Campgrounds and RV parks near Darien Downtown, CT

Darien sits on Connecticut's Fairfield County coast along Long Island Sound, roughly an hour by road from a mix of Connecticut state parks, Hudson Highlands parks in New York, and Long Island's south-shore beaches. RV renters based here can reach inland forest campgrounds and coastal, ferry-access sites within a single travel day. Inland options across the state line include Pelton Pond at Clarence Fahnestock State Park, a wooded campground in the Hudson Highlands of Putnam and Dutchess counties with 80 sites, plus Sylvan Lake Beach Park Inc, a private lakefront campground in Dutchess County. In Connecticut, Kettletown State Park sits on Lake Zoar in Southbury, though its campground is currently closed due to flood damage. On Long Island's south shore, Heckscher State Park offers 67 sites on the Great South Bay shoreline in Suffolk County, accommodating tents and RVs from 20 to 50 feet with no hookups but restrooms, showers, and a dump station. Watch Hill Campground, on Fire Island itself, is reached only by ferry or private boat and is a tent and glamping destination not accessible to RVs.

Reservation systems vary by park agency. Reservations for Connecticut state park camping are made through the state's official system on ReserveAmerica, and New York state parks including Heckscher use ReserveAmerica as well. Reservations at Heckscher can be made up to 9 months in advance, with a maximum stay of 14 consecutive nights, and same-day reservations are allowed until 3 p.m. on day of arrival for campsites. Fire Island uses different platforms. Designated sites at Watch Hill are booked through the concessioner LoveFINS, while backcountry camping in the Otis Pike Fire Island High Dune Wilderness is available in two zones via a permit reserved through Recreation.gov. Private options like Sylvan Lake Beach Park Inc are booked directly with the operator.
