Camping near Plainfield Village, Connecticut
Plainfield Village sits in eastern Connecticut's Quiet Corner, along the Quinebaug River and just off I-395. The area serves as a practical base for RV travelers exploring New London and Windham counties, with several private campgrounds and a state-park campground within a short drive. Hopeville Pond State Park encompasses 544 acres in Griswold, Connecticut, centered around the 137-acre Hopeville Pond, an impoundment of the Pachaug River, and offers 80 sites in a wooded setting near the pond, with a dumping station, boat launch ramp, drinking water, and showers.
Private options round out the mix. Campers World On Hopeville Pond sits next to the pond with lakeside sites, swimming, boating, fishing, planned activities, and full hookups. River Bend Campground is geared to active families, with paddling on the Moosup River, a swimming pool, and planned programming. Countryside RV Park and Nature's Campsites sit within roughly the same radius, giving travelers a range of hookup levels and settings.
The surrounding Pachaug State Forest, the region's largest state forest, provides trail systems and day-use recreation that pair well with an RV stay.
Things to do near Plainfield Village
Water recreation drives most trips. Visitors can enjoy boating, canoeing, kayaking, fishing, swimming, picnicking, hiking and biking at Hopeville Pond State Park, and the park also has a swim beach, boat launch and picnic areas. The Pachaug River corridor is a regional favorite for paddling and fishing, and Nature's Campsites offers direct access from its riverside setting.
Family activity is a strength of the private parks. Nature's Campsites sits within Pachaug State Forest and offers a variety of campsites and cabins, plus hiking, fishing, and a pool. River Bend adds a pool and children's programming.
Day trips are easy: Mohegan Sun and Foxwoods casinos are roughly 15 to 25 minutes south, and Mystic and the southeastern Connecticut coast are within about an hour by car.

The eastern Connecticut camping season is short and predictable. Hopeville Pond State Park's campground typically opens in mid-April and closes in mid-October, with a Friday opening and a Monday closing at noon. Nature's Campsites operates from early May through mid-October, and River Bend Campground runs seasonally from mid-April through mid-October. Private grounds along I-395 keep similar windows.
Summer is peak. July and August bring warm, humid days ideal for swimming and paddling, and weekend and holiday sites at the state park and lakefront private grounds fill months in advance. Late spring and early fall are quieter, with cooler nights and lower demand, and foliage begins to turn by late September.
Winter camping is not available at these parks. The main gate at Hopeville Pond opens the first day of April, and closes on the last day in October, and private grounds shutter over the same window because of freezing temperatures and snow.

How to book campgrounds near Plainfield Village
State-park sites and private sites use different systems, so plan two tracks. Reservations must be made 1 day ahead of arrival and can be made up to 11 months in advance at Hopeville Pond State Park, through ReserveAmerica. For summer weekends, book at the 11-month mark, especially for waterfront loops.
Private parks handle their own bookings. River Bend Campground uses its own online reservation platform, Nature's Campsites takes reservations directly, and Campers World On Hopeville Pond books through its campground office. Countryside RV Park also books direct. For holiday weekends, contact these operators several months out.
One state-park rule to note: Connecticut DEEP limits stays to fourteen consecutive days, followed by a mandatory interim period during which camping equipment must be removed from the park.
What to expect at campgrounds near Plainfield Village
Expect wooded, New England-style sites rather than open RV resorts. Hopeville Pond has 80 single-family campsites in a heavily wooded area near the pond, some along the shore with pond views, accommodating tents, trailers and RVs, with 11 sites offering water and electric hookups. Additional park facilities include a dumping station, boat launch ramp, concessions, drinking water, and showers. Pets are not allowed on the beach or in the campground, and alcohol has been permanently banned at Hopeville Pond State Park.
Private grounds trade seclusion for amenities and activity. Sites at Nature's Campsites sit relatively close together with limited privacy between neighbors, and both seasonal and weekend camping are available. Cell coverage is generally solid along the I-395 corridor. Bring bug spray for the wooded loops, and expect chipmunks, deer, and occasional wildlife around dusk.

rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Plainfield%20Village%2C%20ConnecticutDo I need a special license to rent an RV in Plainfield Village, CT?
Good news, your everyday driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Plainfield Village. Connecticut does not require a commercial driver's license or any special RV endorsement for personal motorhomes and travel trailers under 26,000 pounds, which covers essentially every rig on RVezy. You'll just need to meet RVezy's approved driver requirements (generally 25 or older) and complete a quick ID verification through the platform when you book. Visiting from outside the U.S.? Bring your home country license plus an International Driving Permit and you're set. Most first time renters are surprised how straightforward it is, just hop in after your host's walkthrough and you're road trip ready.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat protection and roadside assistance come with my RV rental?
Every booking on RVezy automatically includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can pull out of Plainfield Village with real peace of mind. The protection plan helps cover accidental damage to the RV during your trip, and you choose your coverage level during checkout based on how much financial protection you want. Roadside assistance is built in and covers things like flat tires, lockouts, jump starts, and towing, whether you're parked at a campground in Voluntown or rolling up I-395 toward Massachusetts. Pro tip: pick your protection tier based on your comfort with the deductible, not just the rig size.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat if my plans change, can I cancel my RV rental?
Yes, booking is low risk because RVezy (not individual hosts) sets the cancellation policy for every reservation. There's a money back grace period right after booking, and additional refund options depending on how far ahead of your trip you cancel. If a host cancels on you, RVezy refunds your booking or provides travel credits so you're not left scrambling. Because the cancellation policy is handled at the platform level, you won't see it listed on the host's page. Pro tip: book your Plainfield Village RV trip earlier rather than later, you'll lock in the rig you want and still have flexibility built in if plans shift.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on an RV rental in Plainfield Village?
Absolutely, pet-friendly RV rental Plainfield Village options are easy to find on RVezy. Just toggle the Pet Friendly filter on the search page and you'll instantly see rigs whose owners welcome four legged passengers (some ask for a small pet cleaning fee, which is shown upfront). Eastern Connecticut is fantastic dog country: Pachaug State Forest in nearby Voluntown has miles of leashed dog friendly trails, and many local private campgrounds allow pets on leash. Bring a tie out, a collapsible water bowl, and proof of rabies vaccination just in case a campground asks. Pro tip: message the host before booking if you have a large breed, many are happy to confirm and share their favorite pet friendly stops nearby.
portal.ct.gov/deep/state-parks/forests/pachaug-state-forestCan the RV be delivered to my campsite instead of picking it up?
Yes, RV delivery Plainfield Village is one of the most popular options on RVezy, especially for first timers who'd rather skip driving a big rig. Many local hosts will deliver your motorhome or travel trailer directly to a campground, a friend's driveway, or even an event venue, then level it, hook up water and power, and walk you through every system before they leave. Use the Delivery filter to see hosts offering this service. Delivery fees are typically based on mileage from the host's location, often $2 to $4 per mile round trip. Pro tip: delivery to a nearby state park or private campground is a sweet setup for stationary family trips, you essentially get a cabin on wheels with zero driving stress.

June and early July bring warm days typically in the upper 70s to mid 80s and lush green forests, perfect for swimming at nearby Beach Pond. Late September through mid October is the showstopper, the Quiet Corner of Connecticut delivers genuinely spectacular fall foliage, with peak color usually in early to mid October. weather.gov/box/I'm a first time renter, will I actually know how to use the RV?
Yes, and you're in great company, a huge share of RVezy guests are first time renting an RV. Every host gives you a hands on orientation at pickup (or at delivery), walking you through the generator, slide outs, water and waste systems, propane, awning, and driving tips specific to their rig. Plan on 30 to 60 minutes for the walkthrough and bring your phone to record it. Hosts in the Plainfield Village area are known for being patient and welcoming, many will even text you the night before to answer last minute questions. RVezy support is also available 24/7. Pro tip: do a short practice drive on the quieter back roads near Route 14A before heading onto I-395.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/categories/360002374693-For-rentersWhat happens if something goes wrong on the road?
You're covered, every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan. If you get a flat on I-395, lock the keys in the rig at a Mystic parking lot, run out of fuel, or need a jump start at a campsite in Pachaug State Forest, you call one number and help is dispatched. For mechanical issues, your host is usually your first text, they know their RV best and can often troubleshoot in minutes. RVezy's support team is also available around the clock through the app. Pro tip: snap a photo of the RV's VIN and license plate before you leave the driveway, it speeds up any roadside call dramatically.
rvezy.com/insurance-and-protectionCan I take my RV rental across state lines or into Canada?
Yes, interstate travel is encouraged, you'll cross state lines constantly in this corner of New England. Plainfield Village is just a few miles from the Rhode Island border and about 25 miles from Massachusetts, and your RVezy protection plan covers travel throughout the United States. Popular routes include south to the Connecticut and Rhode Island shoreline, north to the New Hampshire White Mountains, and east to Cape Cod. Heading into Canada is allowed by many hosts but requires their written approval before booking, so message the host directly from the listing. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals. Pro tip: a Mystic to Newport to Cape Cod loop from Plainfield Village is a perfect 4 night first trip.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityHow much should I budget for fuel on an RV road trip from Plainfield Village?
Fuel is the biggest variable, but it's manageable with a quick estimate. Connecticut gas prices are usually a bit above the national average, and diesel typically runs $0.30 to $0.60 more per gallon. Class B campervans get roughly 18 to 22 MPG, Class C motorhomes 8 to 12 MPG, and Class A rigs 6 to 10 MPG, while travel trailer MPG depends on your tow vehicle (often 10 to 14 MPG combined). For a 300 mile round trip from Plainfield Village to Cape Cod in a Class C, plan on roughly $90 to $140 in fuel at current prices. Pro tip: check the EIA's weekly New England fuel report before you head out so your budget is dialed in.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Plainfield Village?
For the best sites, book early. Connecticut state park campgrounds take reservations through ReserveAmerica on a rolling window, and prime summer weekends at places like Mashamoquet Brook and Pachaug State Forest can sell out within hours of release. Private campgrounds like Stateline Campresort accept reservations well in advance, and holiday weekends (Memorial Day, July 4, Labor Day, Indigenous Peoples' Day weekend) typically fill up 3 to 6 months out. Midweek stays are much more relaxed and often available a week before. Pro tip: if you strike out on a state park, check Hipcamp for private farm and forest sites in the Quiet Corner, there are some gems within 15 miles of Plainfield Village.
portal.ct.gov/deep/state-parks/camping/camping-reservationsWhat are driving conditions like around Plainfield Village?
Driving an RV around Plainfield Village is genuinely manageable, this is rural eastern Connecticut. I-395 runs right through town with wide lanes and modest traffic, making north south travel easy. Route 14A and Route 12 are the main local roads, both well paved and RV friendly. Watch for low clearance railroad bridges in nearby Moosup and Jewett City, and avoid Route 169 north of Canterbury if you're in a tall Class A, it's a scenic byway with tight historic village turns. Winter brings snow and occasional ice from December to March. Pro tip: check CT DOT's real time traveler info before a long haul, and use an RV specific GPS or app that flags low bridges and steep grades.

