Campgrounds and RV parks near Noroton, CT

Noroton sits on the Long Island Sound coast in Darien, Connecticut, roughly 40 miles northeast of Manhattan. The area itself is dense suburban shoreline with no campgrounds inside town limits, so RV renters typically drive one to two hours to reach public campgrounds in inland Connecticut, the Hudson Highlands, or on Long Island. Across the Sound on Long Island, Heckscher State Park offers a large seasonal campground on the Great South Bay. Heading west into New York, Pelton Pond at Clarence Fahnestock State Park and Beaver Pond Campground at Harriman State Park cover the Hudson Highlands with wooded lake and pond sites. Kettletown State Park in Southbury sits on Lake Zoar, though the campground has been closed since a 2024 flood damaged the access road and bridge, so day use is the current option there. For a more remote coastal trip, Watch Hill Campground on Fire Island National Seashore requires a ferry from Patchogue and is walk-in only, so it suits tent add-ons rather than RV stays. Together these parks cover forested lake camping, bay-front sites, and mountain settings within reasonable range of Noroton.

New York State Parks use ReserveAmerica. Heckscher State Park, Pelton Pond at Clarence Fahnestock State Park, and Beaver Pond Campground at Harriman State Park accept reservations up to nine months ahead of arrival, and same-day bookings are permitted until 3 p.m. on the day of arrival when sites remain. Connecticut state park campgrounds are reserved through the state's ReserveAmerica portal, though Kettletown itself is not accepting camping reservations while the campground is closed. Watch Hill Campground at Fire Island National Seashore is booked directly through the concessioner at watchhillfi.com rather than Recreation.gov, and access is by passenger ferry from Patchogue since no vehicles are allowed on the island. For peak summer weekends, set a reminder for the exact day and time the booking window opens.
