RV camping near Henderson, Georgia
Henderson is an unincorporated community and census-designated place in western Chatham County, Georgia, sitting just off I-95 at exit 94 along the Abercorn Expressway (State Route 204). Downtown Savannah is about 15 miles northeast, which puts Henderson within a short drive of the coastal Georgia campgrounds that serve the Savannah metro area. Most RV travelers use Henderson as a base for exploring the historic district, Tybee Island beaches, and the surrounding Lowcountry.
The closest full-service option is CreekFire Resort, a lakefront RV resort with full-hookup sites and cabins about 20 minutes from downtown Savannah. Other nearby choices along the I-95 corridor include Spacious Skies Savannah Oaks, Biltmore RV Park, Red Gate Campground and RV Resort, and Savannah South KOA Holiday.
Combined, these parks offer big-rig pull-throughs, family amenities, and easy highway access, so most travelers can pick a site based on layout and amenity preferences rather than proximity alone.
Things to do near Henderson
Savannah's Historic District is the main draw. Old Town Trolley Tours stop at Forsyth Park, River Street, and Bonaventure Cemetery, and River Street itself is a historic riverfront lined with shops, galleries, and restaurants in former cotton warehouses.
Coastal day trips are easy from Henderson. Tybee Island's beaches and lighthouse sit less than an hour east, and Hilton Head, South Carolina is a short drive north. Fort Pulaski and Fort McAllister add Civil War history, and Skidaway Island State Park offers about six miles of trails through maritime forest and salt marsh boardwalks.
On-site, most nearby RV resorts add pools, splash pads, playgrounds, and lakefront amenities, which keeps kids busy on rest days between trips into the city.

Coastal Chatham County has a humid subtropical climate with hot, oppressive summers and short, mild winters. Temperatures typically range from the low 40s in January to the low 90s in July, and rain falls year-round with a summer peak. August is usually the wettest month, averaging around 4 to 6 inches of rainfall.
Spring and fall are the most comfortable stretches for RV travel and generally the busiest booking windows. Summer is hot and humid with frequent afternoon thunderstorms, and it overlaps with Atlantic hurricane season, which runs June through November and peaks in September. Travelers should watch NHC forecasts and check park cancellation policies before booking coastal sites during that window.
Winter stays mild enough that most area campgrounds remain open year-round. Note that Georgia State Parks occasionally close loops for renovation, and Skidaway Island State Park is currently in a partial campground renovation scheduled to last about a year, so confirm availability before booking there.
How to book a site near Henderson
Private RV resorts in the area, including CreekFire Resort, Spacious Skies Savannah Oaks, Biltmore RV Park, Red Gate Campground and RV Resort, and Savannah South KOA Holiday, take reservations directly through their own websites or through third-party booking platforms. Site type (back-in vs. pull-through, gravel vs. concrete, full hookup) is worth confirming at booking, especially for larger rigs.
Georgia State Parks such as Skidaway Island and Fort McAllister book through the state's ReserveAmerica-powered reservation system, with sites available up to 13 months in advance for out-of-state visitors and 14 months for Georgia residents. A ParkPass is required for every vehicle entering a state park and is charged separately from the campsite fee. Popular weekends and holidays fill early, so book coastal state park sites as far ahead as possible.
What to expect on the ground
Expect flat, low-elevation terrain, sandy soils, and shaded sites under live oaks draped with Spanish moss. Bugs, particularly mosquitoes and no-see-ums, are active from spring through fall, so pack repellent and consider screened outdoor gear.
Most private resorts near Henderson are big-rig friendly with full hookups, paved or gravel pads, and modern bathhouses. State park sites at Skidaway Island and Fort McAllister lean more rustic but include water and electric, with some full-hookup sites available. Pets are generally welcome at campsites but not inside camper cabins at Georgia State Parks.
Highway noise can be a factor at parks closest to I-95, and cellular coverage is generally strong across the Savannah metro. Reservations are strongly recommended year-round, especially on spring weekends and around St. Patrick's Day in Savannah.

How much does it cost to rent an RV in Henderson, GA?

