Campgrounds and RV parks near Leadville North, CO

Leadville North sits in Lake County at roughly 10,000 feet in Colorado's Sawatch Range, adjacent to the historic mining town of Leadville. The area is bordered by the San Isabel National Forest and its Leadville Ranger District, which manages developed campgrounds around Turquoise Lake and Twin Lakes plus dispersed sites on wider Forest Service land. Mount Elbert and Mount Massive, the two highest peaks in Colorado, rise just west of town. RV travelers typically split between private full-hookup parks in and around Leadville and Forest Service loops closer to the lakes. Leadville RV Corral, Sugar Loafin' Campground, Win Mar Cabins, Western Inn Motel and RV Park, and Middlefork RV Resort are the closest private options, offering the shortest drive to town services, gas, groceries, and the ranger district office. Elevation shapes every trip here. Temperatures swing sharply between day and night even in July, freezing nights can occur in any month, and afternoon thunderstorms are routine in summer. Plan for altitude acclimation before hiking a fourteener.

Developed campgrounds on the Leadville Ranger District are managed through Recreation.gov. Sites can be booked from six months ahead down to five days before arrival. Inside the five-day window, remaining sites convert to first-come, first-served, and reservations cannot be made through the local ranger district by phone. Holiday weekends and Turquoise Lake loops fill early, often at the six-month mark. Some campgrounds, including tent-only and smaller loops, run entirely first-come, first-served, so mid-week arrivals improve odds. Dispersed camping is allowed on much of the Leadville Ranger District but is prohibited inside the Turquoise Lake and Twin Lakes recreation areas. Private RV parks near town, including Leadville RV Corral, Sugar Loafin' Campground, and Middlefork RV Resort, take reservations directly and are the reliable fallback for full hookups, dump stations, and shoulder-season stays.
