Campgrounds and RV parks near Byram, CT

Byram sits in the southwest corner of Connecticut on Long Island Sound, roughly 30 miles from Manhattan. The immediate town has no public campground, so RV travelers base out of a mix of state parks in the Hudson Valley, a national recreation area in Brooklyn, and a waterfront RV park in Jersey City. All are reachable in under two hours in normal traffic. The closest full-service option for RVs is Liberty Harbor RV Park in Jersey City, which functions as an urban basecamp for visiting New York City. The park operates as a fenced section within a marina parking area, providing basic hookups on level gravel surfaces. It is open year-round. For more traditional camping, Beaver Pond Campground adjoins the Lake Welch Recreation Area within Harriman State Park, and Pelton Pond in Clarence Fahnestock State Park sits farther north in the Hudson Highlands. Heckscher State Park is on the south shore of Long Island, and Floyd Bennett Field, part of Gateway National Recreation Area, is in Brooklyn.

New York State Park campgrounds, including Beaver Pond, Pelton Pond at Clarence Fahnestock, and Heckscher, are reserved through the ReserveAmerica system. Reservations can be made up to 9 months in advance, with sites becoming available at the 9-month window at 8AM Monday-Friday and 9AM weekends from March 15 through Labor Day, and same-day reservations are allowed until 3PM on the day of arrival for campsites. Floyd Bennett Field reservations are booked online at Recreation.gov. Liberty Harbor RV Park takes reservations directly through its own website or by phone. For holiday weekends and July through August at any state park, booking as soon as the window opens is essentially required. Midweek stays are far easier to secure late.
