September when Applefest crowds have not yet peaked. Pro tip: midweek pickups and stays of 5+ nights often unlock weekly discounts from hosts.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Cedaredge%2C%20ColoradoWhat license do I need to rent an RV in Cedaredge?
Great news for first-timers: a regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Cedaredge, Colorado. No commercial driver's license (CDL) or special RV endorsement is required for any motorhome, campervan, or travel trailer on RVezy. You'll just need to be 25 or older and complete a quick ID verification through the RVezy platform during booking. Visiting from outside the U.S.? Bring your home-country license plus an International Driving Permit (IDP) and you're good to go. Most renters are surprised how simple it is to step up from driving a car to cruising Highway 65 toward Grand Mesa.
dmv.colorado.gov/drivers-licenseIs RV rental insurance and roadside help included in Cedaredge?
Yes, every RV rental in Cedaredge booked through RVezy includes a renter protection plan and 24/7 roadside assistance. You choose your protection tier at checkout, so you can match coverage to your trip and budget rather than relying on the host to pick for you. Protection plans help cover accidental damage to the RV, while roadside assistance handles things like flat tires, lockouts, and tows, useful on the Grand Mesa Scenic Byway and remote forest roads. With more than 300 alpine lakes nearby, that built-in peace of mind goes a long way on a Cedaredge RV trip.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat happens if I need to cancel my Cedaredge RV booking?
Booking is low-risk. RVezy sets the cancellation policy (not the host), and you can review the exact refund terms on the booking page before you confirm. Cancellations made within the initial grace period after booking are eligible for a full refund, and refunds after that depend on how far out from your trip you cancel. If your host cancels, RVezy helps you rebook or provides a refund or travel credit. Because weather on Grand Mesa can shift quickly, it is worth reading the policy carefully before locking in dates for your Cedaredge RV trip.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a pet-friendly RV rental in Cedaredge?
Yes, dogs are welcome on plenty of trips. Use the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy to see pet-friendly RV rental Cedaredge listings, then message the host about any breed or size details. Cedaredge and Grand Mesa are very dog-friendly: leashed dogs can join you on most trails in Grand Mesa National Forest, around Fruitgrower's Reservoir (Hart's Basin), and along the sidewalks of downtown's Pioneer Town museum area. The Town Park is a great quick stop for a leg-stretch. Pro tip: keep dogs leashed near lakes on the mesa, since moose are common and can be aggressive toward dogs.
fs.usda.gov/recarea/gmug/recreation/recarea/?recid=43576Can the RV be delivered to my campground in Cedaredge?
Yes, RV delivery in Cedaredge is one of the easiest ways to skip the learning curve. Many hosts will drive the RV to private parks like Aspen Trails Campground, or to a Grand Mesa National Forest site such as Island Lake or Little Bear, then level it, hook up power and water, and walk you through every system. This is ideal if it is your first time renting an RV or if you are flying into Grand Junction Regional Airport (about 1 hour away). Filter listings by Delivery on RVezy, then message the host to confirm the campground address and any delivery fee.
recreation.gov/camping/gateways/2475How far can I drive on an RV road trip from Cedaredge?
Plenty far, Cedaredge is a fantastic launch pad. Popular RV road trip from Cedaredge routes include Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park (about 45 miles south), Grand Junction and the Colorado National Monument (about 55 miles northwest), Telluride (about 90 miles south), Ouray's hot springs (about 70 miles south), and Moab, Utah (about 165 miles west). Each host sets their own mileage policy on RVezy, and some offer RV rental with unlimited mileage for longer adventures. Check the listing's daily mileage allowance, then message the host if you're planning a bigger loop. Most are happy to bundle extra miles into your booking.
nps.gov/blca/index.htmWhere are the best campgrounds near Cedaredge for an RV?

