Campgrounds near Pinewood, Florida
Pinewood is an unincorporated community in northern Miami-Dade County, positioned between downtown Miami and the Broward County line. RV travelers using Pinewood as a base sit within easy reach of Biscayne Bay, the northern Everglades, and the Fort Lauderdale metro area, with campground options concentrated along the Miami-Dade and southern Broward corridor rather than inside Pinewood itself.
Close-in options include Florida Park Miami for travelers who want to stay inside the county, plus Twin Lakes Travel Park in Davie for a larger full-hookup park with more amenities. Heading north into Broward, Hollywood KOA, Northcoast Park and Marina near Dania Beach, and Yacht Haven Park and Marina in Fort Lauderdale add beach access and marina-adjacent sites.
Most campgrounds in this corridor are private RV parks with paved or gravel pads, full hookups, and pools. Public land camping requires a longer drive south to Everglades National Park or west toward Big Cypress National Preserve.
Things to do near Pinewood
From a Pinewood base, day trips split three ways: beaches to the east, wetlands to the west, and urban attractions in Miami and Fort Lauderdale. Miami Beach, Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park on Key Biscayne, and Hollywood Beach are all within roughly 30 minutes by road. Zoo Miami, Vizcaya Museum and Gardens, and the Venetian Pool in Coral Gables give families rainy-day and shoulder-season options.
Everglades National Park is about an hour southwest and offers airboat tours, sawgrass boardwalks, and wildlife viewing that reliably includes alligators and wading birds. Biscayne National Park, southeast of the city, is largely water-based, with reef snorkeling and boat tours out of Convoy Point. Oleta River State Park near Sunny Isles is the closest public paddling and mountain-biking destination.

South Florida runs on a dry-season, wet-season calendar rather than the four-season pattern most RVers know. The dry season, roughly mid-October through mid-May, is peak camping time: warm days, cool nights, low mosquito pressure, and minimal rain. Snowbird traffic fills private RV parks from December through March, and reservations for that window commonly need to be locked in several months ahead.
The wet season begins in mid-May and runs through mid-October, bringing daily afternoon thunderstorms, high humidity, and heavy mosquito activity in the Everglades. Atlantic hurricane season overlaps almost exactly, running June 1 through November 30, with peak risk from mid-August through late September.
Shoulder months, late April into May and again in November, tend to offer the best balance of warm weather, manageable crowds, and easier bookings. Summer camping is viable for heat-tolerant travelers but works best at parks with pools and shade.

How to book campgrounds near Pinewood
Private RV parks in the Miami and Fort Lauderdale corridor, including Florida Park Miami, Hollywood KOA, Northcoast Park and Marina, Twin Lakes Travel Park, and Yacht Haven Park and Marina, take reservations directly through their own websites or by phone. Winter sites at these parks book out first, often filling weeks or months in advance for January through March stays.
For Florida State Parks such as Oleta River, reservations go through the state's central system at floridastateparks.org or by phone. Florida residents can book up to 11 months in advance, and non-residents up to 10 months, with new inventory released daily at 8 a.m. Eastern.
Everglades National Park campgrounds at Long Pine Key and Flamingo are reserved through recreation.gov, with an electric-hookup loop at Flamingo available for RVs.
What to expect at Pinewood-area campgrounds
Expect urban and suburban RV parks rather than wilderness camping. Sites in the Miami-Dade and southern Broward corridor tend to be close together with limited privacy, paved or gravel pads, and mature landscaping providing partial shade. Full hookups, pools, laundry, and Wi-Fi are common at private parks, and pet policies are generally accommodating.
Big-rig access varies. Some older parks have tight interior loops that challenge longer motorhomes and fifth wheels, so it is worth confirming site length, turning radius, and pull-through availability at booking. Cell service is reliable near Pinewood and across the metro area but degrades quickly once travelers head west into the Everglades.
Security, gated entries, and on-site staff are standard at the larger parks. Traffic noise from I-95, the Palmetto Expressway, and the Florida Turnpike is a factor at properties near those corridors.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Pinewood, FL
How much does it cost to rent an RV in Pinewood, FL?
