Camping near Noank, Connecticut
Noank is a small coastal village in the town of Groton, sitting on a peninsula between the Mystic River and Palmer Cove on Long Island Sound. It is a working harbor with lobster shacks, marinas, and easy access to downtown Mystic, the Mystic Aquarium, and Mystic Seaport Museum. RV travelers use Noank primarily as a base for exploring the greater Mystic area and southeastern Connecticut's shoreline.
There are no RV campgrounds inside Noank itself. The closest options sit in Old Mystic, North Stonington, Preston, and East Lyme, most within a 15 to 30 minute drive. Sun Outdoors Mystic and Mystic KOA Holiday are the two closest full-service resorts, while Strawberry Park Campground and Hidden Acres Campground offer larger family resorts about 15 to 20 miles north in Preston. Aces High RV Park in East Lyme provides hookups west of the Thames River.
Expect a mix of destination resorts with pools and activity programs, plus a handful of Connecticut state park campgrounds within an hour's drive for a more rustic experience.
Things to do near Noank
The main draws are Mystic Seaport Museum, Mystic Aquarium, and the walkable downtown Mystic waterfront, all within about 10 minutes of Noank. Families can add a visit to Olde Mistick Village, watch the drawbridge in downtown Mystic, or eat lobster rolls at the docks in Noank itself.
Outdoor options include Bluff Point State Park and Coastal Reserve in Groton, with trails to a rocky Long Island Sound headland, and Haley Farm State Park next door. Denison Pequotsepos Nature Center in Mystic has miles of trails through a wooded preserve. Rocky Neck State Park in East Lyme offers a sandy beach and swimming.
Foxwoods Resort Casino and Mohegan Sun are both within about a 30 minute drive, offering indoor entertainment on rainy days.

The core camping season on the Connecticut shoreline runs from mid-spring through mid-fall. Most private campgrounds around Noank, including Sun Outdoors Mystic, Mystic KOA Holiday, Strawberry Park Campground, and Hidden Acres Campground, operate roughly May through mid-October. Hidden Acres runs May 1 through mid-October, and Strawberry Park typically opens around Memorial Day weekend and closes in mid-October. Aces High RV Park in East Lyme is one of the few in the area that stays open outside the standard season.
Connecticut state park campgrounds, including Rocky Neck in East Lyme, generally run a May through early September season, so summer trips need to plan around that window. July and August are peak, with themed weekends, live music, and full activity schedules at the family resorts, and sites at popular parks book far in advance for holiday weekends.
September and early October bring cooler nights, fewer crowds, and fall foliage inland. Winter and early spring are quiet and often snowy, with most campgrounds closed and coastal storms possible.

How to book campsites near Noank
For private campgrounds, book directly with the operator. Sun Outdoors Mystic and Strawberry Park Campground take reservations online through their websites and by phone. Mystic KOA Holiday books through the KOA site or app. Hidden Acres Campground opens its reservation calendar each February for the upcoming season and takes bookings through its website and by phone. Aces High RV Park accepts direct bookings by phone or website.
Connecticut state park campgrounds, including nearby Rocky Neck State Park, are booked through ReserveAmerica or by calling 1-877-668-CAMP. Reservations open 11 months in advance, require at least one day's notice, and carry a two-night minimum for most sites. Bringing firewood into state campgrounds from out of state is prohibited; buy it on site or locally.
For summer weekends and holidays, reserve 8 to 12 weeks out at minimum.
What to expect on the ground
Campgrounds in the Mystic area lean toward large, family-focused resorts with pools, planned activities, and a heavy seasonal-camper population. Sun Outdoors Mystic and Strawberry Park Campground both have significant seasonal contingents alongside transient sites. Sites are generally wooded or partly shaded with grass or gravel pads.
Hookups vary. Mystic KOA Holiday and Aces High RV Park offer full hookups with 30 and 50 amp service and big-rig-friendly pull-throughs. Sun Outdoors Mystic has water and electric on most sites with pump-out service available. Hidden Acres has full-hookup sites along the Quinebaug River. Strawberry Park offers full-hookup and pull-through options with 50 amp service.
Cell service is generally decent near I-95, and downtown Mystic is a short drive from any of these parks. Bring bug spray in summer and expect coastal humidity.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Noank, CT
How much does it cost to rent an RV in Noank, CT?