Shady Creek RV Park sits right at the edge of town for easy in-and-out. Up on Grand Mesa, Island Lake, Little Bear, and Cobbett Lake campgrounds offer stunning alpine RV camping Cedaredge experiences from late June through September. For lakefront fishing, Crawford State Park is about an hour south. Pro tip: U.S. Forest Service sites on Grand Mesa sit above 10,000 feet, so book early on Recreation.gov for July and August weekends.
recreation.gov/camping/gateways/2475When is the best time of year to visit Cedaredge in an RV?
Cedaredge has a true four-season personality, but late May through mid-October is the sweet spot for an RV trip. Summer days in town sit in the mid-80s°F with cool 50s°F nights, while up on Grand Mesa temperatures stay 15-20°F cooler, perfect for escaping desert heat. September brings Colorado's famous golden aspens and the beloved Cedaredge Applefest in early October. Spring (April-May) is quiet and affordable, and winter brings snow and access to Powderhorn Mountain Resort about 45 minutes away. Pro tip: time your trip for the last Sunday in September, the Forest Service's 'Color Sunday' on Grand Mesa.
weather.gov/gjt/I've never driven an RV before. Will I be okay in Cedaredge?
Yes, and Cedaredge is a forgiving place to learn. Every host gives you a hands-on orientation at pickup, walking you through driving, leveling, hookups, the awning, and waste tanks. The town sits on quiet two-lane highways with light traffic, so you can build confidence before tackling the scenic climb up Highway 65 to Grand Mesa. If you are nervous about size, start with a Class B campervan rental in Cedaredge or a smaller Class C, both drive much like a large van. RVezy support is available, and you can message your host with questions before, during, and after your trip.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat if something goes wrong with the RV during my Cedaredge trip?
You are covered around the clock. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance, so help is one phone call away for flat tires, dead batteries, lockouts, or mechanical issues, even on remote Grand Mesa forest roads. Your host is also typically just a text away and knows the RV inside and out. RVezy customer support is available before, during, and after your trip. Pro tip: cell service can be spotty above 10,000 feet on Grand Mesa, so save the RVezy support number and your host's contact info on your phone before you head up Highway 65 toward Lands End Observatory.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take the RV across state lines or into Canada or Mexico?
Absolutely for state lines: from Cedaredge you're well-positioned for cross-country adventures into Utah (Moab and Arches are just 3 hours west), Wyoming, New Mexico, and Arizona. Cross-border travel into Canada may be allowed by some hosts depending on insurance, so message them directly through the listing before booking if that's your plan. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because insurance does not cover trips south of the border. Pro tip: popular interstate loops from Cedaredge include the Mighty 5 Utah parks trip and a southern Colorado Rockies circuit through Telluride, Durango, and the San Juan Skyway.
cbp.gov/travel/us-citizens/know-before-you-goWhat kind of fuel mileage and gas budget should I plan for?
Plan for honest numbers and you'll have no surprises. Campervans and Class B rigs get around 18-22 MPG, Class C motorhomes 8-12 MPG, and big Class A coaches 6-9 MPG. Travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle, usually 10-14 MPG combined. Colorado gas prices typically run a bit above the national average, and the nearest stations to Cedaredge are in town on Highway 65 or down in Delta. Pro tip: fill up in Cedaredge or Delta before climbing Grand Mesa, because services thin out fast above the visitor center, and the elevation gain will eat more fuel than you expect.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far ahead should I book a campground near Cedaredge?
Sooner is better, especially for Grand Mesa. Reserve U.S. Forest Service campgrounds like Island Lake, Little Bear, and Cobbett Lake through Recreation.gov as early as 6 months out for July, August, and Applefest weekends in October. Private parks like Aspen Trails Campground often book 2-3 months ahead for summer weekends. Colorado State Parks like Crawford open reservations through Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) up to 6 months out. Pro tip: midweek arrivals at mesa-top campgrounds open up dramatically, and free dispersed sites like Twin Lake and Mesa Top Parking Area are first-come, first-served for self-contained RVs.
recreation.gov/What are local driving conditions like around Cedaredge?