RV rental in Pinewood is more affordable than you might expect for the Miami metro area. Motorhome rentals average around $200 per night, while travel trailers and campervans typically run closer to $120 per night, with many hosts offering 10 to 20 percent discounts on weekly and monthly bookings. For a cheap RV rental in Pinewood, filter for travel trailers or smaller Class C motorhomes and aim for shoulder season (late April through early November) when South Florida snowbird demand drops and nightly rates often fall 15 to 25 percent. Pro tip: book midweek pickups to dodge weekend pricing surges around Miami events like Art Basel and Ultra.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Pinewood,%20FloridaDo I need a special license to rent an RV in Pinewood?
Good news: a regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Pinewood, FL. Florida law specifically exempts personal-use recreational vehicles from Commercial Driver's License (CDL) requirements regardless of the rig's weight, so whether you're renting a nimble campervan or a 35-foot Class A motorhome, your standard license works. You'll just need to be 25 or older to book on RVezy, and we verify your ID right through the platform in minutes. Visiting from outside the US? Bring an International Driving Permit (IDP) alongside your home-country license. Most first-time renters are surprised how quick the whole process is, you can be approved and booked within a day.

The protection plan covers physical damage to the RV during your trip, giving you real peace of mind whether you are cruising up I-95 or exploring near the Everglades. You choose your coverage level during checkout (not the host), so you can pick what fits your trip. Roadside help is one tap away if you ever get a flat tire on the Florida Turnpike or need a jump start. Pro tip: review the plan options on RVezy before booking so you know exactly what is covered.

If a host cancels on you, RVezy helps you find a replacement RV or issues a refund or travel credit. The full details are available on the RVezy Help Center and during checkout. Pro tip: book early to lock in your dates in South Florida's busy winter season, then revisit your plans well before your trip if anything changes.

miamidade.gov/global/parks/larry-and-penny-thompson-park.pageCan the RV be delivered to my campground or house in Pinewood?
Absolutely, RV delivery in Pinewood is one of the most popular options on RVezy, especially for first-time renters who would rather skip driving a big rig through Miami traffic on I-95 or the Palmetto Expressway. Many hosts will deliver your motorhome rental in Pinewood right to your driveway, a friend's house, or directly to campgrounds like Larry and Penny Thompson Park or Miami Everglades RV Resort. They will level the RV, hook up water and electric, and walk you through every system before they leave. Delivery fees usually run $2 to $4 per mile round-trip from the host's location. help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsHow far can I travel on an RV rental from Pinewood?
You have huge range from Pinewood. Most hosts include 100 to 150 free miles per night, and many offer unlimited mileage add-ons for longer trips. From Pinewood, you can easily reach Key Largo (about 65 miles south, around 90 minutes), Everglades National Park's Flamingo entrance (about 90 miles southwest), Naples on the Gulf Coast (around 125 miles west via Alligator Alley), West Palm Beach (about 75 miles north), and Orlando (around 235 miles, about four hours up the Florida Turnpike). An RV road trip from Pinewood down the Overseas Highway to Key West is roughly 165 miles one way and one of the most scenic drives in America. Pro tip: ask hosts about unlimited mileage options if you are planning multi-stop adventures.
nps.gov/ever/planyourvisit/directions.htmWhere should I camp during my Pinewood RV trip?
You are spoiled for choice for RV camping near Pinewood. Larry and Penny Thompson Park in Miami-Dade (about 25 miles south) offers full-hookup sites across wooded acres next to Zoo Miami, with a freshwater lake. Miami Everglades RV Resort in Homestead (about 35 miles southwest) sits among tropical groves, with a heated pool and easy access to Everglades National Park. Yacht Haven Park and Marina in Fort Lauderdale (about 25 miles north) has full hookups close to the water. For a Keys getaway, Key Largo Kampground (about 75 miles south) puts you on the Atlantic. Pro tip: South Florida campgrounds fill up fast November through April, so reserve at least two to three months ahead.
miamidade.gov/global/parks/larry-and-penny-thompson-park.pageWhen is the best time of year for an RV trip from Pinewood?
