Campgrounds and RV parks near Long Hill, CT

Shoreline recreation drives most trips. Rocky Neck State Park features a half-mile crescent of sandy beach on Long Island Sound, with a boardwalk and salt-marsh viewing platforms suitable for families. Downtown Mystic is a short drive east and includes Mystic Seaport Museum, Mystic Aquarium, and a walkable riverfront district of shops and restaurants. On rainy days, the two nearby tribal casino resorts, Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun, offer arcades, bowling, and family entertainment in addition to gaming. Fishing is easy to arrange: Aces High RV Park is set on wooded land among three ponds, one of which is stocked with trout, and charter boats run out of Groton, Niantic, and New London. Biking is practical inside the campgrounds and along the Niantic Bay Boardwalk.

The shoreline camping season runs mainly from mid-May through late September. Rocky Neck State Park's 2026 campground season opens Friday, May 15 and closes Friday, September 25 at noon, and rustic cabins are available to reserve with a seven-night Sunday-to-Sunday minimum through mid-to-late September. Private parks have longer seasons: Aces High RV Park in East Lyme is open twelve months a year, and Sun Outdoors Mystic operates from spring into fall. July and August are peak. Sites at Rocky Neck and at Sun Outdoors Mystic fill weeks ahead for summer weekends and holidays, and beach parking charges a higher rate for out-of-state vehicles on weekends and holidays. Late June and early September tend to offer easier bookings and lighter beach crowds while the water is still warm enough for swimming. Winter travel is limited to the year-round private RV parks. Snow and ice are possible from December through March, and most state-park facilities close outside the summer season.

Expect two distinct camping styles. State-park sites at Rocky Neck are wooded and open grassy loops divided into five sections, each with its own restroom, shower area, and water supply, plus a picnic table and fire ring at each site, a dump station, and no hookups at the site. Pets are prohibited in the campground and on the beach. Sites accommodate tents and RVs, and interior roads are bike-friendly. Private resorts offer more amenities. Aces High is a big-rig-friendly resort with paved sites, two pools, sauna, and pickleball, and its sites offer electric, water, sewer, cable TV, and 30/50 amp hookups; the park does not allow tents, per the town of East Lyme. Sun Outdoors Mystic offers a pool, planned activities, and a range of RV site types. Expect coastal humidity in summer, mosquitoes near marshes at dusk, and heavier I-95 traffic on Friday afternoons and Sunday evenings.
