Campgrounds and RV parks near Weatogue, CT

Weatogue is a village within Simsbury, in Hartford County, Connecticut, sitting along the Farmington River in the north-central part of the state. Its central location puts RV travelers within a short drive of state forests in the Litchfield Hills, private family campgrounds along the Massachusetts border, and lakefront parks closer to the Connecticut River valley. Options range from rustic state-forest camping to full-service private resorts. American Legion State Forest, listed on the state's reservation portal as American Legion SF (Hawes), offers wooded, river-adjacent sites along the West Branch of the Farmington River. Private grounds such as Southwick Acres Campgrounds, Sodom Mountain Campground, White Pines Campsites, and Bear Creek Lake Compounce Campground add pool access, planned activities, and family-oriented amenities. Most campgrounds within an hour of Weatogue accommodate travel trailers and Class C motorhomes. Larger Class A rigs should confirm site length and low-branch clearance before booking, particularly at older state-forest loops where sites were laid out decades ago.

Connecticut's Department of Energy and Environmental Protection runs a toll-free telephone and online system to reserve campsites at state park and forest campgrounds, including rustic cabins, through ReserveAmerica or by calling 1-877-668-CAMP. Reservations are accepted 11 months in advance of the camping stay, and popular summer weekends can sell out quickly once the window opens. Private campgrounds such as Southwick Acres Campgrounds, Sodom Mountain Campground, White Pines Campsites, and Bear Creek Lake Compounce Campground handle reservations directly through their own websites or by phone. Many require a deposit at booking and enforce strict cancellation windows during peak weeks. When booking with a rental RV, note total length including any tow vehicle, plus slide-out clearance, and match that to the site type before confirming.