The sweet spot for a Pinewood RV trip is November through April, when daytime highs sit in the comfortable 70s to low 80s F, humidity drops, mosquitoes ease up, and the Everglades come alive with wildlife as water levels recede. December and January overnight lows around 60 F make for pleasant sleeping weather. Late spring and summer (May through October) bring frequent 90 F heat, high humidity, daily afternoon thunderstorms, and Atlantic hurricane season (June 1 to November 30), so plan for AC-heavy days and keep an eye on forecasts. Pro tip: shoulder months like late April and early November give you great weather and noticeably cheaper rates before snowbirds arrive.
weather.gov/mfl/I have never rented an RV before. How does this work?
First time renting an RV? You are in great company, most Pinewood renters are first-timers. When you book through RVezy, your host gives you a full walkthrough at pickup or delivery, showing you exactly how to operate the generator, awning, slide-outs, water and waste tanks, propane, and AC. They will answer every question and you can text them throughout your trip. You can also message any host before booking. For peace of mind, start with a Class C motorhome or travel trailer (easier to drive than a 35-foot Class A) and consider delivery so you do not have to tow or pilot it through Miami traffic. Pro tip: spend your first night close to home so you can ease into the experience.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat happens if something goes wrong on the road?
You are never on your own. Every RV rental in Pinewood, FL booked with a protection plan includes 24/7 roadside assistance, covering things like flat tires, dead batteries, lockouts, and towing. If you get stuck on the Florida Turnpike, on Alligator Alley heading to Naples, or way out on US-1 in the Keys, one phone call gets help dispatched. Your host is also just a text away for questions about the RV's systems, like how to switch the fridge from shore power to propane. RVezy customer support is available before, during, and after your trip. Pro tip: snap photos of the RV at pickup so any issues are easy to document.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take the RV across state lines or into the Keys?
Yes, an RV road trip from Pinewood across Florida and into neighboring states is completely doable and one of the best parts of renting. You can cruise down US-1 through the Florida Keys all the way to Key West, head up I-95 to Savannah or the Outer Banks, or roll west through the Panhandle. Cross-border travel into Canada may be allowed depending on the host and the protection plan, so confirm with the host and RVezy support before booking that kind of trip. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because protection coverage does not extend there. Pro tip: the Seven Mile Bridge at Marathon is unforgettable, plan a sunset stop.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityHow much should I budget for fuel on a Pinewood RV trip?
Fuel is the biggest variable cost, but it is easy to plan for. Class C motorhomes typically get 8 to 12 miles per gallon, Class A rigs average 6 to 10 mpg, and a campervan rental in Pinewood (Class B) can hit 15 to 20 mpg. Florida gas prices generally hover near the national average, and there are plenty of truck-friendly stations along I-95, the Florida Turnpike, and US-1. For a typical 500-mile loop to the Keys and back, budget roughly $150 to $250 in fuel for a Class C. Pro tip: use a fuel price app and fill up in less touristy areas like Florida City before heading into the Keys, where prices spike noticeably.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Pinewood?
Plan ahead, especially in winter. South Florida is snowbird central from November through April, and the best campgrounds near Pinewood often fill four to six months ahead. Florida State Parks like Oleta River and John Pennekamp Coral Reef (in Key Largo) open reservations 11 months in advance through the Florida State Parks reservation system, and snowbird favorites can book out quickly when the window opens. Larry and Penny Thompson Park takes reservations through Miami-Dade Parks. For summer trips (June to August), you can often book just two to three weeks out. Pro tip: set a calendar reminder for exactly 11 months before your desired arrival date and book the moment the window opens for state parks.
floridastateparks.org/parks-and-trails/oleta-river-state-parkWhat is it like driving an RV around Pinewood and Miami?