RV rental in Noank is more affordable than many travelers expect for the Connecticut shoreline. Travel trailers typically start around $95 to $160 per night, Class C motorhomes range from $175 to $275 per night, and larger Class A rigs run $250 to $400 per night. Because Noank sits between Mystic and Groton, pricing stays competitive year round, with the best deals in May, late September, and October. To save more, look for hosts offering weekly discounts, free local delivery, or unlimited mileage. Pro tip: a midweek pickup (Sunday through Thursday) often trims summer rates, leaving more in your budget for fresh oysters at Abbott's Lobster in the Rough.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Noank,%20ConnecticutWhat license do I need to rent an RV in Noank, Connecticut?
Great news: a regular Connecticut (or out-of-state) driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Noank. The state does not require a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or any special endorsement for personal RVs, including big Class A motorhomes and fifth wheels. You'll need to be at least 25 years old to book on RVezy, and ID verification happens right inside the platform during checkout, so there's no paperwork to chase down. Visiting from overseas? Pick up an International Driving Permit (IDP) from your home country's auto club before you fly in, usually under $25. Most first-time renters are surprised how smooth the whole process feels.
portal.ct.gov/dmv/licenses-permits-ids/get-a-new-drivers-licenseIs insurance and roadside assistance included with my Noank RV rental?
Yes, every RV rental in Noank booked through RVezy includes a renter protection plan and 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can hit Route 1 with real peace of mind. Protection plans provide coverage for the RV during your trip, and during booking you choose from multiple tiers so you can pick the level that fits your trip. If you get a flat heading toward Bluff Point or need a jump in the Mystic Seaport lot, one call to RVezy roadside support gets help rolling. That kind of backup is what turns first-time renters into repeat road-trippers.
rvezy.com/insurance-and-protectionWhat's the cancellation policy if my Noank RV trip plans change?
Booking is low-risk. RVezy applies a consistent cancellation policy across every listing (it isn't set by individual hosts and isn't displayed inside each listing), and it includes a full money-back grace period right after you book, giving you breathing room to lock in plans early. After that window, refund amounts depend on how far out you cancel. If a host cancels, RVezy refunds the guest or provides travel credits. Pro tip: book early to grab the best Mystic-area rigs for Fourth of July weekend and the Mystic Outdoor Art Festival, knowing the grace period lets you confirm details with your crew.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a Noank RV rental?
Absolutely, a pet-friendly RV rental in Noank is easy to find. Just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy and you'll see plenty of motorhomes and travel trailers ready to welcome your pup. Hosts may charge a small pet cleaning fee, which is shown upfront before you book. Once you're here, your dog will enjoy Esker Point Beach in Noank, the trails at Bluff Point Coastal Reserve in Groton, and the wide-open Haley Farm State Park. Mystic also has several dog-friendly patios. Pro tip: message the host before booking to confirm pet details, and note that Groton has 24-hour emergency vet care about 10 minutes away.
portal.ct.gov/deep/state-parks/parks/bluff-point-state-park-and-coastal-reserveCan the RV be delivered to my campground or rental house in Noank?
Yes, RV delivery in Noank is one of the easiest ways to start your trip, especially if you've never towed before. Many local hosts will drive the RV straight to your campsite at Seaport Campgrounds, your vacation rental in Mystic, or a driveway in Groton, then level it, hook up water and power, and walk you through every system before leaving. Delivery fees are usually based on mileage from the host's location and shown clearly during checkout. This is a game changer for a family RV trip Noank style: fly into Providence (T.F. Green) or Hartford, drive down, and the rig is already waiting. Filter by Delivery on RVezy to see who offers it.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Noank,%20ConnecticutHow many miles can I drive on my Noank RV rental?
You'll have plenty of range to explore. Hosts set their own mileage policies, and on RVezy you'll find many Noank-area listings offering 100 to 150 free miles per night, with some offering RV rental with unlimited mileage, ideal for a longer New England loop. From Noank, Mystic Seaport is about 4 miles, Newport, RI is about 40 miles, Providence is about 55 miles, Boston is about 105 miles, and the Cape Cod Canal sits about 110 miles away. Extra miles typically run $0.30 to $0.45 each. Pro tip: if you're planning an RV road trip from Noank up to Acadia or down to NYC, filter for unlimited-mileage listings to keep your budget predictable.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Noank,%20ConnecticutWhere can I camp with my RV near Noank, CT?
