Campgrounds near Baltic, Connecticut
Baltic is a small village in the town of Sprague in eastern Connecticut, sitting along the Shetucket River in the state's Quiet Corner region. The area works well as a base for RV travelers because it combines rural riverfront camping with quick access to Norwich, the Mystic coast, Foxwoods, and Mohegan Sun.
The closest option is Salt Rock State Park, a public recreation area that preserves over a mile of wooded Shetucket River waterfront just north of the village. Facilities include tent and RV sites, some with utilities, along with restrooms, showers, and a dumping station. Private options in the surrounding towns include Sunfox Campground LLC, Highland Campground, Hidden Acres Campground on the Quinebaug River in Preston, and Odetah Campground in Bozrah.
Most campgrounds in this corridor operate seasonally from spring through mid-fall, with a mix of full-hookup RV sites, partial-hookup sites, and tent areas. Sites near the rivers fill first, so booking ahead is recommended for summer weekends and holiday weeks.
Things to do near Baltic
River activity is the main draw. Salt Rock State Park sits on over one mile of wooded Shetucket River frontage suitable for kayaking and fishing, and Hidden Acres Campground offers similar access to the Quinebaug River for tubing, swimming, and fishing.
Families with children tend to gravitate to the resort-style properties. Odetah Campground centers on a pond with a swimming beach, and its recreation lineup includes mini golf, a heated pool with splash pad, boat and canoe rentals, playgrounds, and organized weekend events with live music.
Off-property, RV travelers are within roughly a 30-minute drive of Mystic Seaport, Mystic Aquarium, and the Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun resorts, plus nearby state forests for day hiking.

The camping season in this part of Connecticut is short and clearly defined. Salt Rock State Park typically opens in mid-spring and closes in mid-fall, and private parks in the area track a similar window, with Odetah Campground operating roughly from early May through the end of October.
Late June through August is peak. Weekends, holiday weeks, and any dates tied to fireworks or theme events sell out first, especially waterfront and full-hookup sites. Bug pressure is highest in June, and afternoon thunderstorms are common in July and August.
Shoulder-season trips in May, September, and early October are quieter and cooler, with foliage color peaking in mid-October in inland eastern Connecticut. Winter camping is not an option at the campgrounds listed here: state and private grounds close, and freezing overnight temperatures make hookups impractical for most RV travelers.

How to book
Salt Rock State Park uses the Connecticut state reservation system through ReserveAmerica. Reservations must be made at least 2 days in advance, with an 11 month booking window. The maximum length of stay is 14 consecutive days, and following any stay all members of the camping party and their equipment must leave the park for 5 days before returning.
Private campgrounds set their own rules. Odetah Campground begins taking season reservations on April 1st at 8AM, generally by phone or in person, with a 3 night minimum on holidays and payment in full required. Hidden Acres Campground also takes RV reservations directly. Book holiday weekends several months out.
One statewide rule to know: Connecticut prohibits bringing firewood into state campgrounds and state parks from other states to slow the spread of forest pests. Buy firewood locally on arrival.
What to expect on site
Sites in this area range from wooded state-park loops to landscaped resort layouts. Salt Rock State Park offers tent and RV sites, some with utilities including recently upgraded 50 amp service on sites 1-7, plus restrooms, showers, and a dumping station. The pools at Salt Rock were permanently closed following the 2023 camping season, so plan accordingly before booking.
Private parks trend larger and more amenity-heavy. Odetah Campground is an 80-acre property in Bozrah accommodating RVs up to 80 feet, with full hookups and tent areas in select sections. Hidden Acres Campground offers full hookup and riverfront sites, wifi, and a general store.
Pets are generally welcome on leash, with limits varying by park (Salt Rock allows pets on a maximum seven foot leash, two pets per campsite). Cell coverage is usable but not universal in the wooded river valleys.

May and June bring lush green forests and temperatures generally in the 60s to upper 70s Fahrenheit, perfect for hiking around Mohegan Park. July and August are warmer, often in the upper 70s to upper 80s, ideal for beach trips to Ocean Beach Park in New London. September and early October are a local favorite as fall foliage spreads across eastern Connecticut, crowds thin out, and daytime temperatures stay comfortable in the 60s. Most Baltic-area campgrounds operate from mid-April through mid-October, so plan around that window for the smoothest experience.
weather.gov/box/Is renting an RV in Baltic a good idea if it's my first time?
Renting an RV in Baltic, CT is a great choice for first-timers because the local driving is easy and host support is hands-on. Every RVezy host provides a walkthrough at pickup, showing you how the slide-outs, generator, water systems, and propane work, and they stay reachable by message throughout your trip. Roads around Baltic such as Route 97 and I-395 are gently rolling and much calmer than the Boston or New York metro areas, so you can build confidence on quiet country routes before heading to busier destinations. Book a Class C motorhome or a delivered travel trailer for your first trip. They are forgiving to drive and the host can set everything up for you.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat if something goes wrong with the RV during my trip?