Many state park sites do have electric. Dump stations are available at Hopeville Pond State Park and several private parks. Pro tip: top off your fresh water tank at the campground entrance before pulling into a state park site, individual sites often don't have water at the pad.
portal.ct.gov/deep/state-parks/camping/camping-in-connecticut-state-parks-and-forestsWhat's actually inside an RV rental from Plainfield Village?
More than you'd think, today's RVs are basically apartments on wheels. A typical motorhome rental Plainfield Village comes with a fully equipped kitchen (fridge, stove, microwave, sink, cookware), a bathroom with toilet and shower, heating and air conditioning, a dinette that converts to a bed, a queen bedroom, and outdoor amenities like an awning. Class C and Class A rigs include seatbelted seating for travel. Many hosts include linens, kitchen starter kits, outdoor chairs, and sometimes a TV with antenna or streaming. Generators are common in motorhomes, and Wi-Fi varies (a cellular hotspot is reliable on most of I-395). Pro tip: check the listing's amenities list and message the host if you need something specific like a coffee maker or pack-n-play.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Plainfield%20Village%2C%20ConnecticutWhat add-ons and pickup options should I know about?
Local hosts offer plenty of options to customize your trip. Common add-ons include linen and towel packages, kitchen kits, outdoor patio sets, bikes and kayaks, generator hours for off grid trips, and propane refills. Pickup and dropoff are usually at the host's home or a nearby meeting spot, and many hosts in Windham and New London counties offer delivery to popular spots like Hopeville Pond State Park or Stateline Campresort. Mileage policies vary, some hosts offer unlimited mileage (great for a longer RV road trip from Plainfield Village), others include 100 to 150 miles per night with a per mile fee beyond that. Pro tip: bundle a delivery plus linen package and you'll roll into your campsite with virtually nothing to set up.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Plainfield%20Village%2C%20ConnecticutHow does payment and the security deposit work?
Payment is handled entirely through RVezy, so no cash, no checks, and no awkward driveway transactions. You'll pay the rental total plus taxes and your chosen protection plan at booking using a credit or debit card. A separate refundable security deposit is pre authorized on your card before pickup and released after dropoff, assuming no damage and the RV is returned with the agreed fuel and tank levels. To avoid surprise charges, do a quick walkaround video at pickup and dropoff, and dump the gray and black tanks before returning (or pay the host's dumping fee). Pro tip: use a credit card with a high enough limit to absorb the deposit hold comfortably.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksAre RVs available for winter rentals in Plainfield Village?
Yes, winter RV rental in Plainfield Village is absolutely an option, and it's an underrated way to experience the Quiet Corner. Many local hosts offer four season rigs with heated holding tanks, enclosed underbellies, and propane furnaces, perfect for ski trips north to Vermont or New Hampshire or cozy weekends at a state forest. Plainfield Village winters typically run 20 to 35 degrees with regular snow from December through March, so you'll want a rig rated for cold weather, ask the host directly. Most Connecticut state park campgrounds close November to April, but some private parks and many northern New England ski area RV lots stay open. Pro tip: filter for hosts mentioning heated tanks and shore power hookups for stress free winter camping.