You're in one of the best campground clusters in New England. Within about 25 minutes of Noank you'll find Seaport Campgrounds in Old Mystic (full hookups, pool, close to downtown Mystic), Mystic KOA Holiday in North Stonington (mini golf, pool, family favorite), Highland Orchards Resort Park in North Stonington (large sites, on-site activities), and Rocky Neck State Park in East Lyme (saltwater beach camping). For a more rustic vibe, Burlingame State Campground just over the Rhode Island line in Charlestown has hundreds of sites near the ocean. Pro tip: Connecticut state parks book up fast for summer weekends, so reserve through the official Connecticut State Parks reservation system as soon as your dates open.
portal.ct.gov/deep/state-parks/camping/camping-areas---ct-state-parks-and-forestsWhen is the best time of year for RV camping in Noank?
Late May through mid-October is the sweet spot for RV camping Noank style, with the absolute peak from mid-June to early September when water temps in Fishers Island Sound hit the low 70s. Summer highs run 78 to 85 degrees with cool ocean breezes, and overnight lows in the 60s make for great sleeping with the windows cracked. September and early October bring 70-degree days, fewer crowds, and the start of stunning shoreline foliage, our favorite shoulder season. Winter rentals are limited because most Connecticut campgrounds close November through April, but a few hosts offer winterized rigs for off-season Mystic getaways. Pro tip: book around the Mystic Outdoor Art Festival (mid-August) for one of the liveliest weekends on the coast.
weather.gov/box/I've never driven an RV before. Will I be okay renting one in Noank?
You'll do great, and you won't be on your own. Every RVezy host provides a hands-on walkthrough at pickup covering driving, leveling, hookups, the propane system, slide-outs, and dumping, so you leave feeling confident, not overwhelmed. For first time renting an RV around Noank, consider a smaller Class C motorhome or a campervan rental in Noank, both easy to handle on Route 1 and I-95. Stick to the right lane on I-95 through New London, avoid the narrow streets of downtown Mystic at peak summer hours, and use the larger lots near Olde Mistick Village for parking. Pro tip: if city traffic worries you, choose a host who offers delivery and skip the driving entirely on day one.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat happens if something breaks down during my Noank RV trip?
You're covered around the clock. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance through the renter protection plan, so whether you're stuck with a flat on I-95 near Groton, a dead battery at Esker Point, or a propane issue at the Mystic KOA, one call gets help dispatched. Common services include towing, jump-starts, tire changes, lockout help, and fuel delivery. Your host is a quick message away for questions about systems they know inside and out, and RVezy support is reachable before, during, and after the trip. Pro tip: take photos of the rig at pickup so any issue gets resolved quickly and cleanly.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Noank RV rental across state lines or into Canada?
Yes, traveling across state lines from Noank is normal and one of the best parts of a New England RV trip. Popular routes include Rhode Island beaches (Misquamicut is about 25 minutes away), Cape Cod (about 2 hours), the White Mountains of New Hampshire (about 3.5 hours), and Acadia National Park in Maine (about 6 hours). Travel into Canada depends on the host and the protection plan, so message the host directly through the listing before booking to confirm. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because insurance coverage does not extend there. Pro tip: if a Maritime Canada loop is on your bucket list, mention it in your first message so the host can confirm cross-border approval upfront.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat kind of fuel mileage and gas budget should I plan for?
Budgeting fuel for an RV rental Connecticut trip is easier than people think. Class B campervans average 18 to 22 MPG, Class C motorhomes get 8 to 12 MPG, larger Class A rigs run 6 to 10 MPG, and travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle (typically 10 to 14 MPG combined). Connecticut gas prices are usually slightly above the national average. A typical 4-day Noank to Newport to Cape Cod loop in a Class C burns roughly 50 to 70 gallons. Pro tip: fill up just over the Rhode Island line in Westerly or in Groton off Exit 86, both often cheaper than the Mystic stations near the seaport. Check current local prices before you leave.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Noank?
Lock in your sites early and the rest of the trip falls into place. Connecticut State Parks like Rocky Neck open reservations months in advance through the official state reservation portal, and prime July and August weekends sell out quickly. Private parks near Noank, including Seaport Campgrounds and Mystic KOA, also book 6 to 9 months out for summer holidays. For shoulder-season trips in May, late September, or October, 2 to 4 weeks is usually fine. Pro tip: if you strike out on a Saturday night, try a Sunday-to-Thursday stay and fill weekdays with Mystic Aquarium, Olde Mistick Village, and the Submarine Force Museum in Groton before weekend campers arrive.
portal.ct.gov/deep/state-parks/camping/online-camping-reservationsWhat are the local driving conditions like around Noank?
