Campgrounds and RV parks near Aquasco, MD

The Potomac and Patuxent rivers dominate the recreation menu. Goose Bay Marina and Campground offers three boat ramps and waterfront campsites on the Port Tobacco River at its confluence with the Potomac, making it a practical base for boaters and anglers. Aqua Land Campground also has a boat launch and beach access on the Potomac near the US 301 bridge, with fishing for striped bass, catfish and perch. On land, Cedarville State Forest - Family carries the bulk of the hiking, with a four-acre stocked pond, a color-blazed trail network, and a designated hunting area. Hunting is permitted on part of the forest, so plan around hunting seasons and consider blaze orange during deer and turkey season. For families based at Adventure Bound Camping Resorts - Washington DC, the campground works as a base for the National Mall, Annapolis, and Six Flags America, with Metro access via the Green Line at Branch Avenue.

Camping season in southern Maryland runs mainly April through October. Cedarville State Forest's campground is open from April to October, matching the pattern at most Maryland state park campgrounds in the region. Private parks including Goose Bay and Aqua Land keep sites open longer, and Goose Bay Marina and Campground operates on winter hours from December through March and summer hours from April through November. Summer brings hot, humid weather and afternoon thunderstorms, plus peak demand. From Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day there is a two-night minimum stay at Cedarville, and holiday weekends require a three-night minimum. Mosquitoes and ticks peak from late June through August, and biting insects typically ease by mid-September. Spring and fall are the most comfortable windows for tent and RV travel, with lower humidity and fall color across the hardwood forest. Winter is quiet: state-forest camping is closed, some private marinas run reduced hours, and cold snaps can freeze water lines at RV sites without four-season plumbing.

Sites vary widely in style. Cedarville State Forest - Family has 27 sites at about 196 feet of elevation, with electric hookups on the inner loop and non-powered sites for tent camping on the outer loop. The narrow camp road requires careful navigation when backing in, with a 35-foot length limit for recreational vehicles. Private parks in the area lean toward full-hookup RV camping with a strong long-term-resident presence. Goose Bay offers 110 waterfront sites with 30-amp and 50-amp electrical service and water. Aqua Land Campground has around 110 sites on the Potomac near US 301, with pull-through options, full hookups, a beach, playground, and boat launch, so expect some highway noise near the bridge. Cell coverage is generally good across the region, and firewood is typically sold on site.
