Campgrounds and RV parks near Mountain Village, CO

Mountain Village sits at about 9,500 feet on the north slope of the San Juan Mountains, connected to the historic town of Telluride by a free public gondola. RVs are only allowed to park overnight in the Telluride Town Park Campground and sleeping in an RV is only permitted when the vehicle is parked in a designated campsite, so most RV travelers base themselves in the surrounding valleys and ride in. Because Mountain Village lies at the end of a dead-end highway corridor, the closest RV options fan out along US-550 and CO-145. Two clusters dominate: Ouray to the north, over Dallas Divide, and Silverton to the south, over Red Mountain Pass on the Million Dollar Highway. Named options include Ouray Riverside Resort, Ouray KOA Holiday, Red Mountain Motel and RV Park, and Silver Summit RV Park And Jeep Rentals, plus the tent camp at Campfire Ranch Red Mountain Pass. Most parks in the area run small, meaning rigs over 30 feet have real constraints on where they fit. Altitude is a practical factor too: sites here sit well above 8,000 feet, which affects generator performance, AC efficiency, and propane draw in cold weather.

Private RV parks in Ouray and Silverton, including Ouray Riverside Resort, Ouray KOA Holiday, Red Mountain Motel and RV Park, and Silver Summit RV Park And Jeep Rentals, take reservations directly through their own websites or by phone, with some also listed on KOA and Good Sam booking systems. Book festival weekends four to six months out. National Forest campgrounds along CO-145 use Recreation.gov. For most campgrounds, Recreation.gov runs a rolling booking window, and you can book exactly six months before your arrival date, not a day sooner, with the window opening at 8am Mountain Time on the calendar day that is six months ahead. Popular July and August weekends often clear within minutes of release. Campfire Ranch Red Mountain Pass books directly through the operator rather than a federal portal.
