Campgrounds and RV parks near Algonquin, MD

Algonquin is a small census-designated place in Dorchester County on Maryland's Eastern Shore, bordered to the north by the tidal Choptank River and adjacent to the city of Cambridge. The area sits in the mid-Chesapeake region often called the Heart of the Chesapeake, with extensive tidal wetlands across the surrounding county. RV travelers use Algonquin as a base for waterfront camping on the Choptank and Nanticoke rivers, Chesapeake Bay shorelines, and inland lakes. Options within roughly an hour's drive include Taylors Island Family Campgrounds along the bay, Sandy Hill Family Camp on the Nanticoke River, Roaring Point Waterfront Campground also on the Nanticoke, Camp Todd on Lake Williston in Denton, and Martinak State Park along the Choptank River and Watts Creek. The mix ranges from a state-run park with electric sites and cabins to family-run private campgrounds oriented around fishing, crabbing, and sunset views. Terrain is flat, sites are typically shaded or partially wooded, and most parks are within a short drive of Cambridge for groceries, fuel, and supplies.
