Campgrounds near Kersey, Colorado
Kersey sits on the eastern plains of Weld County along U.S. Highway 34, about seven miles east of Greeley and roughly an hour northeast of Denver. The area works well as an RV base for renters who want quiet, flat, easy-access sites near a full-service town, with the Rocky Mountain foothills, Rocky Mountain National Park, and the Pawnee National Grassland all within reasonable driving distance.
Private RV parks handle most overnight camping close to town. Platte River Fort Resort and Event Center and Greeley RV Park are the closest full-hookup options, while Wild Country RV Park, RV Retreat at Johnson's Corner, and Falcons Landing RV Park cover the corridor between Kersey and I-25. These parks are pull-through friendly and generally open year-round, which matters on the plains where public campgrounds run more seasonally.
Public camping is available a short drive out. St. Vrain State Park to the southwest and Jackson Lake State Park to the east both offer reservoir-side sites with electric or full hookups, run by Colorado Parks and Wildlife.
Things to do around Kersey
The Poudre River Trail runs paved and mostly flat between Greeley and Windsor, making it a good option for families with bikes or scooters. Anglers and paddlers head to the ponds at St. Vrain State Park and the reservoir at Jackson Lake State Park, where boat rentals and swim beaches are available in season.
Day trips scale up quickly. Rocky Mountain National Park is roughly a two-hour drive west through Estes Park, with Trail Ridge Road typically open from Memorial Day weekend into October. To the northeast, the Pawnee National Grassland offers dispersed exploration, birding, and the Pawnee Buttes hike. Downtown Greeley adds groceries, laundromats, propane, and RV service within a short drive of any campground on this list.

Summer is the busiest stretch. June through August brings hot, dry days on the plains with highs often near or above 90°F, cool nights, and frequent late-afternoon thunderstorms rolling off the Front Range. Book private RV parks in the Kersey and Greeley area several weeks ahead for weekends, and expect state park sites at Jackson Lake and St. Vrain to sell out the moment their six-month reservation window opens.
Shoulder seasons are the sweet spot for RV renters. Late April through May offers mild days, greening prairie, and lighter demand, though May is the wettest month and spring wind can be strong. September and October deliver warm days, cool nights, and aspens changing color in the mountains without midsummer crowds.
Winter camping is possible at year-round private parks near Kersey and at St. Vrain, but expect freezing overnight lows, occasional snowstorms, and some water hydrants shut off to prevent freezing.

Super friendly and helpful hosts. This was our second time renting their RV and will always check with them before booking anything else!

I had an excellent time on my hunt this season. The trailer was perfect. Having hot shower and warm bed every night made the trip so much more enjoyable. Sometimes it’s having the things we take for granted like indoor plumbing, lights and a roof over your head can really elevate your outdoor experience. Would absolutely recommend this!

This RV was wonderful, it had absolutely everything you need and is immaculate! The host Jonas and his wife are amazing and there for you every step immediately if you need anything. Totally enjoyed it and stress free!

This camper had everything we could possibly need or want. It has a big commercial fridge, all the linens and pillows, kitchen utensils, coffee maker, and even an ice cream maker! It is beautiful, spacious, and so comfortable for our family of 4. Jonas and Nanda were fantastic to rent from. We loved that they delivered and set it up for us. They showed us all the ins and outs, and even came out to do a shower head replacement for us mid stay! We will absolutely rent from them again, and next time we’ll plan to try out that ice cream maker!

How to book campsites near Kersey
Colorado state parks are reservation-only, with no walk-up camping. Sites at Jackson Lake and St. Vrain State Park are booked through CPWshop.com or by phone at 1-800-244-5613, with the window opening six months ahead of the arrival date on a rolling basis. A daily vehicle pass or annual pass is required in addition to the campsite fee, and the maximum stay is 14 days within any 28-day period.
Private parks near Kersey, including Platte River Fort Resort and Event Center, Greeley RV Park, Wild Country RV Park, RV Retreat at Johnson's Corner, and Falcons Landing RV Park, are booked directly through each park. National forest campgrounds farther west use Recreation.gov on separate rolling windows.
What to expect on the ground
Terrain around Kersey is flat, open, and easy to navigate with any size rig. Private RV parks in the corridor typically offer full hookups, level pull-throughs, laundry, and Wi-Fi, and most are big-rig friendly. Cell coverage on the plains is generally strong, which changes quickly once you head into the mountains.
Weather can shift fast. Afternoon thunderstorms, hail, and high wind are routine from May through August, so awnings should be stowed when leaving the site. Fire restrictions tighten in dry summers, and campgrounds post current stage bans at check-in.
Wildlife on the plains is mostly deer, pronghorn, prairie dogs, and raptors. Standard food storage and leashed pets keep things simple; bear-resistant storage becomes relevant only once trips extend into the foothills or Rocky Mountain National Park.