Driving an RV around Noank is very manageable once you know the lay of the land. I-95 is the main artery, with Exit 90 (Mystic) and nearby exits offering RV-friendly access. Avoid Route 215 through downtown Noank village if you're in anything longer than about 25 feet, since the streets near the Noank Shipyard get narrow. The Gold Star Memorial Bridge over the Thames River poses no clearance issues for a standard RV. Summer Friday traffic on I-95 northbound through Mystic can crawl, so aim to drive midmorning or after 7 PM. Watch for sudden coastal fog in spring and fall, and slow down for the occasional deer near Bluff Point.
portal.ct.gov/dotWhat amenities will I find at campgrounds near Noank?
Campgrounds around Noank are well-equipped for a comfortable stay. Private parks like Seaport Campgrounds and Mystic KOA offer full hookups (water, 30/50-amp electric, sewer), Wi-Fi, hot showers, laundry, pools, and on-site dump stations. Connecticut state parks such as Rocky Neck and Hopeville Pond provide bathrooms, showers, and centralized dump stations, though most sites are no-hookup, so plan to use your fresh water tank and follow posted generator hours. For dumping or refilling between stops, Seaport Campgrounds and Mystic KOA often accept non-guest dump fees. Pro tip: fill your fresh tank before you leave Noank, since the closest public potable water fill is at the Mystic KOA, and call ahead to confirm availability on busy summer weekends.
portal.ct.gov/deep/state-parks/camping/camping-areas---ct-state-parks-and-forestsWhat's actually inside the RV I'm renting in Noank?
You'll be impressed by how complete these rigs are. Most motorhome rental Noank listings come fully equipped with real beds (queen masters are common), a kitchen with fridge/freezer, stove, microwave, sink, and cookware, a bathroom with toilet and shower, climate control with AC and furnace, and seatbelted seating for travel. Many include a TV, Bluetooth stereo, outdoor speakers, awning, and an onboard generator or solar setup for off-grid stays near Bluff Point or Rocky Neck. Wi-Fi varies, some hosts include a mobile hotspot, others recommend tethering to your phone since major carriers have strong coverage along the southeastern Connecticut shoreline. Pro tip: review the listing's amenity list and photos closely, or message the host to confirm specifics like linens, a grill, or beach chairs.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Noank,%20ConnecticutWhat add-ons and options can I get with my Noank RV rental?
Hosts offer a variety of extras to make your trip easier. Common add-ons for an RV rental in Noank include linen and towel packages, kitchen kits, outdoor chairs and tables, bikes, kayaks or SUPs (great for Mystic River paddling), generators, propane refills, and pet cleaning packages. Many hosts also offer delivery and setup for a per-mile fee, plus pickup or drop-off at convenient meeting points like a local Walmart or T.F. Green Airport. Pickup and return times are set by each host and shown on the listing, with many hosts flexible if their calendar allows. Pro tip: bundling delivery, setup, and linens with one host often beats sourcing them separately, and saves you a stop on the way to Esker Point Beach.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Noank,%20ConnecticutHow does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is straightforward and secure. When you book a Noank RV, you pay through RVezy's platform with an approved card, never directly to the host, which keeps your money protected. Most hosts require a refundable security deposit (typically a few hundred to over a thousand dollars depending on the rig) that is pre-authorized on your card before the trip, not actually charged unless there's damage or a policy violation. The hold is released after the host completes the post-trip inspection. To avoid issues, do a thorough walkthrough at pickup, take date-stamped photos of any existing scratches or dings, and return the rig with the agreed fuel and propane levels. That's it, no surprise fees, just a smooth Mystic-area getaway.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksWhat are the best road trip destinations from Noank, CT?
Noank is one of the most underrated launch points in the Northeast. An RV road trip from Noank can hit Mystic Seaport and Aquarium (about 4 miles), Watch Hill and Misquamicut Beach in Rhode Island (20 to 25 miles), Newport mansions and the Cliff Walk (about 40 miles), Providence's Federal Hill food scene (about 55 miles), Cape Cod's Hyannis and beaches (about 115 miles), the Berkshires and Tanglewood (about 140 miles), the White Mountains (about 180 miles), and Acadia National Park in Maine (about 320 miles). Heading the other way, NYC is about 130 miles via I-95. Pro tip: try a 5-day loop from Noank to Newport to Cape Cod to Boston and back for lighthouses, lobster rolls, and three world-class harbors without long drives.
