Campgrounds near Brown Station, Maryland

Brown Station sits in Prince George's County, Maryland, just east of Washington, D.C. and inside the Capital Beltway corridor. RV travelers use the area as a base for visits to the National Mall, the Smithsonian museums, and the wider DC metro region, with several campgrounds within a 30-minute drive. The closest options span three tiers. Greenbelt Park Campground is a wooded National Park Service site about 10 miles from Washington, D.C., known for its affordability and peaceful surroundings. Cherry Hill Park and the Washington DC / Capitol KOA Holiday are full-service private resorts with hookups and shuttle access to the capital, and Adventure Bound Camping Resorts - Washington DC offers a family-oriented resort layout north of the city. For a quieter, more wooded stay, Cedarville State Forest - Family sits south of Brown Station in the Zekiah Swamp headwaters. The 3,510-acre forest offers camping, pavilions, and 19 miles of hiking trails, giving RV travelers a state-forest alternative to the busier metro campgrounds.

Things to do near Brown Station

Washington, D.C. is the primary draw. From Greenbelt Park Campground the Metro rail system provides access to the National Mall, with Greenbelt Station about 1.5 miles from the park. Goddard Space Flight Center is roughly 3 miles from the park and has a free visitor center. On the trail side, Greenbelt Park has about 9 miles of wooded trails, including the Perimeter, Azalea, Dogwood, and Blueberry Trails. Families staying at Cherry Hill Park, the Washington DC / Capitol KOA Holiday, or Adventure Bound Camping Resorts - Washington DC have on-site pools, playgrounds, and organized activities that pair well with day trips into DC, Annapolis, and the Chesapeake Bay.

Camping seasons in the Brown Station area split between year-round private and National Park Service sites and seasonal state forest sites. Greenbelt Park Campground is open year-round, and the private resorts nearby operate through the winter with reduced amenities. Cedarville State Forest's family campground is open from April through October, so shoulder-season and winter RV travelers should plan around the private and NPS options. Spring and fall are the most comfortable windows for touring DC, with mild temperatures and lighter humidity. Ticks are common in the Mid-Atlantic region in spring and summer, so campers should use repellent and check daily. Summer brings heat, humidity, and afternoon thunderstorms, and sites near the capital fill quickly around the cherry blossom peak, Memorial Day, July 4, and Labor Day weekends. At Cedarville, minimum-stay rules apply in peak months. From Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day there is a two-night minimum stay, and holiday weekends require a three-night minimum stay.

Overall good time. Gray and black water were 2/3 full though and would have been nice to be empty. WiFi was ok in location but sometimes didn’t work. Maybe suspension does need a look over not horrible but slightly loose. Fresh water all the way full would be nice also. I tried to leave it cleaner than I got it as well for the delay on drop off but made sure to get here early this am.

We had such a fantastic time in this RV. It was in ideal size for our family of 5. We travelled from Maryland, through ohio, Indiana, Kentucky and Tennessee. It was nice to drive and didn't feel too big. Clean throughout and no major issues. The host was very helpful and responded super quick to queries. We hope to rent again in the future.

Both VANessa and Vanessa were awesome. All the amenities are thoughtfully available. Van drove well and my son and I had a trip we’ll talk about for years and remember forever. Vanessa is a great communicator and great person. 5+ stars.

Had an amazing travel experience with VANessa and Vanessa was a joy to work with. So very accommodating. The van is beautiful and has everything you could want. Even my pup Seamus gave it two paws up!