On RVezy, travel trailers in this area typically start around $90 to $130 per night, Class C motorhomes run $150 to $250, and larger Class A motorhomes range $200 to $350. To find a cheap RV rental Henderson travelers love, book mid-week stays in spring or fall, choose a delivered travel trailer to save on fuel, and look for hosts offering multi-night discounts. rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Henderson%2C%20GeorgiaWhat license do I need to rent an RV in Henderson, GA?
Great news for first-time renters: a regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Henderson. Georgia does not require a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or any special endorsement to operate motorhomes or tow travel trailers for personal use, even larger Class A rigs. To book on RVezy, you must be 25 or older with a valid driver's license, and your ID is verified through the platform in just a few minutes. Visiting from outside the US? Bring an International Driving Permit (IDP) along with your home-country license. Most guests are pleasantly surprised at how quick approval is, so you can shift focus to planning your Henderson RV trip down to Andersonville or out to Jekyll Island.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsIs RV rental in Henderson, GA covered by protection and roadside assistance?
Yes, and this is one of the best reasons to book through RVezy. Every RV rental in Henderson includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you're covered for most common issues from the moment you pull out of the driveway. During checkout, you'll choose from several protection plan tiers depending on how much coverage and how low a deductible you want, with higher tiers covering more damage to the vehicle. It provides serious financial peace of mind, especially for first-time renters tackling Georgia's I-75 corridor. Pick your protection level based on your route: heading into Atlanta traffic or down to the coast, most renters go with a higher tier for extra confidence.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat if my plans change after I book my Henderson RV?
Booking is low-risk. RVezy, not the individual host, sets the cancellation policy for every reservation, and it includes a grace period after booking during which you can cancel for a full refund. After that, refund amounts depend on how far out you are from your trip start date. Our customer support team is available before, during, and after your trip to help if anything shifts. Book early to lock in the best Henderson RV rentals for peak weekends like Masters week in April or Georgia football Saturdays, knowing you've got flexibility built in.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a Henderson, GA RV rental?
Yes, and you'll find plenty of pet-friendly RV rental Henderson options on RVezy. Toggle the Pet-Friendly filter when you search, and you'll see rigs whose hosts welcome four-legged co-pilots (some charge a small pet fee, listed clearly on the listing). Georgia is wonderfully dog-friendly: General Coffee State Park and High Falls State Park both allow leashed pets at campsites and on trails, and Macon's Amerson River Park (about 35 minutes north of Henderson) has off-leash areas along the Ocmulgee River. Pack a collapsible water bowl and a cooling mat. Summer pavement in Middle Georgia gets hot fast, so early-morning walks are a must.
gastateparks.org/PetPolicyCan the RV be delivered to my campsite in Henderson, GA?
Yes, RV delivery in Henderson is one of the easiest ways to start your trip, especially if it's your first time. Many RVezy hosts in nearby Warner Robins, Perry, Macon, and Hawkinsville offer delivery directly to local campgrounds like General Coffee State Park or to a private property or driveway. The host drops off the RV, levels it, hooks up water and power, and walks you through every system from the awning to the water heater. You just show up and start the trip. Use the Delivery filter on RVezy to see hosts who offer this service and their per-mile rates. Delivery is a smart pick for travel trailers, since you skip the towing learning curve entirely.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Henderson%2C%20GeorgiaHow far can I drive on an RV rental from Henderson, GA?
You've got serious range from Henderson. Sitting right off I-75 in Houston County, Henderson is a great launchpad for an RV trip in just about any direction. Most RVezy hosts include a generous daily mileage allowance (often 100 to 150 miles per day) and many offer unlimited mileage packages as an add-on. Popular routes include Savannah (about 160 miles east), Jekyll Island (around 220 miles southeast), the Okefenokee Swamp (about 170 miles south), Helen in the North Georgia mountains (around 220 miles north), and Panama City Beach, Florida (around 320 miles southwest). If you're planning a longer loop, message the host before booking to ask about an unlimited-mileage upgrade, which usually pays for itself by day three.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Henderson%2C%20GeorgiaWhere are the best campgrounds near Henderson, GA?