Driving here is more relaxing than most Colorado destinations, with light traffic and well-maintained roads. Highway 65 (the Grand Mesa Scenic Byway) climbs from 6,200 feet in town to over 10,800 feet on top of the mesa, so expect steep grades, switchbacks, and 15-20°F temperature drops as you climb. The road is paved and RV-friendly all the way up. Watch for deer at dawn and dusk and mule deer or moose on the mesa. In winter, the upper byway gets snow and requires chains or traction tires. Pro tip: always check the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) road status before climbing in shoulder seasons.
codot.gov/travel/colorado-road-conditionsWhat amenities will I find at campgrounds near Cedaredge?
You'll find everything from full-service RV resorts to rustic alpine sites. Aspen Trails and Shady Creek RV Park offer full hookups (water, sewer, 30/50 amp electric), showers, laundry, and a dump station. Forest Service campgrounds on Grand Mesa like Island Lake and Cobbett Lake provide vault toilets, potable water spigots, picnic tables, and fire rings but no hookups, perfect for boondocking with a generator. The Town of Cedaredge has a public dump and freshwater fill for RVers, and the Conoco in town is a reliable stop. Pro tip: top off fresh water before heading up the mesa, since potable water on top is only available seasonally.
fs.usda.gov/r02/gmug/recreation/grand-mesa-visitor-center-grand-valley-rdWhat's included inside the RV itself?
Almost everything you need to live comfortably. Most RVs on RVezy come with real beds (queens are standard, plus convertible dinettes and bunks in family rigs), a full kitchen with fridge, stove, microwave, and sink, a wet or dry bathroom with shower and toilet, climate control with furnace and air conditioning, and seatbelted seating for travel. Many also include a TV, Bluetooth stereo, outdoor speakers, awnings, and onboard generators for off-grid camping on Grand Mesa. Some hosts offer Wi-Fi hotspots as an add-on. Pro tip: check the listing's 'Sleeps' count and amenity list, then message the host about specifics like a backup camera or solar, which are super handy at remote mesa-top sites.
fs.usda.gov/r02/gmugWhat add-ons and pickup options can I expect?
Lots of flexibility. Popular add-ons include camp chairs, outdoor grills, fishing gear, bedding and linen packages, Wi-Fi hotspots, generators, and bike racks, with most extras priced between $10 and $50 per item or per trip. Many Cedaredge hosts offer delivery to Grand Mesa campgrounds, Crawford State Park, or even the Grand Junction Regional Airport (GJT) for a per-mile fee. Mileage policies vary by listing, with some offering RV rental with unlimited mileage and others including 100-150 miles per day plus an overage rate. Pro tip: bundling add-ons at booking is almost always cheaper than adding them later, and it speeds up your walkthrough on pickup day.
gjairport.com/How does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy in Cedaredge?
Payment is straightforward and fully handled through RVezy, with no cash or off-platform transfers. You pay your trip total securely at booking with a credit or debit card. Most hosts also require a refundable security deposit, typically a few hundred to a couple thousand dollars depending on the RV class, held separately from your booking payment and released after the trip if there are no issues. Keeping all communication and payment on the RVezy platform protects both you and the host. Pro tip: take a quick time-stamped walk-around video at pickup and drop-off in Cedaredge so any damage questions get resolved quickly.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksCan I rent an RV in Cedaredge in winter?
Yes, and winter is a quietly amazing time to visit. Powderhorn Mountain Resort is about 45 minutes from Cedaredge with 1,600 feet of vertical and famously short lift lines, and the surrounding valleys stay accessible all winter. For winter RV rental Cedaredge bookings, look for rigs with heated holding tanks, enclosed underbellies, and a strong furnace, then ask the host about cold-weather prep like skirting, heated water hoses, and 30/50 amp shore power at parks like Shady Creek RV Park. Cedaredge winter lows average in the teens°F. Pro tip: plan stays at campgrounds with full hookups, since many mesa-top sites close after October.