Pinewood sits just off I-95 about 8 miles north of downtown Miami, so the area is highway-friendly, but Miami traffic is real, especially weekday rush hour (7 to 9 am and 4 to 7 pm) and Sunday evenings on the Turnpike heading back from the Keys. Watch for low clearances under bridges in older parts of Miami Beach and on side streets off NW 7th Avenue (US-441). Hurricane season (June to November) can bring sudden heavy rain, pull over and wait it out if visibility drops. If urban driving makes you nervous, choose RV delivery in Pinewood and have the host bring the rig straight to your campground. Pro tip: leave Pinewood before 7 am for Keys trips to beat the bridge backups.
fdot.gov/What amenities will I find at campgrounds near Pinewood?
South Florida campgrounds are well-equipped. Most RV parks near Pinewood, including Larry and Penny Thompson Park, Miami Everglades RV Resort, and Yacht Haven Park, offer full hookups (30/50-amp electric, water, sewer), on-site dump stations, potable water fill, WiFi, hot showers, laundry, and pools. Larry and Penny even has a freshwater lake and beach area. For dumping or filling water mid-trip, the dump stations at Larry and Penny Thompson and at Markham Park in Sunrise are reliable options. Pro tip: arrive with full fresh water and empty waste tanks so you do not have to scramble on day one, your host will show you exactly how everything works.
miamidade.gov/global/parks/larry-and-penny-thompson-park.pageWhat is included inside a typical Pinewood RV rental?
You will be impressed by how dialed-in most rentals are. A typical Pinewood RV rental sleeps 4 to 8, with a queen or king bed, convertible dinette, full kitchen (fridge, stove, microwave, sink), bathroom with shower and toilet, roof AC for those hot Miami afternoons, and a TV (many with streaming setups). Most include kitchenware, linens, and outdoor chairs. Larger Class A and Class C motorhomes have generators for boondocking, while campervans run efficient house batteries. Every motorized RV has seatbelts for travel. WiFi varies, some hosts include mobile hotspots as an add-on. Pro tip: check the listing's amenities tab and message the host to confirm what is included so you only pack what you actually need.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Pinewood,%20FloridaWhat add-ons and pickup options should I know about?
Hosts in Pinewood offer some genuinely useful add-ons that can make your trip easier. Common options include linens and kitchen kits ($25 to $75), generator hours for boondocking ($3 to $5 per hour beyond the included amount), bike racks, kayaks, beach gear, portable grills, and pet cleaning fees ($25 to $75). Many hosts also offer one-way trips on popular routes (Pinewood to Orlando or to Key West), just message them through the listing to ask. Mileage policies typically include 100 to 150 miles per night, with extra miles at $0.30 to $0.50 each, or unlimited mileage upgrades for road trippers. Pro tip: bundle add-ons up front, it is almost always cheaper than adding them mid-trip.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Pinewood,%20FloridaHow do payments and security deposits work?
Payment is simple and secure: you pay through RVezy at booking using a credit card, never directly to the host, which keeps everything documented and protected. A refundable security deposit (typically $500 to $1,500 depending on the RV) is placed on hold before your trip and released after a successful return, assuming no damage or missing items. To avoid any deposit issues, do a quick walkthrough video at pickup and return, return the RV with the same fuel and propane levels you got it with, and dump tanks if required (or pay the dump fee, often $50 to $100). Pro tip: keep all gas station receipts as proof of your top-off.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksHow do I handle Florida heat and hurricane season in an RV?
Pinewood summers are hot and humid, with highs in the upper 80s to low 90s F and tropical thunderstorms most afternoons, but RVs handle it beautifully. Every motorhome rental in Pinewood comes with rooftop AC, and most parks offer 50-amp service so you can run AC and appliances simultaneously without issue. Drive in the morning when temperatures and traffic are lower, and park in shaded sites when possible (Larry and Penny Thompson has loads of mature trees). Atlantic hurricane season runs June 1 to November 30, peaking August to October, check the National Hurricane Center daily and have a flexible route. Pro tip: shoulder season (late October to early December) often gives you pleasant weather with less storm risk and lower rates.