You're spoiled for choice. The best campgrounds near Henderson include General Coffee State Park (about an hour south in Nicholls) with full hookups under live oaks and a heritage farm; High Falls State Park (45 minutes north toward Jackson) with waterfalls and a large lake; Lake Tobesofkee Recreation Area in Macon (about 35 minutes north) with lakeside campgrounds; Georgia Veterans State Park on Lake Blackshear (about an hour southwest) with full-service sites and a golf course; and Fair Harbor RV Park in Perry (15 minutes away) with pull-throughs that suit big rigs. Georgia State Parks let you reserve up to 13 months ahead, and waterfront sites at High Falls go fast for spring and fall weekends.
gastateparks.org/CampingWhen is the best time to visit Henderson, GA in an RV?
The sweet spots are mid-March through May and mid-September through early November, when Middle Georgia trades summer humidity for crisp 60 to 80 degree days perfect for grilling at your campsite. Spring brings dogwoods and azaleas across Houston County and the Cherry Blossom Festival in nearby Macon (late March). Fall delivers pecan harvests, cooler nights, and beautiful color at High Falls State Park. Summer (June to August) is hot and humid with highs in the low 90s and afternoon thunderstorms, but RV AC handles it easily and the lakes are calling. Winters are mild (40s to 60s), making Henderson an excellent off-season RV destination. Book a shoulder-season weekend for cheaper nightly rates and your pick of premium campsites.
weather.gov/ffc/I've never driven an RV before. Will I be okay renting one in Henderson, GA?
Yes, this is one of the best places to learn. Henderson sits in a rural, low-traffic part of Houston County with wide rural highways and easy I-75 on-ramps, ideal for getting comfortable behind the wheel. Every RVezy host gives you a full walkthrough at pickup covering driving, leveling, hookups, slide-outs, the generator, and tank management, plus you can text or call them throughout your trip with questions. Many local hosts also offer delivery, so you can skip the driving entirely on a travel trailer. Do a short practice loop around Perry or Warner Robins before heading to your campground. Twenty minutes of low-stakes driving builds huge confidence for the open road.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat happens if something goes wrong with my RV on the road?
You're never on your own. Every RV rental in Henderson on RVezy includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan, so help is one phone call away whether you have a flat tire on I-75, a dead battery at a state park, or need a tow. Your host is also typically reachable by phone or message and knows the rig inside out, so for smaller issues like a tricky slide-out or finicky water pump, they can usually talk you through it in minutes. RVezy's support team backs everything up before, during, and after your trip. Snap a quick photo of the RV's fuse panel and propane shutoff at pickup. It speeds up any troubleshooting call.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Henderson, GA RV rental on a road trip to other states?
Yes, interstate travel is welcomed on most RVezy bookings, and Henderson is a phenomenal launchpad. Popular RV road trips from Henderson include heading south on I-75 to Florida (Tampa and St. Augustine are both under six hours), east to South Carolina's Charleston and Myrtle Beach, north into Tennessee's Smoky Mountains, and west to the Gulf Coast through Alabama. Travel to Mexico is not allowed on RVezy rentals due to insurance limitations, but the entire continental US is fair game. Always send the host a quick message before booking to confirm your route, since some owners limit total distance. I-75 South can be busy on Friday afternoons, so leave early Saturday morning for an easier drive to Florida.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat's the fuel economy like, and how much should I budget for gas?
Easier to plan than you'd think. Travel trailers don't burn fuel themselves (your tow vehicle does), Class B campervans typically get 18 to 22 MPG, Class C motorhomes get 8 to 12 MPG, and big Class A motorhomes average 7 to 10 MPG. Georgia gas prices tend to run below the national average thanks to a lower state fuel tax, so filling up in Henderson, Perry, or Warner Robins is usually a bargain. For a 500-mile loop in a Class C, budget roughly $150 to $200 in fuel at current prices. Buc-ee's just off I-75 in Warner Robins has over 100 pumps with diesel, propane access nearby, and clean restrooms, making it a perfect Middle Georgia fuel stop.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Henderson, GA?
