Camping near East Village, Connecticut
East Village sits in western Connecticut's Litchfield and Housatonic hills region, within easy driving distance of both state-run campgrounds and privately operated RV parks. The area combines wooded state forest land, lakes and reservoirs formed by dams on the Housatonic and Naugatuck rivers, and small New England towns that make convenient supply stops between camping nights.
State-managed options nearby include Kettletown State Park, a 605-acre park on the eastern shore of Lake Zoar on the Housatonic River, and Black Rock State Park in the Western Highlands, a 439-acre park with steep wooded ledges around Black Rock Pond. Note that the Kettletown campground and surrounding areas, including the Pomeraug, Crest and Brook Trails, will remain closed for the 2026 season, with a reopening date not yet determined, and the closure now extends through the 2026-2027 seasons due to flood damage from the August 2024 rainfall event, so day-use is possible but overnight camping there is not.
Private and foundation campgrounds fill the gap for RV travelers needing hookups or lake access. Branch Brook Campground, Gentile's Campground, and Point Folly on Bantam Lake all sit within a reasonable drive.
Things to do near East Village
Water recreation anchors most trips. Bantam Lake, adjacent to Point Folly, is a common destination for paddling and fishing, and the White Memorial Foundation property covers roughly 4,000 acres with about 35 miles of trails used for walking, biking, and horseback riding. Lake Zoar, next to Kettletown's day-use area, remains open for shore fishing and hiking even while the campground is closed.
Anglers should note that Black Rock Pond is one of Connecticut's designated trout parks, regularly restocked through spring and fall, making it a family-friendly option for younger fishers. Hikers can pick up the Mattatuck Trail through Black Rock, and Branch Brook Campground offers on-site recreation including a pool and stocked brook fishing for registered guests.

The camping season in western Connecticut runs roughly from mid-spring through mid-fall. Black Rock's camping season typically begins in mid-April and ends September 30, with early-season stays operating as rustic camping only before bathhouses open. Point Folly runs from early May through Columbus Day. Branch Brook operates a longer April-through-November window suitable for shoulder-season RV trips, and Gentile's Campground follows a similar warm-weather schedule.
Summer weekends between late June and Labor Day are the busiest window, with July and August seeing peak humidity and daytime highs regularly in the 80s Fahrenheit. Spring brings variable temperatures, wet trails, and strong trout fishing; fall delivers cool nights and hardwood color through October.
Winter camping is not offered at these sites. Kettletown remains closed for the 2026 and 2027 seasons following flood damage from the August 2024 rainfall event, so plan around private campgrounds or Black Rock for overnight stays.

Marcie and her van were great! Marcie is a very low key host - she is very responsive and was so flexible about pick up and drop off times. Her solar batteries weren't working before our trip and she made sure they were replaced in time. Everything worked great and the van ran great. We spent a week in Acadia in the van. It was small enough that we were able to take it anywhere (including Cadillac Mountain, which doesn't allow anything over 21 feet) and park it with ease most places. We were worried about the sleeping arrangements but we ended up being super comfortable. We never used the propane, but the A/C worked great.

We had a great time on our trip in Marcie’s Solis. She was straightforward, kind, and easy to communicate with.

Easy pick up and drop off. Joe and Kim go over and above to make sure your experience with the vehicle is a positive one.

We were very pleased with our rental from Joe and Kim. The response when we had a question was instant. The unit was clean and the functionality for a 2005 unit was surprisingly good. Would definitely rent from them again.

How to book near East Village
Connecticut state park campgrounds use ReserveAmerica. For Black Rock, reservations must be made at least one day ahead of arrival and can be made up to 11 months in advance, and the same window applies across the Connecticut state system. Cabin bookings at state parks have a two-night minimum on weekends and require the primary occupant to be at least 21.
Point Folly is booked through the White Memorial Conservation Center, with sites not reserved in advance available on a first come, first served basis. Branch Brook Campground and Gentile's Campground take reservations directly through their own offices by phone, email, or online form. Because inventory is limited on summer weekends across the region, booking as far ahead as the applicable window allows is the safest approach.
What to expect on-site
Expect a mix of amenity levels. Private parks such as Branch Brook and Gentile's offer full or partial hookups, pools, laundry, and Wi-Fi, geared to RV travelers who want a base camp with kids' activities. State park and foundation campgrounds are more rustic: Black Rock sites do not include individual water or electric hookups, though bathrooms, showers, and a dump station are provided, and Point Folly offers drinking water and pit toilets without individual electric, water, or sewer.
Connecticut state parks enforce strict rules relevant to RV families: alcohol is prohibited at Kettletown State Park and pets are not permitted in the campground. Bringing firewood into Connecticut state parks from other states is prohibited to limit forest pests, so buy firewood locally. Secure food against bears and raccoons, and expect cell service to be patchy in the wooded interior.