Your host is also just a message away for questions about appliances or systems, and RVezy customer support is available before, during, and after your trip. Save the roadside number to your phone before you leave Baltic and snap a photo of the RV's license plate and VIN so you have details ready if you ever need them.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Baltic, CT RV rental across state lines or into Canada?
Yes, interstate travel is welcomed on most RV rentals in Baltic, CT, which makes sense given how close you are to Rhode Island, Massachusetts, New York, and beyond. Popular RV road trips from Baltic include Newport, Rhode Island (about 1 hour 15 minutes), Cape Cod (around 2 hours 30 minutes), and Acadia National Park in Maine (roughly 6 hours). Travel into Canada depends on the host and protection plan selected, so message the host before booking if Quebec or the Maritimes are on your list. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on any RVezy rental. Confirm your route in writing with the host through the RVezy messaging system.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat should I budget for fuel on an RV trip from Baltic, CT?
Fuel is one of the biggest variables, but it is easy to plan for when you rent an RV in Baltic. Connecticut gas prices typically run a bit above the national average. Travel trailers towed by a pickup average roughly 10 to 14 mpg, Class C motorhomes get about 8 to 12 mpg, and larger Class A rigs come in around 6 to 9 mpg. For a 300-mile loop to Mystic, Newport, and back to Baltic, budget roughly $90 to $150 in fuel for most setups depending on current prices. Gas stations along I-395 in Norwich and Plainfield are often cheaper than those right off I-95 near the shoreline.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Baltic?
For the best sites, book early, but you have plenty of options even last-minute. Connecticut State Parks accept reservations through Reserve America up to several months in advance, and popular spots like Hopeville Pond and Pachaug State Forest's Mount Misery campground fill up fast for July and August weekends. Salt Rock Campground in Baltic and Strawberry Park in Preston are private parks that typically take reservations directly through their websites, with summer weekends often booking 2 to 4 months ahead. Shoulder-season weekends in May, June, and September often have same-week availability, which pairs perfectly with a spontaneous Baltic RV trip when fall foliage hits its peak in mid-October.
portal.ct.gov/deep/state-parks/camping/state-park-campgroundsWhat are driving conditions like around Baltic, CT?
Driving an RV around Baltic is genuinely relaxing compared to most of the Northeast. Route 97 (Scotland Road) and Route 207 are scenic two-lane roads through farmland and forest with light traffic, and I-395 just east of town is a wide, modern highway that connects you to Mystic, Norwich, and the Mass Pike with ease. Watch for low-hanging branches on rural backroads, occasional deer at dawn and dusk, and tight historic village centers like downtown Norwich, which are better avoided in larger rigs. Winters can bring snow and ice from December through March, so for a cold-weather trip, ask your host about snow tires and heated tanks. Summer driving is straightforward and beginner-friendly.
portal.ct.gov/dotWhat amenities will I find at campgrounds near Baltic, CT?
Campgrounds near Baltic offer a great mix of amenities for every style of RV camping. Salt Rock Campground has full hookups (water, electric, sewer), a swimming pool, an on-site dump station, hot showers, and laundry. Strawberry Park Resort in Preston adds pools, live music, and a camp store. State park campgrounds such as Hopeville Pond and Pachaug State Forest typically offer non-hookup sites with potable water spigots, vault or flush toilets, and a central dump station. Many Connecticut state park campgrounds can accommodate RVs up to around 35 feet, though sites vary. Top off fresh water at the campground entrance before you park, and use the dump station on your way out to keep your stay simple.

Many listings also include a TV, Bluetooth stereo, awning, outdoor chairs, and a generator for off-grid stays. Wi-Fi varies by host and cellular coverage. When you message the host before booking, ask about included kitchen kits, bedding, and bath towels. Many Baltic-area hosts include these at no extra charge, saving packing space for the fun stuff like Mystic Seaport tickets.

Payment is simple and secure on RVezy. You pay for your Baltic, CT RV rental directly through the platform with a credit or debit card. The security deposit is separate from your booking payment and is held as a temporary authorization on your card before pickup, then released after your trip ends, assuming the RV is returned in the agreed condition. Deposit amounts are set by each host and typically range from $500 to $1,500 depending on the rig. Take photos and a video at pickup and drop-off, return the RV with the agreed fuel and propane levels, and empty the tanks if your host requests it. Keep all communication and receipts inside the RVezy app for the smoothest checkout.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksCan I rent an RV in Baltic, CT during the winter?
Yes, winter RV rentals in Baltic are available and can be a great way to experience snowy New England. Some hosts offer four-season rigs with heated holding tanks, enclosed underbellies, and strong furnaces, ideal for visits to nearby ski areas or a cozy weekend near Mohegan Sun and Foxwoods. Most public campgrounds in Connecticut close after mid-October, but private parks like Strawberry Park Resort offer limited winter sites, and many renters use winter RVs as comfortable basecamps on private land. Filter for four-season listings on RVezy and message the host to confirm winterization, shore power needs, and tire readiness. Pack extra propane, as a 20-pound tank can go quickly when temperatures drop into the teens.