For Georgia State Parks, you can reserve up to 13 months ahead, and we strongly recommend that for any spring or fall weekend at High Falls, General Coffee, or Georgia Veterans State Park, which book out fast. For private parks like Fair Harbor RV Park in Perry or Twin Oaks RV Park in Elko, 2 to 4 weeks ahead is usually plenty outside of major events. Heads up: the Georgia National Fair in Perry (early-to-mid October) and Masters week in April pack every campsite within 90 miles of Henderson, so book 6+ months out for those. Midweek arrivals (Sunday through Thursday) are far easier to snag and often run 20 to 30 percent cheaper at private parks.
gastateparks.org/ReservationsWhat are driving conditions like around Henderson, GA?
Driving an RV around Henderson is genuinely pleasant. The area is flat to gently rolling, traffic outside of Macon is light, and I-75 (just minutes from town) is a wide, well-maintained four-to-six lane interstate. US-341 and GA-26 are scenic two-lane country highways perfect for a relaxed pace. Summer afternoons bring quick thunderstorms (June through August), so pull over and wait them out for 20 minutes if visibility drops. Watch for low-clearance signs in older parts of Macon and Perry's historic downtown, where some bridges sit at 11 to 12 feet. Most Class C rigs are 10 to 11 feet tall, so confirm your RV's height at pickup and avoid downtown drive-thrus. Stick to the main commercial corridors and you'll have zero issues.
511ga.org/What amenities will I find at campgrounds near Henderson, GA?
You'll be well taken care of. Most campgrounds near Henderson, including Georgia State Parks like High Falls and General Coffee plus private parks like Fair Harbor RV Park, offer full hookups with 30/50-amp electric, fresh water, and sewer at the site, along with on-site dump stations, potable water fill stations, hot showers, laundry, and Wi-Fi. State parks add bonuses like swimming lakes, hiking trails, fishing piers, and visitor centers. Cell service is solid across Houston County on all major carriers. If you're boondocking or staying somewhere without sewer, the dump station at Lake Tobesofkee in Macon is open to the public for a small fee, and many travel centers along I-75 also offer dump and freshwater fills.
gastateparks.org/CampingWhat features and amenities come standard in a Henderson, GA RV rental?
More than you'd expect. Most motorhome rental Henderson listings come fully equipped with a queen or king bed, convertible dinettes and sofas for extra sleepers, a full kitchen (stove, oven, microwave, fridge/freezer, sink, and cookware), a bathroom with shower and toilet, roof-mounted air conditioning, a furnace, and a flat-screen TV. Many include a generator, outdoor awning, Bluetooth stereo, and seatbelts for every passenger. Campervan rental Henderson options (Class B) are more compact but include a kitchenette, bed, and often a wet bath. Some hosts add Starlink Wi-Fi, bike racks, outdoor griddles, and camp chairs. Check each listing's amenities list carefully and message the host if you need something specific, like a CPAP-compatible inverter or a pack-n-play.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Henderson%2C%20GeorgiaWhat add-ons and options can I get with my Henderson, GA RV rental?
Quite a few, and they can transform your trip. RVezy hosts in the Henderson area commonly offer delivery and setup ($2 to $4 per mile typically), kitchen kits with dishes and utensils ($25 to $50), bedding and linen packages ($30 to $75), generator use ($3 to $5 per hour or included), unlimited mileage upgrades, bike racks, propane fills, and even pre-stocked groceries. Pickup is usually at the host's home in Perry, Warner Robins, or Macon, and dropoff happens at the same location at an agreed time. Mileage policies vary by host, with 100 to 150 free miles per day being standard. Bundle delivery plus a kitchen kit plus linens on your first trip. You'll arrive at the campground with the RV already set up and ready to live in.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Henderson%2C%20GeorgiaHow does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
It's straightforward and secure. When you book an RV rental in Henderson on RVezy, you pay the full rental amount (plus any add-ons and fees) through our secure platform using a credit or debit card, so no cash changes hands with the host. A refundable security deposit is held separately, typically $500 to $1,500 depending on the RV, and it's released back to your original payment method shortly after the trip ends, assuming the RV comes back in the same condition. To avoid any holds on your deposit, take time-stamped photos at pickup and dropoff, return the RV with the agreed fuel and propane level, and follow the host's pet and smoking rules. Do a walkthrough video on your phone at pickup. It's the easiest way to protect yourself and breeze through dropoff.
